No Man's Sky announced - Hello Games (VGX)

I'll hold my judgement.

Been burned by a lot of potential and this just screams out to me as not to hype myself. It lots like what I'd want star citizen to achieve eventually.

Looks and sounds absolutely incredible, but so does every game that says they have procedurally generated everything.

I want to believe, but Spore happened.

Yup! The problem with games that rely heavily on procedural content is that everything built around that content often turns out bland as hell, often by necessity. I hope I'm wrong, personally, but we'll see.

A impressive technical achievement for such a small team but I am sceptical on the actual game being something worth playing.

You have my attention HelloGames. Dont mess this up.

dear lord i 'ooohhed' as the ship took off and zipped through the clouds but swooned as the clouds and atmosphere thinned and it reached space and the ships above.

love the colors and art direction. can't wait to hear more about gameplay. Elite-like gameplay with this look... i'm fucking sold and day 1.

Let me go spelunking and I'm in.

Actually, whatever. I don't care. What I saw there was enough for a purchase. I just want to explore planets.

I hope they focus on one platform instead of spreading themselves thin.

PC

With only 4 guys on the team, I'm pretty sure they are only working on one platform. If you look at the trailer you can clearly tell movement is being manipulated by an analogue stick from a controller due to it's "slow smoothness."

Which only means one thing.

It's a PC with a console controller plugged in.

Yeah it really blew me away too, to fully realise that it's a space thing too

That looked unfuckinbelievable. This looks like what i wanted but never recieved from Spore, except hopefully this time there is a meaningful gameplay component.

This is one of four or so things I caught on my phone live. I was hoping to come back to GAF and see the same reaction that I had - total excitement!

So obviously this is coming to PC. This is not exclusive to any one platform, because then we'd have an announcement already from one of the 3. And as of right now, it's probably not launching on any platform, because someone would have told us by now. Maybe they are still negotiating.

Maybe, it could also be a situation where if they are going with a publisher that they want to get the PR straight before making an offical platform announcement.

I still think its entirely possible that it will end up being either PS4 timed exclusive, or PC timed exclusive as Hello Games has not had great things to say about Microsoft over the past year.

I would say that because of ID its possible that has changed, but thats only been done fairly recently and we dont know how many people knew about this project as it seems to have caught allot of people offguard.

Hopefully we will get some solid details soon, but I have to believe that they are now being bombarded from interested gamers, and interested publishing partners.

Yeah it reminds me of Spore, which was very underwhelming, so I'll wait before hopping on the hype train this time.

Man, we can worry about "potential" and stuff later, bruhs

Right now all that matters is that trailer. It's a most excellent trailer. One of the best next gen trailers so far. Bask in the magic of the ground --> space segment.

I agree, any what ifs, or maybes aside this game looks like something out of my wettest gameing dreams. A form of something like Eve with fully explorable worlds that have their own ecosystems, weather cycles, planet/space exploration, ship/and ground combat. We are already seeing some nice variety in the planets from the trailer, and despite my hesitation for online only games the thought of all, or most of those other ships being piloted by other players makes it all the better.

Its astounding that just what was shown in this trailer is coming from a 4 person team whos last game was a side scrolling motorcycle stunt game. I really hope they dont make us wait long before sharing more information about it.

Wow, this is certainly not Joe Danger.

Good for them for breaking out and doing something new. Looks intriguing.

As for platform, I could definitely see this being on Xbox One as part of the ID@Xbox program.

This looks absolutely incredible. And put together by four individuals nonetheless. If they can put together a stylized persistent procedurally-generated fantasy sci-fi universe and sell it to me as a downloadable psn game, this is going to be the start of the best console gen yet. Just think: our prayers will finally be answered. The standard high production value generic AAA stuff will still be there in droves. But the indies will be the ones to save us. They will bring back stylized, creative games with a focus on new types of well-thought-out, immersive, deep gameplay elements and with well designed characters and universes, harkening back to the days of old when fresh IPs and new gameplay innovations were at the forefront of what being a gamer was all about. No focus tested, lowest common denominator bullshit. No blowing all the time and budget on the graphics engine. Just a pure nerd-driven artistic pursuit of fun and fantastical experiences and exploration and delightful weirdness. This is going to be great!

Highlight of the show, without a doubt. Even though it didn't have much competition in being so.

Isn't the concept of Star Citizen similar to this?

I'm thinking PC, PS4 Time Console Exclusive. Which means PC, PS4, WiiU. Because Microsoft launch day parity. But it has to be on PC. There'd be some indication if it wasn't.

The wound from spore still cuts too deep. Some of these crazy ambitious games are just way too hard for me to bite on without seeing something more concrete, personally.

Procedural stuff always leave me with a bad taste. In either case, I love what I've seen thus far, just a little confused as to what you do in it.

And hell, did you hear about how the dev they were interviewing about it said he made it from gameplay footage on the way over to VGX? Insane that the game is already to that point.

While watching the trailer, I was REALLY fucking pumped and hyped for the first 20 seconds, it was just perfect. Was smiling in excitement, and then my smile, hype, and excitement all died the moment the game footage actually started showing. The graphics. :( I mean... it's not bad for a team of 4 players, but... ugh. I really hope the gameplay is a ton of fun, and is fun enough to make me ignore how ugly the game looks. Game definitely has potential, gameplay and the foundation for the game has so much potential.

EDIT: Anyone have an HD link? Maybe the video I saw was just in bad quality.

Well the only thing we know for sure right now is that it will be "next gen only" but they had not decided on a specific platform. I read that recently from an interview they did earlier this year.

Their last interview about Microsoft was not exactly glowing so im not sure how quickly they may have changed any plans considering that MS has only really just started giving real information on ID. I have to imagine their size would make it very difficult for multiplatform across PC/PS4/Xbone. They havea good relationship with Sony already though so that could play into it also.

I just cannot wait to see more of it, if these four guys can pull this off then the big pubs are really going to need to evaluate their current strategy in a major way.

Sounds incredible, I love stuff like this. I'm a little wary though, Spore promised something great and I found it to be lacking. I understand this is a different team and it has different gameplay but my standards are high for a space exploration game!

The 2 best kinds of videogame hype are:

1. Crazy ambitious games
2. New IP from an "already established as great" developer. (this can also count for massively improved sequels)

LIVE in that hype, man. It only comes along once every so often. You will be disappointed sometimes, but the journey is so good.

Ya know, the developers are situated in Guildford, Surrey, UK. I live in Surrey, about an hour or so away from them. I must know the secret of this being made by 4 guys, I'll have to bang on their doors for answers! XD

Easily the most impressive thing I saw on this VGX that I only caught highlights of.

This is the most impressive thing I saw on the entire show. I really don't know how they are going to pull it off with a four-man team, but the concept sounds amazing.

Do It!

I wonder if Shaid was trying to skype them after the reveal.

It's like if Noctis was actually good looking.

Htown, don't be stupid. Nobody else remembers Noctis.

How can it be that a team of only 4 developers are making this? I bet they saw the Destiny announcement and they were like: "Shiieeeeet"

I hope them all the success though. Game looks awesome and the guy that was interviewed seemed genuine.

Sony should bag this as an exclusive.

Throw some money and more talent behind it.

Looks really promising,
