The Red Star (PSP) isn't exactly a shmup, but it has sections that are reminiscent of one.
Other PSP titles like Gradius Collection might work for you as well.

Unfortunately SCEA/IREM dropped the ball and none of the R-Type games work.

Also recommend Neo Geo Ultimate Shooting, Cho Aniki Zero, Cho Aniki, Zanac x Zanac, Shienryu, Mobile Light Force and Capcom Classics Collection Reload.

Would you guys buy the Vita TV if it released here? Not sure if I would since I already own a Vita and all. Playing P4G on a big screen is tempting though

I won't, but I know a few people that don't want a Vita but want the Vita TV to be a small PSX/PSP player.

Absolutely. Would hook it up to a TV in our second living area (to be) and have the PS4 available in both rooms if necessary.

Nah. That's NIER
Nier is the most memorable Japanese developed game I think I've played this last generation. Far from perfect as far as gameplay goes, but a genuinely moving story and amazing soundtrack.

Didn't say it was bad just that I thought it was over rated. Got ending A and B.

Nah. That's NIER

i want to get into it but its neither here nor there in a vita thread...

That Terraria price is so tempting for ps3 - makes me want to just forego the vita version... atleast this gives me hope that the vita version will go that low if I hold out long enough.

BTW, if anyone is planning to buy Sen no Kiseki from the PS Store, now is the good time to buy it.

Vita version is only 4200 yen (2000 yen discount). This only lasts until Dec 5 19:30 (Japan Time).

I am cursing that PS+ auto-charge bug coz I am short of 400 yen to buy this. GRRRRRRRRRR...
Since it actually hit over 100k sales I'm waiting for a the best version later on that hopefully has the patches on-cart. Can't touch it yet anyways since I'm waiting for a patched best version of zero evo to play first. Just going to say fuck it and get everything though if a patched zero evo doesn't come out before ao evo releases.

You can easily hook up a capture card to it since it has hdmi output. That alone is worth the $100 for me, having another system essentially is just a bonus.

Probably not, I don't really have use for the streaming/remote play capabilities since I only have 1 TV anyway, and I don't mind playing on the small screen. It could be useful for longer multiplayer sessions though

most overrated game in the past generation

I don't like using overrated and underrated, it's basically saying that the majority's opinion is wrong just because it differ from your own

Yes 1000 times over. Had a blast with my Vita since the system launched. Vita TV would be icing on the cake.

I've been browsing the store and found some Atlus games that seem to be on sale (i'm guessing about what's on sale based on typical PSP prices)

Class of Heroes $7.49
Crimson Gem Saga $7.49
Growlanser $9.99
Gungnir $9.99
Hexyz Force $7.49
Knights in the Nightmare $7.49
Persona $9.99
Persona 2:EP $9.99
Persona 3 Portable $9.99

I already have P3P but otherwise I have nothing on this list. What else is worth looking at?

This makes me weep (AU store)

No way, Vita TV is going to tank for sure. What is the point. So few people will get it. It's a vita, without the portability...so for a few compatible exclusives...at some weird res...why not just get a second hand ps3!

Vita v3 with OLED + better battery + unlocked cpu + tv out (+pairing with controller)

Buy it. It is a wonderful game.

The game is supposed to be difficult and unforgiving. It is not cheap though. The randomness has only gotten me cheap deaths a handful of times. They suck when they happen, but they are so rare that they don't become a problem for me.

I've dealt with a lot of randomness with the game, not always cheap but sometimes it is the case. The game expects you to die and learn from your mistakes, it's more of a trial and error game I guess. But even when you do eventually get used to it, you still get put in tricky situations that catch you off guard. One minute you think you're doing great, the next second you die easily and lose all that progress you've made.

After playing the mines section so many times, I finally made some good progress with the jungle levels and actually made it to the first ice level. The game's balance can also be off for its random levels (even though it's also a good thing), not sure if the jungle levels were pure luck or that they were less challenging.

I'm mixed about the game so far. It really seems like it's something unique, a game that isn't comparable to many games out there, it has an intriguing side to it, brilliant ideas with the way the game is designed, good controls and just wanting to play more of it.

But I'd have really liked it if it was a bit less stressful. I like challenging games (not cheap though), but I hate redoing sections over and over because the game doesn't give you a way to save your progress properly, this artificial length being extended with the way the game is designed instead of challenge. For instance, you have this character that creates shortcuts for you. Wonderful! But why do you have to donate him stuff, and why do you have to play the mine levels at least 3 times along with donating until a shortcut is complete? Why can't there be a shortcut the moment you finish a section?

