No Man's Sky announced - Hello Games (VGX)

Looks awesome, but I'm always hesitant about overly ambitious sci-fi games. Eve online serves as a reminder to me that it isn't easy to make these types of games, and it also takes a lot of time and refinement.

I'm gonna buy it on day1 on PS4, not many indies can wow me so much with just 1 trailer. Wish there would be some kind of open alpha pre-purchase actually.

It has a nice style to it, but that just makes me think it's going to play like ass
Yeah. Maybe it's just the way the trailer was cut, but it definitely gives me a desire to have seen the player doing something on the planet besides just moving to complement the space combat. Being an indie though, I give them the benefit of the doubt.

How this game handles progression will hinge on how enjoyable it is IMO. You can't present a scope like that and shortchange people on one aspect, it'll bring the whole project down (i.e. if spaceship combat/use is the main focus, it marginalizes everything else).

Really want it to be good though. That one shot with the fallen ship that looked straight out of Halo 1 or 4 definitely brought feels.

I was so happy to see what "Project Skyscraper" was after all this time. Hello Game had that code name on their site for at least a year now, saying that was their next project.

Looks incredible. So ambitious. I'm a little shocked they're even attempting something so big, and potentially complicated. Cannot wait to see more gameplay.

It would be very wise for Sony or Microsoft to snatch this up as a timed exclusive. Better yet, just outright buy Hello Games if they're willing. I've been on this studios dick for a few years now, and I seriously think they're gonna do big things.

This is INCREDIBLE. WOW. I'm just having trouble understanding a project of this scope and ambition from a four-person dev team; even one as good as Hello Games. I'm just blown away and this is the EXACT kind of game I would love. Here's hoping it comes to PS4.

Sounds great, but what really makes it for me is that they aren't afraid of using color.

Really hoping between this and star citizen my needs for space exploration will be met. I'm seriously jonesing for an experience where I can walk around a planet, get in my fully exploitable ship, climb into the drivers seat and fly straight into space without one loading screen, then land on my shared space station with friends, suit up, head back out into a space battle that extends into an asteroid field, continuing on into a new planets atmosphere, winning the battle then landing on the planet to salvage the enemy ship for parts and loot. Rinse, repeat.

Star citizen SEEMs like it might offer that but this also has my pants soaked.

It's insane that this is the only thing out of VGX that I'm remotely interested in. WTF is going on? Where are the announcements of games coming in 2014?

I would not have expected what looks like a sort of spiritual procedural sequel to Elite from the Joe Danger guys. Talk about left field.

Saviours of the fucking show. I loved how the guy talked and the look of his game. The only Human Being that was there. (I'd say alongside ND but they are Gods).

I'd be careful not to get too excited about this. Procedurally generated more often means bland and repetitive than exciting.

Minecraft in space with planets. Looks pretty awesome though. Unfortunately these games normally get boring really fast for me :(

Where's the 'minecraft' bit coming from? Bear in mind I haven't seen the interview people are referencing. But the trailer doesn't suggest anything minecraft-ish.

If they don't already have publishers banging down their doors, perhaps Hello Games should Kickstart this, pull in a couple of million dollars, grow the team then take their time to get it right - so much potential here, it deserves to be done right.

So pleased that a four-man indie dev team was able to, in my opinion, steal the show. Will be watching on with much interest.

I wish Goeff had more time to pick that dev's brain. He was asking a ton of the right questions and it still wasn't enough to fully appreciate what type of game this is.

This along with SCALE and The Witness are my most anticipated indie projects.

Holy shit, this is everything I've ever wanted. This just shot right to the top of my list of games to watch. Cannot wait.

After seeing this trailer, I kept thinking "This is what I thought Destiny was supposed to be like" Really impressive considering the difference in dev teams, and the fact that Destiny is not actually going to be like this.

There are some pitfalls with proceduraly generated levels/planets/etc. but from the trailer, it looked like they could pull it off. Just make the worlds compelling enough to visit and explore.

If there was ever an announcement trailer that deserved the Banderas, it was this one.

Funny how it took an indie studio to bring us seamless planet to space transition -- I've wanted for so freaking long.

I'm absolutely intrigued. Right up there with Rime and The Witness on my anticipation list.

Three thoughts.

1) You do NOT go from Joe Danger to this. No. Just no. That's insane. Huge hat tip to the HG team for their ambition.

2) I'm hyped but cautiously so. Need to know more.

3) The "shitty little indie game" people who doubt anything that's made by a small team or digital-only need to die in a fire already. I'm continually amazed by the people who can't see where all of this is headed and that indie devs are bringing a great flavor to the industry. Your shoot bangs aren't going anywhere. Quit shitting on the work small teams are doing just because you think Braid was pretentious or whatever stupid grudge you have against these guys.

Where's the 'minecraft' bit coming from? Bear in mind I haven't seen the interview people are referencing. But the trailer doesn't suggest anything minecraft-ish.
Just that it is procedurally generated. I know it's nothing knew, but Minecraft was the first example that popped into my head. Also it has the same basic premise I think. You start in a random generated world and can do whatever you want pretty much.

So obviously this is coming to PC. This is not exclusive to any one platform, because then we'd have an announcement already from one of the 3. And as of right now, it's probably not launching on any platform, because someone would have told us by now. Maybe they are still negotiating.

Looks veeeeeeeery interesting, and pretty to boot. I'd like to know what the gameplay involves before I wet myself with excitement, but they definitely got my attention.

That moment after the one minute mark... where you're flying up, images flash before you for a second... and then just as you enter space the music changes and you realize this is a space sim as well... wow. Completely dropped my jaw. Some people really know how to make a trailer. I really hope the game turns out good.

The crux of minecraft is...well...crafting and building. Didn't see hints of that. The video doesn't give much away though as far as interaction goes.

It would be 100 times more fun if this was online only

If it was online only i would have 0 interest in it. i dont mind if it as mp in in, but not as the only option.
Same with Star citizen, don't really care about the persistent universe, but i'm looking forward to the sp campaign and setting a a local server for me to play on.

This was one of the more interesting games I saw tonight, though still unsure on the concept. The fact that it's an MMO sounds appealing. Very interested in knowing more about the "adversarial environment" they mentioned during the show.

This, the Witness, that Cactus Android game...and many other impressive and promising indie titles make me want th cheer for the talented men and women who have devoted so much time and energy, faced so many challenges and strived day and night to make their visions a reality. Kudos to all of those people!

Looks and sounds absolutely incredible, but so does every game that says they have procedurally generated everything.

I want to believe, but Spore happened.
