So I just got a good as new second hand Vita was a 16GB card. It was supposed to come with killzone but the dude that sold it already used the code on his account so I basically got screwed. So now I have a Vita with no games (except for cross buy Flower)... But hey, at least I have an OLED Vita.

I'm now kind of wonder which game to buy. The digital games on the European store are kind of expensieve.

I'd recommend to start with getting a PSPlus subscription (Uncharted, Gravity Rush, Guacamelee, Sonic Racing). It's invaluable IMO.
Other than that there are no great sales on PSN right now so I'd wait unless you absolutely need a new release right now.

if you have 2 vitas you can link both to the same account and download all the games on your account to the second vita
Could you elaborate?

Yeah, I'm still wondering whether to jump in on plus. I'm not particularly fond of the renting it until your subscription runs out part.

any game you've purchased on PSN, if you connect your second vita to your main account, you also gain access to that content on vita #2

i did this with my son's vita

You download a game now on Plus for free. You play it and beat it. If in a year you don't care enough to renew Plus to play it again, did you really care that much about that game?

Game I want to own I buy; games I only want to play I wait for Plus.

Could you elaborate?

For me it required a shift of how I think about "owning" games, but honestly I can play a much wider variety of games and pay a lot less for it. I see no reason not to resubscribe to Plus at the moment and I rarely replay games anyway, so it's a win-win situation for me.

I don't think this helps me at in in this situation. I don't know the dude and I want to use my own PSN account. Apparently there is a one account per memory card lock on the Vita ( which is ridiculous).

Check your PMs. I sent you a 30 day trial code, because I said earlier in the thread that I will give them to EU vitabros, but unfortunately, both codes are about to expire by the end of this month.

If anyone else want the other code, hit me up with a message .

I know that Dynasty Warriors: Next has gimmicky touch crap for the special moves, but how annoying is it? I really want a mindless hack-n-slash on PS Vita, and Namco Bandai failed me by not bringing over One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 (and even if they did it'd probably have been digital only :| )

So I guess I'll just get that if people think it's worth it. Or are there any upcoming ones that might be localized? Isn't there another Dynasty Warriors (or one of the games like it) on PS3/PS4/Vita coming out in Japan? Think that'll come over? Tecmo Koei has been pretty good with Vita so far.

The touch screen stuff doesn't happen too often, but when it does I found it very annoying because it really interrupted the usual flow of gameplay. That said I still found I lot to like about it.

In all honesty, I'm not holding my breath that Dynasty Warriors 8XL/Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate on Vita will be localized, but I'd certainly like to be wrong.

The guy behind that company / game is a known liar and con-man living off a game that was big nearly 20 years ago. Don't expect much.

Yeah, I wish I'd known it was a risk... just seemed like it would be a neat little oddity to have as a physical Vita game. If amazon.co.uk updates to show it's coming on January 24th, I might order again... but eh, it's pretty dodgy now. Like, I'd want to wait til the last minute to order, but then watch it get so few orders that the Vita print is cancelled outright.

there may not be a dW8XL port... but i'm sure we'll see another DW on vita.

corrosivefrost, I just wrote a huge reply about Spelunky to you that is gone, finito, dead, deleted by accident :(

Meh, let's mention this quickly then.

I don't play games I don't enjoy. Spelunky has one negative aspect, but I love all its other bits. I just think its challenge is unfair. I appreciate when your time is respected in games. I don't have problem when some games don't let you save (like shmup shooters), but not when a game is actively trying to get you killed. It's silly how you can die in so many different ways, also when things are out of your hand. Like for instance, when the orange frog dies near a shop by accident and the owner blames you for it. I literally started a level once, hearing the owner going crazy from far away (without my doing). Or when the enemies die, their blood can splatter near dangerous bombs and then you're dead. Or when you can also kill yourself with your own weapons, even when throwing rocks they can hurt you etc. It's too much that you can die from literally anything when you can't save. Not saying that you can't deal with it and eventually get used to it, but it's unnecessary to artificially extend a game's length that way.

About playing the same levels, yes they're random generated. This is the reason why I can tolerate playing through them over and over again, it's fresh enough to do that. But it's not the same as having new theme levels with new enemies and items.

That said *gasp* I still like the game a lot! There's something irresistible about it. So don't let my negative focus give you a different impression. Otherwise I wouldn't be playing the game.

