There is a complete demographic clash there. It's like Miley Cyrus opening for a Cradle of Filth concert. :P

I'm not sure it's that level of demographic clash. Stylistically, X fits in far better with other big VGX titles than any of Nintendo's more colorful properties - they've emphasized a young male protagonist, in a futuristic, semi-realistic looking world in which you have epic third-person, action-RPG-style fights against dinosaurs and robots and whatever else. If presented the right way, they could generate significant interest among VGX viewers.

If it seems like no one is talking about X right now, it's probably because Nintendo hasn't really told anybody anything about the game, outside of what can be extrapolated from two teasers. We know next to nothing about the characters, the story, the world, or even the game's official name - but that could be changed with an informative "true reveal" trailer.

Why do people think X is likely? X is very much a niche game, not the kind of thing to show off at VGX.

I don't think it's likely, but I think it would be the best for Nintendo if that's the game they did push. Showing Zelda? That's going to receive a ton of attention no matter when it's shown. Same goes for Smash or Retro's game. The current-gen RPG genre is empty year with the exception of The Witcher 3. Why not take advantage of that and push a new IP? People keep saying that it's a different demographic, but it's the same demographic that Geoff thought Persona 5 would appeal to since he tried to get that game for the show as well.

Lets be honest, it'll be a game or a clip or a piece of news no will care about.... except for the 4 or 5 super hardcore Nintendo fans who'll any Nintendo news as good news.

Setting my expectations at new DK trailer showing off 4th character. Wouldn't complain, super excited for DK, but I couldn't help but feel disappointed either way.

Whatever they show couldn't be worse than that... right?

Well, I'm not sure I can make any further arguments, so we'll just have to wait and see if it appears there or not. :)

What? Didn't know about this. What is the format of this show going to be like exactly?

While its roots lie in the Video Game Awards, VGX will abandon the traditional Hollywood style award show to feature more world premiere game trailers than ever before, plus extended deep dives into the next generation of games, new looks at gaming culture, one-on-one interviews with the industry’s most visionary creatives and expert panels digging into what’s coming to consoles in 2014 and beyond. The new format features more games, less fame, in an intimate studio setting.
.

I hope for Nintendo's sake they drop a Zelda U bomb and mention early 2014 with a nice trailer ready to go. They literally need to bring out games one after the other like PS4 will do when it hits early Spring.

Zelda in early 2014? hahahaha

We'd be lucky to get early 2015

I actually kinda like the sound of this. Hope it turns out for the best and we see some interesting stuff. Thanks for the info man.

Maybe a HD upgrade title, like F-Zero GX.

It's not unprecedented for a zelda game to come out in less than 4 years. Majora to wind waker was about 3 years. Wind waker to twilight princess was also about 3ish years. Heck, the reveal trailer for twilight princess came out a a little over a year after wind waker. If nintendo is allocating a ton of resources on a zelda team, we could very well get a reveal trailer this coming week and a release Nov 2014.

The amount of ambition theyre suggesting and nintendo's lack of HD dev skills might prove otherwise, but it's certainly feasible.

Kid Icarus Uprising HD
Luigi's Mansion Dark moon HD
Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 HD
Xenoblade HD
bayonetta WiiU
Metroid Prime 4
F-Zero GX HD
Earthbound HD
DuckHunt HD digital

Super Metroid sequel 3DS
Majora's Mask 3D
Earthbound 3D

BeLIEve!!!

if Sony ran Nintendo all of this would be so true… but Nintendo runs Nintendo aka Iwata

where are all these HD remakes coming from

I think Zelda U has to be THE game Nintendo can bring to finally wow people. With Nintendo's art direction and the modern GPU of the Wii U, the game could look totally stunning and "force" both Microsoft and Sony fans to buy the system as a secondary console, not to mention those who still haven't bought anything yet. People have been saying for a while, "show me the new Zelda, and I'll buy the Wii U" well it's time to do that.

