Starbound Beta Thread - Begins December 4th!

One invite person got creative: "ILL SUCK YOUR DICK FOR CASH OMNI." There was much loling in the chat.

And now, after checking that the update works on his end... He's now playing Rogue Legacy. What a troll, lol.

Might have sold me on that too, since the game looks pretty interesting!

Yeah, Rogue Legacy has some very cool design decisions and is very fun - it's practically the indie PC roguelike version of Infinity Blade.

Just expect to die. A lot. He's currently playing on New Game +, hence why there's so many overpowered monsters on his stream.

Yesss! So much for sleep tonight lol. Should be done in around 10 minutes or so. Can't wait to try out the Pok-I mean creature capture feature.

has there been any explanation on what that is btw? Is this the pet system?

I think so. You craft a pokeball thing that you throw at an enemy (when its health is below 50%), it shakes, and you can pick it back up. You then throw it to release the monster which will follow you around and fight for you until it dies, where it will go back into its ball. Right now, there's no way to recall the monster so you have to wait for it to die to get it back in its ball, and if you teleport to your ship with it released it won't teleport with you. But those will be fixed in a later patch.

Edit: Also...great username.

O_O Not sure if serious, if so YESSS.

Thanks.

Patch is currently downloading, but I'm going to bed. The game isn't going anywhere, and I'll just play it tomorrow. I have to be up in a few hours for work, and I've already stayed up later than I intended for unrelated to Starbound reasons...

Rational thinking?! That's nonsense!

I'm going to stay up at least an hour or two later than I should!

Maybe it uses direct OpenGL rendering instead of SDL? That seems like a fair bit of work for them to have done so quickly if that's the case though.

There was always a Starbound_opengl.exe in the game's files.

I tried it myself and it had some benefits, like borderless window scripts working, but the performance was bad even at the default zoom level.

Disappointing for me that this patch broke the game for me. Windows XP user here, previous workarounds let me play the game but this patch seems to have broken that. :/

*yawn* Izz da patchhh uuup? Ahll go turn da serva ahn den...

Awesome! You're the best, HaRyu. Thanks so much for hosting a great server. :D

Sorry to hear that, it was supposed to fix the XP stuff this patch. :/

I'm guessing you already did, but did you undo whatever the previous workarounds were?

If so that kinda sucks, hopefully a new workaround shows up soon or they fix it themselves.

I'm guessing it's a first pass then. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think SDL -uses- OpenGL under the hood, so using OpenGL by itself should be as fast if not faster, once things are optimized.

Either way, some graphics drivers may have really bad OpenGL support or at least I think it was the case a couple of years ago, so who knows.

Yeah, I did. I can see from bartwe's twitter and their forums I'm not the only one. I tried replacing the SDL.ddl again like last time but it did nothing.

Looks like alien meat drops from sword kills now. Just got meat on the first creature I killed. It also didn't aggro me until I got much closer than we had to previously.

Rolled Apex this time. Got an very random randomly generated name I decided to run with. Am catching up to my paltry progress very quickly.

Alright for anyone out there with Windows XP, if it breaks for you and you get the access violation error, just verify the game files in steam and it should work.