I hope I'll get used to the game and enjoy it more, but I'm not looking forward to dying a lot.

There's a ton of tips... EsotericManiac had put together a guide on some of the more advanced stuff with pictures.

I guess it depends on how you play and your play style, but if you learn how to overcome whatever is currently killing you most of the time, you will do better. I was rusty when I first started playing again regularly, now I make it to the temple (or at least the ice caves) most of the time.

Yes, I learned to overcome certain obstacles, it's getting better but it's not enough.

Sometimes you have a lot of water in the jungle levels, there is a huge fish there along with tons of smaller fishes. How the hell do you deal with them?

I love all those things about the game!

Much prefer infinite re-playability over a set design with checkpoints! The challenge and randomness is what makes each adventure great, even if only short. Watch some pros play for inspiration!

Having the shortcuts is already basically cheating :P I love it all!

I'm doing exactly how you are in terms of progress so far btw, just making it to the ice place once or twice. PM me if you plan on sticking around and doing the daily challenges, so far just novacaine has done today's apparently...and I rocked his score :P (still planning on getting that ssd score up too btw).

I guess if you really wanted to stream your PS4 to another TV it would make sense at the moment...

The PS3 is loud, uses 80 times more power, costs twice as much and doesn't have Remote Play.

Those are bad but it gives you access to shitloads more games, much cheaper games, media capabilities. A lot of the games are better than what you could experience with a Vita TV as well, considering the power limitations... I mean yeah it doesn't have remote play (or the new selection of games if they interest you) so fair enough if you really want that for use with another TV(s)... Still though...I'd hope the idea of having real portability with remote play on a normal vita would be more attractive for the majority of gamers - I'm hoping.

Feels like so few will buy it which will hopefully encourage Sony to make an even better Vita rather than spreading the features out. Although I may be underestimating how many people have second tvs and hate gaming on handhelds, or have enough for both...but not another ps4 etc.

The selling point of Vita TV imo is Remote Play + cheap access to the Vita PS+ catalog.

Why not get remote play on something that the resolution is meant for and will give you much more flexibility... Old people I bet. Get some glasses, handhelds are awesome. Or is it that cheap?

Although, if people only have like a single TV but a cool monitor in their room with HDTV inputs or whatever the Vita TV outputs, that would be pretty tempting I can imagine. Might not be so bad at close-range but a PS4 image streamed to Vita TV is cut down to vita res right?

Sony ought to release an official grip for the Vita to make it look more comfortable I reckon, or at least advertise it with a grip sometimes.

agreed - the vitaTV appeal is streaming ps4 to another tv in the house...

if I didn't have a vita I wouldn't be getting a vitaTV to play vita games on my television...the vita aspect is much more of a tertiary feature to me.

The basic pack would sell for $99 if Japanese prices are to be considered. Then you have special sales a few times a year and I can easily see Vita TV going lower than that. So pretty cheap if you ask me.

And we also have to consider that some western gamers are completely averse to handhelds.

Yeah good points been raised, seems like it will stick around and we probably won't be getting a (non-modded) Vita with tvout, not that I personally am too bothered but options are always nice. This may do more to help vita overall though.

Okay focus on that battery for revision 3 then Sony and better have OLED option too.

Most likely not. Call me nuts, but I'd much rather play games on a portable than on a TV, and there are incompatible games to boot. Don't have any real use for the remote play either, and I bet this will still be true even after I buy a PS4, heh.

Still, I can see myself impulse buying one on sale or something. It's very inexpensive.

haha wow, i swear that i read on a bunch of websites like joystiq or polygon that it was coming out the 3rd?

There was a UK poster that showed a release date of the 4th. 505 later posted on their own message boards that they expect that to be a worldwide date. Nobody really knows if the game even exists at this point though.

God of War collection now avail. for pre order.

The God of War Collection for PlayStation Vita is now available to pre-order through GameStop. The pack includes remastered versions of Sony's first PS3 two games in the series with full trophy support. The listing does not indicate when the bundle will arrive, but it is priced at $39.99.

Sony previously launched the God of War Collection on PS3 in November 2009 before packing the original games in with God of War 3, God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War: Ghost of Sparta in the God of War Saga bundle for PS3 in August 2012. Those that own the former collection can already play the games on Vita thanks to a September 2012 update, which opened up remote play for the collection on the system.