Reggie's going to give a presentation called Why Wii U

Reminder that GOTY winner candidate Mario 3D World is available now!

Donkey Kong trailer revealing fourth playable character
It's Cranky Kong

Mario Kart 8 trailer showing some trippy ass levels, dated for March 2014

Smash Bros. trailer introducing Little Mac and Pac-Man, dated for April 2014

Zelda U trailer, targeted for holiday 2014

Announcement of Metroid and a new character IP, EAD-developed, Miyamoto produced. We'll see those at E3.

I just hope they realise they need to stop with playing hide & seek. They need to bring it, at least if this is viewed by a large audience. No Smash bros character reveal, no "fucking" Donkey Kong and no Wii Music crap. No keeping games under wraps like they've been doing the past 18 months. I'm still wondering how much damage that did. Why would casual "non-Nintendo" crowd be interested in WiiU when hardly any 3rd parties were announced further off than the coming 3 months.

I hope at least something like Bayo 1 port. Or more X footage or the new Zelda (not that i'm that interested in that, because we all know it's coming eventually, but for exposure). My heart still hopes for a new "all-out" game reveal from a studio like Retro, something with a twist, in a genre Wii U is lacking.

Nothing will "bring it" to a large audience quite like a Bayonetta port.

I think it will be Bayo 2, X, and a unannounced title. Maybe a HD upgrade title, like Super Mario Galaxy Super Badass HD Edition with both game compeltely remade in 3D World's Graphics Engine.

FIFY.

(...I, too, have a feeling it'll be X. Xenoblade caused enough of a commotion that I think X could be a huge Wii U exclusive)

But let's be real, people who only play Cod and Fifa don't give a shit about the VGX's. Treating it like they have to pander to that LCD is crazy considering the new reveals last year were Dark Souls II and a Trolljima trailer.

That being said, Smash is still their best option.

"Hi everyone, Reggie here. We're hijacking this show right now to bring you an extra special Nintendo Direct. Mr. Iwata, please take it away"

"Hello everyone. This is Iwata from Nintendo. Please take a look at what we've been working on."

*Shows DKC:TF, SSB, and SMT x FE.*

"You rike it? Here's one more!"

*Shows StarFox Wii U*

"Back to you Reggie."

"Are you guys now hyped for the Wii U? Well, if you're not, here's one more thing."

*Shows Ness in the next SSB then leads into Mother 4 trailer."

"I'll take your names now to body you guys in WiiFit U. Nintendo out!"

*Everyone in the audience is crying because their bodies weren't ready.*

I think the 'launch window' focus last year hurt them a lot, especially because they went on to delay 4~5 games out of that launch window period, and they lost Rayman Legends, too. I think they did focus on it though because they knew they didn't have so much for the next couple of quarters from 3rd parties, at least that's how it ended up (maybe stuff was cancelled from that time before it was even announced).

The January Direct did go some way to reassuring people there was some sort of mid-term software strategy in play for the console, but announcements of stuff just don't do that much for stuff when people weren't that interested anyway. Besides, only two of the five games they announced and showed in that presentation came out this year and they were Wii Party U and Wind Waker HD, leaving X, Yarn Yoshi, and SMT X FE with broad release windows next year. They've since announced a few more titles for the system, to the point that if all of them are out next year it'll be a solid software year, but it's still not grabbing people's attention on a scale that it needs to.

I'd love for them to do *something* amazing, like the 2011 3DS conference where we got Bravely Default, Fire Emblem, Mario Tennis and so on, but I imagine that (at this point) if Nintendo wanted to, or could, do that it'd already have happened. What frustrates me is that the Wii U is in far worse shape than the 3DS ever was at any point and they're still trickling stuff out. It gives the impression there's nothing to show, regardless of the reality.

Now, I concede they could be scared that with HD trouble they may have not wanted to risk announcing too much stuff too early in case they had to delay it (at least after a certain point), but I think the time is passed to be sitting on things like EAD's second project or their NFC game. I'm not just talking about VGX, but in general.
