Starbound Beta Thread - Begins December 4th!

I was indifferent to terraria. But I love starbound to death. Mainly because it encourages exploration far more. You don't have to worry about keeping track of shelter because you have a space ship. There's so many worlds. You can survive simply off of traveling to new worlds and looting random civilizations. It's so great.

Closet Floran!

serves me right for sleeping. I missed all the excitement.

now, reading back it looks like everything we stored in our apocalypse bunkers are gone correct?

if so, I ain't even mad. sounds like the new content makes it all worth it. This game will keep on giving.

I have the same feels. I didn't think Terraria was bad, but it didn't really hook me in like Starbound has. I can't wait to play more, SO MUCH TO EXPLORE!

Erg, I'm no fan of the new balance planet wise, not knowing how strong mob are going to be before going on a planet and checking them is really a bad idea ( or a bug ? ) considering going from one planet to another isn't instant.

I sort of enjoyed the harsh progression prior to the patch. It created a unique atmosphere being on an alien planet where anything could easily kill me. Shame about the universe wipe though.

Since the patch is going to destroy everything, here is my WIP house that I've stopped working on.

It was originally an Avian cultist house (bottom right part) that I stole, then added onto.

Here's my small spawn. Just something simple. I was going to save up iron bits from some Apex buildings to the west of spawn once I got a pickaxe that wasn't slow and agonizing and then build a proper launch pad.

What I love about the story is the little random bits. I have some Avian houses to the east, a cultist house or two, a cultist ATTACKING a pair of Avians, then an Apex city. To the west I have several Apex buildings and more cultists. So I kind of created my own little story: that the Apex took this planet over from the Avians years ago and the cultists are trying to summon their god to fight back. They also try and kill anyone of their race who has sided with the Apex.

Because I'm lame, people.

Yep. Not that its a complete shock, but the advice we were given was to store stuff if we wanted to save stuff. I always cautioned to expect the worst case scenario though.

Hell, we're still in the 1st phase of beta. This is going to happen CONSTANTLY. If this wipe has turned you off, you really need to just stop playing for now, and wait for the game to get out of beta.

But for those of you who are into pain and suffering, we can use these oppotunities to fine tune our explore/gather strategies, in order to create the perfect plan on how to rush build our way through the game.

Aww poop, looks like our starships no longer have a wood burning engine.

That's probably for the best. We razed the planets on the GAF server of wood waaaaay too quickly.

That's actually pretty awesome, I look forward to creating my own sub narrative as well when it drops to my console of choice!

I just started playing this last night, so I am an extreme newbie... but that tower in the middle, how the hell do you get down? I don't understand how sometimes i can walk past a background item and sometimes I can't lol.

You can jump down off those small ledges and stairs by pressing down + jump.

I think you drop through platforms like that by pressing S+Space

Those "floors" are special floors, called "platforms." When on them, pressing down and jump makes you go down. They're useful to make ladders kind of things.

Edit: such quick wow many speeds

Why would that require a character wipe? Shouldn't the item values be completely separate from character save files? So after patching, the game would just load the new values for pre-existing items?

Seems kinda dumb to have it any other way.

I have to agree with you. Why exactly are they wiping for item value modifications?

They shouldn't have went public beta this early. This is probably damaging to the games reputation.

This is a correct use of the Word beta.

They have been clear from the start that in phase 1 massive amounts of wipes will be conducted.