Yes, if you have the skills. I think Divine takes forever but definitely makes it possible.
You can also bring AI with you (just 1 if needed, if you went chaso, so you have someone to pick you up if you get hit too much).
Glad I opted for chaos route then. Both Magusar and Carnatux will be the perfect bait for the bosses I guess. Though I will more than happy to play with VitaGaf here :(
It seems Laughing Banana still busy with Dark Arisen so I have stuck with the old man and the fat conman for a while.
Dammit Atlus, why do you hate us europeans so much??
You guys have Digital Devil Saga on the stores if I'm remembered it correctly.
Would you guys buy the Vita TV if it released here? Not sure if I would since I already own a Vita and all. Playing P4G on a big screen is tempting though
I'll probably bite if a western version if it got released since my account that contained all of the game is US account. Just for the sake of collecting though.

I just bought Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale ($20) and Sly Cooper 4 ($12) for PS3 and Vita (cross-buy) on Amazon yesterday.

Anyone think I got a good deal?

That's how I felt. It was so much fun, but I just don't see any reason to ever go back to it now.

I'm still going for Plat, but to me it feels like one of those classics that I'll revist a few years down the line; seeing the characters, hearing the music in context again and reliving the memories. Like with Grim Fandango or Psychonauts, there's just a way the whole world comes together that's so appealing.

most overrated game in the past generation

Wow.

There's wrong and then there's wrong.

I literally didn't touch anything else for a week, I couldn't put it down it was so intense. Really glad they bundled it even if it's not a perfect port, it's maybe the best experience I've had with the system so far.

Would you guys buy the Vita TV if it released here? Not sure if I would since I already own a Vita and all. Playing P4G on a big screen is tempting though

If it had all the correct streaming apps, yes. I would buy it instead of a Roku box. But since it's not even announced, I think a Roku box is in my future instead.

But why do you have to donate him stuff, and why do you have to play the mine levels at least 3 times along with donating until a shortcut is complete? Why can't there be a shortcut the moment you finish a section?

Sometimes you have a lot of water in the jungle levels, there is a huge fish there along with tons of smaller fishes. How the hell do you deal with them?

(1) It's a goal to strive for. As a heads up, the 3rd item to unlock the ice caves shortcut is the shotgun. The third item to unlock the temple shortcut is the key you find in 1-2, 1-3, or 1-4. Plus it teaches you to deal with the basic gameplay elements through repetition. There is no point in just starting in those later levels unless you want to practice on them... the main point of the game is speed/score runs (look at the daily challenge; hooray, I'm #13 today. I'm sure that will fall...). If you don't start at the beginning you miss all chances to get items in shops and to do some of the more fantastic stuff like the black market and using the Ankh.

(2) If there's a part with a huge fish? You don't deal with that, it should only be at the bottom of the level. If you really wanted to kill them all, I suppose you could jump in the water with a shotgun and go commando... but I don't think there's a reason to. The exit to the level should be on one of the pieces of land floating on the water.

The PS3 is loud, uses 80 times more power, costs twice as much and doesn't have Remote Play.

You should already have a PS3 -- the point for the VitaTV is (1) streaming and (2) playing on a bigger screen. The appeal to non Vita owners is that they can either do (1) to stream their PS4 elsewhere in the house or (2) they can buy a $100 piece of hardware and play with a real controller to enjoy exclusive games not available on PS3.

(I'm agreeing with you. :P)

Where is Terreria???!?

I've answered this about 80123 times today.
It's probably held up by SCEAs stupid certification process.

and will it be cross-buy 'cause the PS3 one is on sale this week

I've also answered this about 80123 times today.
EU BLOG HAS CONFIRMED THAT TERRARIA IS NOT CROSS BUY.

haha wow, i swear that i read on a bunch of websites like joystiq or polygon that it was coming out the 3rd?

Yeah, that's what we all thought because EU is tomorrow.
SCEA certification strikes again, methinks.

I think they've said they will release it here, though what kind of a push it will get is anybody's guess.

My primary problem with it is how many games aren't compatible. But, I can see myself getting one to have the option to use the big screen for those that are, particularly if I can use my kickass Dual Shock 4.

Unfortunately not. DDS 1 and 2 were announced to get a PSN Release in Europe but those plans were abandoned because of problems with the PS2 Emulator.

On another note:
Has anybody who lives in Japan ever ordered from amazon.com and can tell me whether I'll have to pay import taxes when importing games from the US? Thinking about importing P4G...

Fuck for I was wrong then D:
When will I have the chance to legitemately play Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga and other PS2 era Atlus goodness ;__;

Top of the page, I guess every VitaGaf should buy and play:
