Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies SPOILER thread | So THAT'S why it's rated M

Edit: BTW, anyone have a gif of Athena playing with her hair? It's a crime I can't find that animation.
Saved this one after a long search on Google images a while back, it's the best one I could find.

I've been listening to AA5 music so much over this past month, it's definitely one of my favourite Ace Attorney soundtracks. All three Objection themes are right up there as some of the best in the series for me. Apollo's remixed theme in particular stands out, I love that it now includes the flourish from the orchestra version of the original. Athena's Objection theme feels like something straight out of Iwadare's Grandia soundtracks, which works for me! I also thought that basing Objection 2013 on Objection 2004 worked magnificently, my preferred version of 2004 was always the Special Blend Mix version, and 2013 sounds closer to that.

Other highlights for me included Pursuit - Keep Pressing On (naturally), Lively People (it just made me feel H-A-P-P-Y!), Reminiscence - Tragic Memories and anything related to the Swashbuckler Spectacular. I really hope it gets the Gyakuten Meets Orchestra treatment at some point.

♫We be pirates, we love to sail the seven seas...♫

Since the same tracks keep getting mentioned (and rightly so!), I wanted to highlight some of the character themes:

Blackquill's Theme is a perfect fit for the second best prosecutor-dono in the series.

Suspicious People encapsulates the essence of, well, every AA's character cast since they're all over the top and ridiculous and kind of nuts.

Difficult People is like something out of Streets of Rage, I love it.

Our Secret Word is JUSTICE! is pretty awesome in its own right, but it also nurtures a very specific image of Fulbright. The final twist wouldn't have worked quite as well without this theme in place.

So yeah, the soundtrack is crazy good and the orchestra album will be g l o r i o u s.

I remember going into the final case with everyone saying it was better than Bridge To The Turnabout and thinking they were insane, but after finishing it I have to agree. Totally lost it when the black Psyche Locks appeared, and while it was cool how they explained it, it kinda flies in the face of Apollo Justice, where they were simply presented as unbreakable Psyche Locks, I don't even think Klavier's were ever broken were they?

If Kristoph's black Psyche Locks HAD been broken in Apollo Justice, seeing Athena's show up once confronted about the death of her mother wouldn't have had nearly as much impact.

I think this entire game flies in the face of AJ.

And I honestly love it.

This was probably already discussed, and I don't even know if it was intentional, but this was a big oh shit moment for me. I was kind of surprised they didn't make use of it for a Perceive section.

Oh yeah I get that, it just bugs me how the explanation behind them causes Klavier's Psyche Locks to make no sense

oh shit i never noticed! i always thought that was just a vein that anime characters like to show when they get angry/passionate

I like how he was drinking Grape Juice in Athena's song.

It was a nice touch

Then again, they were ALL drinking Grape Juice)

I finished the game like 6 hours ago, and thought it was splendid, even though there are a few things I didn't like.

For instance, and that's the biggest problem, most cases seem rather predictable? The first and second case were basically spoiled in the anime intro, and the third one had a obvious strange character in it (especially because of his smile). I'm not sure if I'm wrong here but I think many other characters of the old games were less easy to see through. The best thing about solving those case was always, that you had this abstract picture of the murder in mind - in AA5 you always had a certain character in mind which was a) spoiled or is b) obviously the murder; killed a lot of the tension I had during the game, and thankfully case 4 + 5 did it much better

The voice over isn't the very best either - Apollo and Athena sound okay, Phoenix and Edgeworth sound horrible. But oh well, at least they've reached new heights of quality with all the anime cutscenes which look great in 3D.

The good stuff: it's still a Ace Attorney game, and a freaking good one, too. Hearing the different music titles, the sound effects, using the various techniques to expose secrets, the whole UI and the plot progression is so nostalgia-fueled awesomeness that it's hard to withstand its charm. I think presentation-wise this is easily the best looking and sounding Ace Attorney game to day; I don't know how Capcom managed to create those 3D models and have such a stable framerate, but they did it and it looks fantastic. They easily ooze as much style as the old 2D sprites and I want to see more of that

Also, a huge plus point for me is one certain character, who always managed to put a smile on my face when he had the chance to talk: the judge. I know that there are way better developed characters in the whole franchise, but this dude kills it in almost every scene. Him talking about his past as judicial monster, having a hawk sitting on his bald head, asking Ms. Blackquill why she was interested in Ms. Cykes (lol), telling Phoenix he is disappointed since they both weren't good with technical stuff and now that Phoenix is he feels abandoned, being disappointed to not get invited to Lucy's party - I always lost it when this character was on display :lol
The humor is very good!

