The controls felt stiff. I realized later that there's different cars around with better handling but even with two upgrades it just felt like hitting corners didn't work out for me and the cars are EXTREMELY fragile. Tap a wall slightly and super long dramatic crash scene.

I checked out some reviews before purchasing and assumed those people were just bad but after trying it myself.... For like 4 hours straight. I uninstalled it.

You liked it?
NFSMW was one of the worse purchases I made on the Vita, but I remember the controls were fine for me. Rivals on the PS4 feels (and obviously looks) much better though.

I see them now, looks good, thanks. Kind of disappointing to hear they didn't allow for touch-aiming (unless I misunderstand what you're saying) but maybe that sounds better in my head than in practice. I just remember that the right-stick controls on the 360 version were less than ideal when compared to a mouse. Still buying it though, really excited for the 17th.

Touch aiming would be really bad...although having said that, you can zoom in, let me get a screenshot.

jrAJgEs.jpg
Okay so you zoom in with the standard touch motion.

But it still isn't close enough for touch imo. TBH the way they've done it is really good. Not sure how it works in xbox but with this there is "smart cursor" and "manual cursor" flipped by a button near the bottom left of the screen. In manual cursor a crosshair appears on screen more fixed with non-weapon items (as far as I can tell) and the sensitivity of the right stick is much lower so that placing items precisely is easy. Pretty quick too tbh.

terraria impressions are driving me crazy

needs my house builder

PW has three different control schemes. The default (Shooter?) is the best and when played on a Vita with the second analog stick it works great. I never played the PSP version. They take some getting used to but in all fairness its much better than MGS3 because PW inherits the shooter-style MGS4 logic to the controls, if that makes sense.

And no there's no food eating/survival thing in PW. What it DOES have though is a super kick ass addicting base-building/recruiting/replayable sub-mission aspect to the game, which gives it loads of replayability and is generally more fun than MGS3. MGS3 is still the quintessential Metal Gear game though. Best of the series, imo.

I got an email about Doki Doki -- couldn't understand what the hell it was, but it was kind of interesting. Then I saw it said it was a PS3 game and I ignored it.

Is it NOT a PS3 game? It's playable on Vita?

It's a cross-buy/save game for PS4/3/Vita. I personally love it, and there's a demo, so you should check it out.

So are we doing that Best Games of 2014 vote or not? I could probably manage it -- in a past life I was a music blogger, and I ran a couple of massive voting things. This seems like it'd be way easier. If someone could point me to the post in the Steam thread where they explain how they do it, I can come up with some voting guidelines for today or tomorrow.

Not really. I have a JP account and MC if I want it too.

Seems like a lot of hassle to me. But hey, if it works for you... :)

That seems more reasonable. I wonder when it's coming out in NA?

why couldn't terraria come out today in the US :/

i guess i've waited this long, what's another week?

Just play more Spelunky. You're better off and it won't run you $15.

Yeah its not on EU/AU's PS+ unfortunately.

That's unfortunate. At least you've got PS+ though. :)

Wait for another sale on it first. It's been down to $10 before. I grabbed it when it dropped to $20, but I could've waited. :|

Well, shame on Sony for saying it's PS3 only. To be fair, there's a Vita and PS4 links below, but the email links here:
http://us.playstation.com/games/dok...t_20131210&pos=b&linkname=pscomwa_dokiimage_b

And on quick glance, it just says "Platforms: PS3".

How large is it? like the art style and am considering a download.

Thanks -- I don't go to the PS blog in NA much, they're generally useless. And most of the news posted there makes its way in here rather quickly... so since I hadn't seen anything in here yet... that question was supposed to be rhetorical. :P

I wonder why EU is getting everything a week ahead of NA lately -- got an answer for that? ;)

$8 isn't bad... at least they don't think they can get away with $15 with no PS+ discount.

Is Terraria actually confirmed for next week in NA or is everyone blindly assuming that it will because it got released in Europe this week?