And the shotgun? I was having bad luck getting it for a long time. The shops didn't have it and the graves didn't show up anymore after my last reply. That is untill the last playthrough, I finally have my shortcut! Getting the first 2 donations for the temple was a breeze. The last one remains *gulp*

I've made it to the temple a few times now, and I got to so see more of it. I realize it would be difficult to try and go through it with a shortcut, but it's handy for practice.

Oh and as for Gravity Rush DLC, it's been a long time since the game was released. I feel kinda over that game and don't remember story details as much now. But it was great and the DLC pre-order was good. I'm sure it will all return once playing through those DLC's. I think I might get the other 2. Thanks!

Welcome back, resident spelunker.

There have been cries for help which only you are qualified to answer.

He's too late...

Yeah, I'm still wondering whether to jump in on plus. I'm not particularly fond of the renting it until your subscription runs out part.

I've never liked this notion.

1) Having a game for the length of time you get it through PS+ is more than what we typically think of as a 'rental,' it's more like a long term lease. You get more than enough time to get everything you need out of it.

2) Your subscription is not going to run out. Sony's made sure of that with PS4. Going forward if you have their stuff, you're going to have PS+.

3) If you download games it pays for itself in discounts anyway. (And with Vita, digital makes a lots of sense).

4) It will always be worth it. You will be drowning in more good games than you can play, at a fraction of what they would cost to buy even used and heavily discounted.

5) What % of games do people really come back to years after initially playing them? It's a very small #, I'd wager. And the ones you do go back to are all-time favourites or total classics, in which case it's worth your while to just pay for them regardless. They'll be cheap by then anyway.

Sorry Danielsan, didn't mean to pounce on you, the "they're rentals!" thing has just always seemed like on unsound reservation about the service, and not reflective of the actual experience with it. It's worth 10x what you pay in terms of gameplay for dollar, particularly if you have all 3 Sony systems. Especially because it gives you a lot of hidden gems or things you may have passed on despite hearing they were good, which you end up loving.

I just bought two PS+ cards on Black Friday for $60. That's two years of rentals and I've already had the service for a year.

I'm OK with this.

I don't know how many Vita games I'll actually buy because I like the PS+ offerings and there's enough to keep me busy for a long while.

So I'm starting to appreciate the Vita quite a bit more now that I've sunk my teeth into Soundshapes.

I saw a recommendation for ultimate ghosts n goblins. Definitely can't wait to pick that up, I'm really into volgarr the viking right now. Spelunky so far is a misfire. It was an impulse purchase for me. Theres no reason to own it on vita when I have the steam version. Disappointing. Something about it just seems off.

I had some very negative impressions from the tearaway demo that I am reticent to post without a bit more experience with the game. The game is beautiful though, I really hope they do a PS4 version with photorealistic paper, etc.

I disagree with this.

Spelunky is a close to perfect port (the only "off" part I can find is that there's occasionally some slowdown in very specific instances) and you can take it with you and play it anywhere.

More:
To me, Soundshapes was a disappointment. I loved Everyday Shooter, but playing Soundshapes ... I don't know, I expected more from it... it just didn't capture the magic of Everyday Shooter for me.
I don't know about the Tearaway demo, but that game is straight up magic in game form. I baged on it for the design of Iota/Atoi but other than that standing aesthetic complaint, there were only a few minor nits, like not being able to change the camera controls.

Finally ordered my 64GB card. Wonder how long it'll be till I'm craving a 128GB card.

Non related question, but is Escape Plan PS4 cross-save? I know Sound Shapes is, but flOw and Flower aren't.

Hey man, no problem. And you're probably right. I might just go for a year of plus to see where it takes me. I do have a question though. I will probably buy a PS4 next year. Is there any way for me to "purchase" the free PS4 PSN+ games without actually owning a PS4. If I can get Resogun for free next year that would already make it a better investment.

Also any European deals on plus at the moment?

You might be able to purchase them from the vita store, but if not, you can always purchase them from the website.

this was my issue/plan... i was going to let ps+ hold me over for a the first few years, and once i end the service with vita ( if ever) i'll just buy the games (hopefully cheaper by then), that ireally enjoyed on plus.

