Yeah, this sounds like they are doing the best considering the situation.
0933: A spokeswoman for First ScotRail said passengers on trains were being brought into the nearest stations and taxis were being arranged for them and in some cases, nearby hotels.
"This is a controlled shutdown of the rail network," she said. "We are getting customers off trains and getting them taxis to where they need to be.
"But we are letting them stay on the trains to make calls if they need to. We are not just chucking them straight off.
"We are trying to do everything we can to support customers."

Note, this isn't the Lorry reported on the news, but one overturned in Gateshead. Posted by my friend on facebook:

Lucky not to go over the bridge

I'm on the top of a 6 story building in Newcastle in what looks and feels like a floor that was tacked on as an afterthought.

The windows were very visibly moving earlier, it's all calmed down a bit now but fucking hell.

My sons trampoline made a bid for freedom this morning I went to recover it in my dressing gown and had a Marilyn Monroe moment cock flapping like a windsock!

Round 2 - FIGHT!

Netherlands here, shit is going down. It's not is brutal as last month yet, but I'm kind of nervous.

The tidal storm surge tonight/tomorrow will be the biggest threat for the east coast on England and part of Europe. Most serious in over 60 years. Flood protection walls/dykes will be tested.

Its battering down here (just outside glasgow), its calmed down a bit since earlier this morning though.

I'm near Glasgow as well. I was on the school run this morning walking my two young boys up the road and we had to return back home it was that bad. The kids were petrified.

Now it's clear blue skies.

This is the biggest threat to life right here. The highest tides of the year in combination with a North Sea storm surge. Tonight could be quite the night on the East Coast of England.

I'm betting the Thames Barrier goes up tonight. Along with many people being evacuated from their homes on the East Coast.

What? Massive surge? Ah shit. Any specified areas?

In Manchester and the wind is howling around outside. I want some crisps but I might get cold so going to have some beans on toast and wait it out a while.

I live close to the Thames too. :/

Isn't this supposed to be worse than the previous storm?

Alleged high tide floods at scheduled for around 10pm. Prepare incase.

DailyMail source but not allowed to post apparently.

Environment Agency are expecting the worst tidal storm surge in over 60 years and some places could even have a surge higher than the 1953 flood. Flood protection and warnings has been improved since then so it shouldn't be as bad though.

The website won't load for me anymore but I'm sure if you need to be evacauted you'll find out.

Thanks. I live close to the Thames, so I'll definitely keep a close eye out on developing events.

Worst part is I'm currently in Milton Keynes and need to get home before the worst hits. Have to drive back too.

We've got a bit of damage in the garden and it is very windy outside. But, as always, it's getting a massive over-reaction by the media who just want to spread fear and anxiety

I wish Neogaf had a Like because this would definitely get one. This is the most Manchester response I've ever read on this forum. I love it.

Hrrrmm, should we make a new pan-European thread?

I'm in Hamburg and supposed to work in 90 minutes. The media hype is getting to me.

BBC reporting that 9000 properties in Great Yarmouth are being evacuated before the storm surge hits. Doesn't sound too promising :/

HEADS UP:

New storm "Emily' with 100mph winds is set to batter the country on Thursday, effectively making it more powerful than the previous two.

A bit of tabloid silliness there. It possible there will be some stormy weather for Scotland on Thursday, but it doesn't have a name and its not possible to know how strong it will be, if it does happen.