There has been prior art of massively delayed NA releases compared to Europe.

Confirmed at this point.

It's me or terraria looks worse(emptier?) than the ps3 version?

Terraria is heavily dependent on how the world is generated, from what I remember.

I'm really enjoying Spelunky. I got to 1-3 the first time I played, then died. I hit quick restart and kept retrying what I thought was 1-3. I got frustrated so I turned off my Vita. Later, I booted the game up again and was horrified that it didn't keep my money or progress. I was at 1-1 again. Now I know the truth and it's harsh. Love it.

Welcome to old school. ;)

corrosive hates on terraria because it got delayed and he thinks it's too expensive.

i've been looking forward to playin on my vita dor a while, it's why i never started my pc copy. i'm also forgiving of devs because tey need both time and money to make (or port) a game.

I spent over 30 hours with the PC version and never put a dent in it. I liked the game a lot and when looking at their new title, Starbound, I think I'll still prefer Terraria.

That said, I still think it's bad form for the developer to:
(1) Charge $15 for it. That seems like gouging, especially considering how often the game goes on sale on other platforms. It retails for $10 on Steam and $5 on android/iOS. It's been on sale for every platform (maybe not XBLA) for less than $5 ($2 for mobile, <$4 steam and PS3, etc.).
(2) Speaking of android/iOS, they announced the Vita port before the android/iOS ports and yet the Vita version is here last.
(3) Would it have killed them to reward those who supported their port of Terraria to PS3 with cross-buy instead of gouging people who want to use cross-save for another $15? I mean, look how well it worked out for Dragon's Crown where it cost $100 to get both versions...

I'm all for supporting devs who make great experiences/games (Tearaway, Ys, etc.), but I'm not a fan of devs that take forever to get their product out -- all while not informing the customer base of progress/developments/setbacks -- and then charging a premium with the price.

I can't remember if you said it but I was talking about the PS3 ones. I will be more careful about it. I don't want to repeat the same sentences about PS+ ad infinitum. :P

I went and found it. :P

US PS+ VITA GAMES ARE GIVEN OUT THE LAST TWO STORE UPDATES OF THE MONTH. THUS SOUL SACRIFICE AND ODDWORLD WILL BE FREE STARTING ON 11/19 AND 11/26. AS TO WHICH GAME IS FREE ON WHICH DATE, YOUR GUESS IS AS GOOD AS MINE.

EU PS+ CONTENT IS GIVEN OUT, IN IT'S ENTIRETY, ON THE LAST STORE UPDATE OF THE MONTH PRECEEDING THE CONTENT. FOR EXAMPLE, THE NOVEMBER EU PS+ CONTENT BECAME AVAILABLE ON 10/30. DECEMBER'S PS+ CONTENT WILL BE AVAILABLE ON 11/27.

Now... to be fair, I don't explicitly state anything about PS3 games here... but it's implied that if the Vita games are the last two store updates of the month that the PS3 games should be the first x-2 updates of the month, where x is the number of Tuesdays that occur during the month in question.

As for the PS4 games, I don't think anyone knows for sure how they're going to work -- they made Contrast and Resogun free somewhere around the launch window of PS4 in NA... but we haven't had a new PS4 title added yet, so it's hard to say how SCEA will handle it.

Assuming that SCEE continues with the content dump on the last wednesday of the previous month, maybe the PS4 content will finally push SCEA to adopt a similar model and we can say good riddance to questions regarding when a particular title will be free on PS+ :)

Side note:
It's really weird seeing the blue/grey background for my post and then seeing a green quote in it because I quoted myself.

They just announced it for next week in North America too. Which means next week is insane for new Vita games. By my count, we're getting:

Runner2
Furmins (also announced today on the PS Blog)
Eufloria HD
Mutant Mudds Deluxe
Indoor Sports World

Am I missing any?

Mutant Mudds Deluxe should be great.
Do we have a price on that? I just bought it on PC, but if the port is good and the price isn't egregious, I'll consider double dipping.

