Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

I really do hope that remains true, but I'm starting to have my doubts. I mean, we've barely seen much of anything about the game yet. Then again, it has all of next year to show us stuff if it comes out in the Fall or whatever.

We got two pretty impressive trailers so far. And let's not forget how Nintendo does things. They show a bit, then unload right before it comes out.
If what we've heard is right, they're already doing localization for the game along with development, so we could see a pretty good turn around.

Got a Wii U over Thanksigiving. Played 3D World like crazy with the brothers. Beat it, but not 100% yet.

I think it's right up there with Galaxy/64. It started a bit slow IMO, but from about World 4 onwards I think it has the best level design of any Mario game ever. I do like exploring and stuff, but the level design trumped all of that for me.

Side note. We also downloaded the demo for W101. It completely threw me for a loop (in a good way.)
From reviews and thoughts about the game, I was expecting some difficult or obtuse controls.

The controls were simple. I really cannot comprehend how anyone would have trouble with the controls. If drawing on the gamepad was annoying, just use the right analog stick (that's what we did). Then the zR and zL (or whatever they're called) were used for the shield thing and dodging. It felt easy. I was mystified at how people could have extreme trouble with it, to be honest. Me and my brother did the 2 player mission and in the waiting area, we literally messed around for 2 minutes or less and figured most everything out. (The gamepad showed which shapes did what). Unless the game gets insanely complicated later on, I don't really see it. The non-major enemies were kind of small though and hard to see sometimes.

Anyhoo, bring on Mario Kart.

That two player mission mode is also how I got used to the controls. It is a bit much when you are thrown straight into combat but having that area with no enemies to practice the shapes is a huge help.

You should consider buying The Wonderful 101, it's still the best game for the system(3D World is right up there though).

It's truly a game in which the reviewers actually WERE wrong(a lot of time it's sour grapes when people bitch about reviews).

Yeah, we most likely will. Breaks over so no one's at home again, so we'll probably get something new during the next break, Christmas.

So where is this Nintendoland bundle? Trying to spend my money!

FallingEdge + Wii U?
bzug7ne.gif

So how often have good deals been popping up?

I want to get in for around $250, I've seen it happen a few times online. Am I probably going to have to just wait for a price drop?

Or maybe get Nintendoland for that cheap, and the WiiPartyU bundle for that extra game.

On another note, EU Club Nintendo only has Wii/DS points cards for rewards, not WiiU/3DS. Wtf?

Can somebody point me to a place to buy a Gamepad expanded battery (the larger battery than lasts longer). I can't seem to find a place that sells it, and all the Ebay listings look look a bit shady (situated in China, could be cheap knock-offs).

The wait for a half decent deal for a Wii U in Australia is insufferable.

You're a few months late, I got mine for $160 in Aus at a clearance sale. The same price as an old refurbished 3DS.

play-asia.com sells them.

So been playing the Wii-U past few days, mostly Super Mario 3D world. Really enjoying it, a very solid, feel good game that puts a damn big smile on my face. Hoping the system can continue to generate that type of reaction, I'm just afraid once I get through these few gems I'll end up waiting a long time for something new. Also I just realized this is the first Nintendo console since the Wii-U that I've owned.

Thanks, just ordered one.

Welcome. It really makes a difference. I keep my gamepad in the charging cradle when I'm not playing and after I bought the battery I never hit the red light again.

We know for sure that DKC Tropical Freeze is coming in February and Mario Kart 8 in spring and both seem to be solid games. Nintendo should announce soon (VGX maybe?) the schedule for the first half of the 2014.
I'm fine because I didn't go too far in W101 as I'm still playing a lot of Pikmin 3 (the missions and now the 3rd DLC hit) and I started also Mario 3d World.

I foresee the same issue for me. Once I'm done with Mario, Pikmin, and Zelda it's just going to be one drought after another waiting for Nintendo's titles. But I knew that when I bought it, so I don't mind. I have a PS4 and 360 for everything else.

Unfortunately I'm not a fan of either series :(. I'll probably pick up Kart just to have something for get togethers with friends.

That's not good for you. Did you play W101, Pikmin 3, LCU, ZombiU, MHU3?