Oh, and you get a bunch of quality gaming time with the money you have to pay - I feel like the 25 euros have been spent quite well with this title

All in all, a must-have game for every AA fan :) Really liked Fulbright as well, and then that crazy ass twist out of nowhere

To be fair, they ALWAYS show you who did it in the first case for each game (as I recall), as it's meant to be more of a tutorial case and ease you into how to think and present evidence. I always give the first case the benefit of the doubt, it's meant to be the easiest of the bunch. Though I do agree about case 2. It just lead to me thinking "come oonnnn, when's he gonna appear? Oh good, now when will I cross-examine him in court?"

Yup, case 2 played like an extended tutorial after we just had a tutorial case. It dragged and I really didn't like a lot of the characters.

No issues with the case 1 bomber - but yeah, like I said and you elaborated, case 2 for example would have been much better since you had a weird thief and the make-up guy and the mayor as possible murders, but the anime intro spoiled it

Do we have any idea how this game sold? Well enough for future installments?

You mean North America and Europe, correct? It's important to specify because it did great in Japan, so there'll of course be future installments in the series but the question is whether they'll ever be localized.

We haven't had any info about specific sales data; the only thing we've had to go on is eShop sales chart information.

Kind of disappointed there wasn't a female culprit in this one. Although I was sure Aura was the one in Case 4 lol, how wrong I was.

Interview

Have you read this interview? It's funny since various Phoenix Wright characters chime in and add to the interview.

Looks like they broke their (unintentional?) tradition.

When you read something along the lines of "I just put the ladder where the detective told me to." and it all hits you.

Wow.

Them feels.

I don't think this is exclusive to only 5. For the first game, the first and second cases were shown immediately. The third one was pretty obvious one you got to her, and the fifth one... all I'll say is that Means wasn't the first authority figure to be really obviously not what he seems.

The sequels became increasingly less spoilery though, I suppose; 2 was actually pretty secretive beyond its first trial (perhaps because it has only four cases and is supposed to 'up the ante') while 3 actually never spoils the killer for any of its episodes.

5 is pretty tame though, honestly. Sure, the first two give it away, and Means is so very quickly and obviously guilty (I called it before there was a crime committed), but the ones that count were complete mysteries.

Well...

Case 3-2 also immediately gives away the killer by showing his silhouette early on. (It's blurred, but it's clearly
Luke Atmey
)

Was case 1-3 really obvious? It's been years since I played it, but I remember being in the dark until the very end.

So why aren't
Manfred, Gant, Skye and Godot
referenced for theDark Age of the Law? Public opinion should have shifted years ago.
Manfred killed a defense attorney years ago, killed another one and framed a prosecutor. Gant was the chief of police and murdered two detectives and Skye was the chief prosecutor and helped him clean up the mess. Godot murdered a woman, an important police and government consultant.

But hey, Phoenix used some fabricated evidece and Blackquill confessed to killing a doctor. That's the straw that broke the camel's back? C'Mon.

1-3 wasn't obvious right away, but it became so once you met the character.

Case 2 was basically ruined by showing L'Belle in the anime opening.

Why did they do that? It's not like this was 1-2 where seeing Redd helped the emotional links.

The best part of case 5, that makes me laugh the most, is Phoenix's reaction to the Phantom's Phoenix mask.

"WHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!?"

Lmao. Poor Nick.

Dr. Crab is a great character. He wouldn't be half the man without Sniper though. When Sniper picked up Crab's stethoscope and used it on his forehead, I couldn't stop smiling.

Also, having some serious withdrawal issues. Need. more. Ace. Attorney. @_@

Join the AAI2 fan-translation team! Then they'll release the patch earlier.

Heh, unfortunately I probably wouldn't be much help. Is there an ETA on the translation? I actually really enjoyed AAI more than most and I heard that the 2nd one was much better.