I figured it was delayed due to star bound and no one caring about the vita.

I assume they are in the business to make money. I appreciate a bone every now and again.

I think, as I state above, that the bigger problem (from my perspective) is not the delay in general, but the possibility that the delay was caused while they ported the game to mobile phones -- and now they port it to vita and it's 3x the price of the mobile entries. I know I'm stepping on Takao's toes here, but that's really unacceptable to me, so I won't be buying it until it's on sale for Steam like prices. I have enough to play and it's not been high on my wishlist lately anyway.

For those willing to hop in at the $15 price tag, I hope they did a good job on the port and you get a quality port. :)

I regret getting Dragons Crown - I agree with the shallowness the game has that someone mentioned earlier. It's a little too repetitive, as I all do is spam like 1 AOE spell. would have rather got it at 20$ - not 30$ :)

my other regret is Silent Hill: BOM - thankfully I got it for 7$ though, so at that price it has provided a couple hours of enjoyment. But overall - I could have done without it on my machine.

I wish Silent Hill:BoM had better online. I really wanted to play with others, but I could never get a room going with the few people who wanted to play. :(

As for Dragon's Crown -- the combat is as simple or as complex as you make it, as it is with a lot of games that have variation moves. Can you get by with walking around spamming your 1 AoE spell? Sure. But I beat Bayonetta on hard using a single combo 95% of the time... so that must be shallow and repetitive, right?

Funny enough, I went and found a combo video for sorceress (and it uses Bayonetta's music). Anyway, the game doesn't HAVE TO BE spamming your 1 AoE spell:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGHD8bJyq8Y

To further demonstrate, here's someone doing some impressive Taskmaster-esque stuff with the elf:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vI-VysP-63s

Remember kids, just because you can manage to play a game by exploiting a single move doesn't mean the gameplay is shallow. :P

How is DJMax TT? I've been planning on getting that game for some time now. Just not sure how good it is.

Awesome, if you like the genre grab it. At first I was not sure about the touch controls, but now I would not like to go bad to the old ways. Hoping for a sequel on Vita and not only on mobile.

It's a fair statement, but I've put the game off indefinitely until the vita release. With the free $10 from purchasing a PS4, i really can't think of anything else I'd like to play

it's not really a fair statement at all, how else will you play portable Terraria?

I took it to mean that the game isn't without its issues so he's choosing to abstain. I've wanted it more than any vita game since spelunky so I don't feel like I have a choice.

That and playing with my son should be sweet

^ confirmed this time

It's me or terraria looks worse(emptier?) than the ps3 version?

I haven't played the PS3 version but I looked at some screenshots and it looks very similar to me? Another screen:
Sorry it was still pretty dark out.
Edit - Actually some PS3 screenshots have more trees in the background, haven't come across those yet...I'm playing the trial at the moment though.

Just realised you can switch items by tapping the left or right sides in the middle section of the vita screen to do quick changes...pretty sweet I have to say.

Item shortcuts on the d-pad are set up in the inventory as well.

It's smart design, will probably get this today actually lol.

I hope that Final Fantasy V finally being on the PS Vita store is a sign of things to come from SCEA.

Tons of content not on the Vita store natively, that should be.

Nothing kills impulse buys more than not being able to just buy it on the Vita and download it right there. Sony's backwards store management is ridiculous. PS3 store is still tedious to browse, which is another impulse killer.

Now that I see you're responding to Killatopak here about PS+, let me yell at him...

C'mon, buddy -- did you forget all the posts I've made on the subject of PS+ for the constant stream of questions. I'm pretty sure you even quoted some of them when I used ALL CAPS. :P

I can't remember if you said it but I was talking about the PS3 ones. I will be more careful about it. I don't want to repeat the same sentences about PS+ ad infinitum. :P

Yeah, Terraria is a pretty good game but I can't stand buying it when it was so late in the game. I'll definitely purchase it but not now. There's too much games to play for me. I can't decide which one. There's too many to chose from! It's frustrating. In a good way.