I should have been more clear. I didn't mean to comment on the port quality. Its spelunky. I just meant to comment on it's utility in my life. Last night I was in bed and wanted to play spelunky and was like "i should play the vita version" but it turned the vita version was on my desk right next to my pc. I'm gonna start charging the vita next to my bed.

I've only played about a half hour of soundshapes but so far its very appealing to me. I'll update once I play for a good session. I wasn't even using headphones.

As far as tearaway is concerned... The presentation worked on me, the second it shows "you" in the sun I was legitimately grinnning a big stupid looking stoner grin and instantly regretting not having been coincidentally wearing sunglasses. And its beautiful, and clever and the conceit is kind of hilarious so far, theyre just puttin on a play inside your vita? its like those old dreamcast commercials. I would LOOOOOVE to see a sony playstation allstars self aware advernture-like game that breaks the fourth wall like tearaway based on those old dreamcast commercials.

BUT.

so far the game isn't fun. i gained no joy out of trying to manipulate a paper cylindar with the rear touch screen and control my character with the joystick at the same time. especially while laying in bed. i literally exclaimed "no way!!" when i realized what I had to do, and then i tried it three times in a row and failed each time and then put the thing in standbye mode.

You might like the campaign of Soundshapes, but when you hit the death mode levels? Straight up bullshit. It's like Spelunky in that it's randomized, but there are levels which will give you note spawn locations that make it so it's IMPOSSIBLE to finish in time.

Which drums? The ones for bounce using the rear touchpad? you should just be able to tap your fingers on the back of the touchpad (anywhere) and have it work.

No, it was the tear your finger through the paper thing and move this cylindar while you balance your character on top of it with the joystick. Clever, but ergonomically and tactically it felt like a nightmare. I'll try later, I wasn't in a great mood last night. The game has super mario 3dland levels of production value though... it just wasn't fun for the bit I played. IDK. I'll get back after I play more.

Soundshapes was all about music, nothing about gameplay. And death mode completely killed the love I had for that game two years ago.

Oh, I know the spot you mean. I didn't think it was that bad, personally but I could see how it could piss someone off. Most of the game isn't like that.

The last patch for Spelunky supposedly fixed any slowdown issues, but I haven't played it in awhile to know.

I still have the same opinion on Death Mode in Sound Shapes. Only took me a day of casual play to start and ace them all. You just have to know that there's every possibility a note will spawn in the complete opposite of where you are, among the fixed spawn locations, be reflexively ready for either direction and decision (but not having already leaned ever so slightly to what might have been the wrong decision), and have overcompensated for their occurrences by shaving time with every other move. The only time you're better off re-rolling is when the first note spawn is far away, otherwise there's almost nothing that can't be outpaced by perfect performance. Failing and rapidly restarting until you nail it is just part of the game. If you're into it, it'll be fun, if you're not it'll be frustrating.

Anything good coming out this week on PSN? I might switch over to my Japanese account for delta.

Hi there VitaSquirrels!(an intention of pun from Tearaway!?)

I have a few questions:

Tearaway is really a game i should and would buy in the near future , but is this game longer is terms of gameplay than LittleBigPlanet Vita? How about the replay value?

Another question and it is an important one , im about to change from a 16g memory card to a 32g memory but the NA 32 g memory card is more expensive (at the place im gonna buy it) than one they sell that is the Asian Memory card of 32g
Is there any problem if i have USA account and Vita but use a 32 g memory card from the Asian region?

My main complaint about the vita is how the slightest touch of a finger on the screen leaves a nasty grease fingerprint behind that is completely noticeable when the OLED shines through it.

On games that require you to touch the screen, it becomes a complete mess after doing three touches in different parts of the screen.

I by no means have overly greasy fingers. Touching my iphone for hours leaves no residue. But the Vita screen is awful in this respect.

Is there some kind of treatment or solution to this?
They actually fixed this problem with the 2000, makes you wonder what kind of plastic they used at first. Nothing touch screened I own leaves streaks like the Vita did.

Tearaway probably won't take you more than 10 hours to platinum. But every second of it is great. There is a little replay value from making costumes for you character, bu that's about it.

The replay value for Tearaway is not very high -- you can go back and create stuff in the editor, but there's no levels other than what's on the cart and once you 100% everything, you're done. I got my platinum over the course of 2-3 days and sold it already.