Plan to pick up W101. Pikmin a maybe (never played the series). ZombiU a maybe... tried the demo... I appreciate what it's doing... but not sure if I want the full thing. Monster hunter for sure.

If you pick W101, MH3U and Pikmin 3 it should keep you busy for quite a while. All three have a great replayability.

Oh god, so appropirate for a lot of reclutant gaffers and the wiu :D

I really like this thread, such a change of mood compared to the war zone out there.

Zombi U is cheap out there. don't miss it. it's great, even goty 12 for someone (like me)

A great chance to jump in. I replayed Pikmin 2 after finishing Pikmin 3 and the improvements were huge, and not just graphically. Also, give New Super Luigi U a try. While I wasn't a big fan of NSMBU I loved that game.

You can get ZombiU for very cheap so I would really recommend it to you if you were a fan of those old horror games back in the PS1/PS2/GC days.

Yes. The improvements are very apparent. Pikmin 3 gameplay and level design are much more fitting of a strategy game than the GCN games. This really shows in the mission modes, trying to go for platinum medals.

so since we just had thanksgiving. how is the reaction of wiiu with your families?

(It wasn't Thanksgiving for me since I don't live in the US.)
Took my Wii U with me this weekend so that I can show it to my younger brother.
We played some Zelda, some Mario 3D World and some Tekken. He was enjoying the gameplay but said the graphics are not all that great. We played on a shitty TV though so that could have hampered his experience. :/

I don't understand the title. Sarcasm?

Finally got one used, last week. Been playing 3D Worlds. Charming game, but I'm not that eager to finish. Just not challenging enough. Not really interested in anything else on the system outside the new Smash, currently. Might have wasted my money but I was dying to try the 3D Worlds.

Ah well.

I figure I'll ask this here since I guess it's basically the general Wii U thread:

I realized the other day that the little blue light around may gamepad's home button has never once lit up for any reason. Is this normal? Not during bootup, not when an update is available, not when the Wii Fit Info thing automatically downloaded, never. Does Nintendo just not use that light for anything or is something wrong with my controller?

Have you played 3D Land? Let's just say that if you're looking for a challenge you should keep playing a little longer.

no matter who you are, you should check out W101 and Pikmin 3, if you want an online game then MH3U.

Have you had a look at the Wii U Games thread? There are some really good recommendations if you're up for trying something a bit different.

check the gamepad setup, there is an option to activate it

What's 3D Land?

@Magus

Definitely will try W101 at some point.

Never liked the Pikmin series, so I don't mind missing Pikmin 3's alleged greatness. Have no interest in MH.

@ Valim: Thanks for the link.

Forgot to mention it in the first post, but I have it enabled in there. It was on by default I think and I've never changed it since. Just checked it again and it's still set to "on." I also noticed it specifically says it'll use the light for notifications, which I'm assuming means the little ads or notices that occasionally pop up in the home menu's notification screen, which I've gotten several of and have never had the LED turn on for. Weird.

A couple days ago someone in here (I believe) suggested trying out Xenoblade on the gamepad. I just did. WOW, it looks gorgeous on the gamepad screen!

If I wasn't holding out for a potential HD re-release, I would (and am) seriously tempted to replay the game. I just went to Eryth Sea and enjoyed the vistas, and the music. My God the music is still so good.

Actually, it looked so good, I was going to post a picture on Miiverse only to realise again that I don't have that option with Wii games...

What's 3D Land?

Super Mario 3D Land is one of 3DS's best games and EAD Tokyo's (3D World dev) previous game. Famous for robust post-game content that challenges you in ways you couldn't imagine when playing the first eight worlds. 3D World follows a similiar structure.

Still relatively new to the wii u so I have a couple of questions that I'm not completely positive about

So I see that the Wi Ui Virtual Console game selection pretty much sucks. If I also have a wii, I can buy games from the wii virtual console and transfer them over to the wii u, right? For example A Link to the Past isn't available in the wii u shop, but I can just buy it with my wii and transfer it over to the wii u with an sd card, yeah?

Also if I can do that, does that mean that the wii u pro controller can be used for the SNES and N64 games?

While I think you can only do the Wii transfer once (EDIT: apparently not), there's nothing stopping you from buying VC games from the Wii VC channel while in Wii mode on the U. Other, wiser heads will have to advise on controllers!