Say VitaGAF, I want to ask: is there any game that you really regret spending money on?

Thomas Was Alone and DOA5+ are my answer.... Man, I really regret purchasing them.

I regret buying my white vita.....
I kid! It's my baby.

Also, someone mentioned starting to play Killzone - I just started as well.. I think i'm going to try to go through campaign first and unlock everything then dive into MP, but maybe if we do a private game for gaffers I'd be down.

Say VitaGAF, I want to ask: is there any game that you really regret spending money on?

Not that they were bad games, but I regret buying Sine Mora, Dokuro, and Hustle Kings. Sine More is a little too difficult for me and Dokuro I just couldn't get into. Both were free on PS+ a month later, too lol. Playing Hustle Kings made me realize I wasn't really into pool games.

I also had slight regrets with Ragnarok Odyssey because it was really repetitive, but I might give Ace a shot if they make grinding less tedious.

Aside from those, I'm pretty satisfied with most of my Vita library. I feel like the Vita's library is rounding out and maturing in diverse ways.

Totally forgot Mutant Mudds comes out next week. Damn, that's a lot of games I want to play.

I dont understand Terraria...

is it just an even more low res, 2D minecraft?

I dont understand minecraft either.

Yeah I don't get it either.

In other news, Super Crate Box is awesome. A PS Mobile game that doesn't suck fat hairy monkey balls? Mother of god. The other free PS Mobile game we got this week is a return to form for PS Mobile.

Nop. So far I bought Persona 4 Golden, Tearaway, Rayman Legends and Ridge Racer 4 (PS1 classic). I love them all, though I suck at racing games xD.

I dont understand Terraria...

I dont understand minecraft either.

It's a huge 2D world with SNES-like graphics. You can play with swords/magic/or guns. There are many loose objectives and a ton to find. There are baked in boss fights, a few dungeons, a few world events.

You can spend hours building a tunnel to hell, or building a base to keep out the zombies, or just upgrading your gear. It's really an incredible game that borrows a lot from Minecraft, but also a lot from Metroidvanias.

In other news, Super Crate Box is awesome. A PS Mobile game that doesn't suck fat hairy monkey balls? Mother of god. The other free PS Mobile game we got this week is a return to form for PS Mobile.

It frustrates me greatly that they give out these free games, right before they expand in to new countries.

My other post is getting too big... so...

I dont understand Terraria...

is it just an even more low res, 2D minecraft?

I dont understand minecraft either.

It's 2D minecraft with a point.
There's bosses to find and kill, dungeons to explore, etc.
All done in a 2D world with crafting/building/etc.

All this Terraria talk is making me wanna check it out. Sounds like something my son would like too. But not at that price, I'm afraid.

Tearaway. $20. Twenty. Dollars.
I'm trying to not to spend money in anticipation for PSN sales D:

This is pretty much exactly why I won't be picking up Terraria

Okay seems like there will be a few gaffers to play with, bought. I liked what I tried of the controls.

I know they're being a bit greedy though and I agree.

62MB :) ...

My Vita screen has packed in so I am weighing up whether it would be better to get it repaired or just buy a new one... which wouldn't cost much more... but I need to know if I can transfer all my games/saves over to a new one?
If I put my memory card in a new Vita will everything be on there, or are some saves etc tied to the Vita?
I have PS+ so hope some of my saves will be in the cloud but worried that they're not all up to date.
Also wondering if I can hook my broken Vita to a PC and transfer all my stuff onto a new one that way?
Just really don't want to lose anything!
Any help/advice massively appreciated...

Edit: Ooh, top of page. Recommended - Hotline Miami, Sonic Racing Transformed (free on EU+), Dragon's Crown and of course P4G.

Yes to all of the above. I suggest transferring to PC because it works great as a back up memory card for me.