As for memory, there's no problems. I mean, have you noticed the number of VitaGAF posters that talk about 64gb cards -- they're only out in Japan. So if myself and others have imported and are using them, you should have 0 problems (so long as it's a 100% legit memory card).

I fricking love ya guys , thanks for all the responses, Im going then to buy the 32g mc asian version, and i will stick with my 16 g cards so i can put in there all of my psp and psx games.Im upgrading to 64g once the 100 limit is gone, i know for a fact that it will take a while to go away.

What do you think about Mighty no9 in Vita , will this be the better version to play? i mean it is created by the company that made the megaman zero saga wich is a "portable" saga. I dunno what to think about Mighty! but for sure im gonna grab it.

No one can really know tbh. Port could be solid or it could be a mess, and there may be extra features in some versions but not others. If it's a good port with nothing taken away from it then I'll almost certainly be picking it up on the Vita.

Hey guys, about spelunky, am i the only one thinking that:
-levels are not 100% random but based on what you have? Sometimes it trolls you, for example the only time i took no money in the first level the second level was a black market level...

Black Market isn't random at all. You reach it via the secret exit that must be bombed/dug out in the jungle (aided by the Udjat Eye).

I just think its challenge is unfair. I appreciate when your time is respected in games.

That's funny, because Spelunky is one of the games that respects your time most. In a world of cutscenes, QTEs, "press forward" gameplay and general mindlessness, it's hard to find a game that gets to the point faster than it; from stage one you're engaged and focused or you die.

I don't have problem when some games don't let you save (like shmup shooters), but not when a game is actively trying to get you killed.

I've rarely felt that I died in Spelunky to something that wasn't my fault in some way. Which is more than I can say of a lot of games, in fact. :D

It's silly how you can die in so many different ways, also when things are out of your hand. Like for instance, when the orange frog dies near a shop by accident and the owner blames you for it.

Don't kill an orange frog near a shopkeeper. True, it can be killed by a tiki trap and rebounded to the shopkeeper, but this is quite rare. Also, angering shopkeepers is by no means a death sentence, least of all in the jungle where they tend to get killed by tiki traps themselves.

II literally started a level once, hearing the owner going crazy from far away (without my doing).

There is no such thing as "game's length" in a roguelike. The very point of Spelunky is to learn about Spelunky; each and every death is a lesson learned. You learn not to throw stuff where it might rebound and hit you. You learn to detonate crates from a safe distance. You learn to spring tiki traps before climbing to them. There's a staggering amount of things to learn, from what each enemy drops to how to kill them efficiently. Roguelikes focus on learning the ins and outs of their systems and interactions, becoming better at the game (leveling yourself rather than your avatar).

I disagree with this.

Spelunky is a close to perfect port (the only "off" part I can find is that there's occasionally some slowdown in very specific instances) and you can take it with you and play it anywhere.

As of the last patch, even the slowdown is gone. :)

Alright, I've heard of Dustforce a couple of times but i never paid it any attention. I knew it was coming to Vita but I still never paid much attention to it.

But after watching this, I cant help but buy it day one...It barely even shows any gameplay but this video has sold me on it 100%

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaSA92iNDtM

That was a great video... Dustforce was an awesome get for Vita that I was hoping for. I keep forgetting that it and Fez are coming.

I didn't even know about Dustforce! I played a ton of it on PC, so this is a treat. For those that don't know about it, it's on Super Meat Boy levels of gameplay and challenge.

The last patch for Spelunky supposedly fixed any slowdown issues, but I haven't played it in awhile to know.

100% true, it feels like magic.

Definitely pick up Ultimate ghosts and goblins, It's a great game and it's such a shame that it's also become one of Capcoms many abandoned classic IP's.

Nope. Slowdown is still there.

Anyone knows the release date for Rogue Legacy on Vita ? i might buy it , seems like a nice metroidknightvania

Sometime in 2014.

I love me som GnG. I haven't played much of Ultimate GnG , but it's on my card and waiting for some attention.

As of the last patch, even the slowdown is gone. :)
In most cases, sure.
But not all. I've had slowdown in the last few days in certain instances (once on the ice level with the big mammoth and once when I got a dead are restless + water running jungle stage).

^ Happened to me too with those scenarios. It's pretty good though, when there were loads of big mammoths and huge water sections, it lagged a bit. Was okay still.
