the color feels washed out....I guess they are using same engine as Xillia 1&2.

The color in Tales games usually feels kinda washed out though. That's a big reason why I've avoided the one of the only console J-RPG franchises left this gen. But this one doesn't look as bad just yet, though I guess there's still time for them to screw that up. >_<

Anyway, if I'm not completely wrapped up in PS4 stuff when this comes out, I might get this.

More than one dragon like Skyrim? Or just 1 dragon? I really hope there is more than one. And if the fields are so open I wouldn't mind a ground mount or something. I sure do miss exploring in a vehicle. Teleportation is so lame.

I'd be fine with the MC if not for the earrings. It looks silly. Can't wait to play this though, looks great especially if it has Graces' combat system.

I think its pretty obvious, when you consider how Baba talked about the dragons importance + bigger fields, that this game will eventually let you ride one ni no kuni style. At least thats how I see it.

Crazy prediction :

A mini dragon as a party member ( like repede ).

Argh make it happen !

It looks nice. I had hoped the main characters would look unorthodox, as far as JRPG character designs are concerned, but oh well. The wide open environments look beautiful.

Assuming costumes and attachments are also following the same design philosophy as Xillia and Xillia 2, it might be like Xillia 2 and the earrings are considered an extra accessory that can be removed.

Why is PS3 keep getting new games and a JRPG at that while the Wii and Xbox360 were abandoned like a year or two? I mean the Wii is a clear winner sales wise but why was it abandoned so quickly?

I remember reading an interview of Baba, and he said PS3 sells his games the most. Xbox 360 version doesn't push enough copies to make a port. I wish I could find you a source, it was a while back.
Also, I am a huge fan of Tales of series. Way back from SNES days, this is a day one purchase for me! :D

For some reason, all I can think is:

Tales of VZesptiria

The third-person perspective in the battles and in the overworld plus the lush environments remind me a bit of Xenoblade. Otherwise, so far it's a Tales-ass Tales game. We'll see!

Family of Heaven could be dragons. Who knows. And yeah, the use of vehicles would be pretty cool.

So going to gleam more insight I guess since I had to leave for work. I feel like Xillia's "open world" was just a huge experiment to test the waters and see how they can implement open world properly in a Tales game. Zestiria should be much better. Theoretically speaking...

After Asbel I thought they couldn't possible create an even more bland, generic main character. I thought wrong.

WTF, he looks ridiculously bland. Will pass on this. Sick of that trope and the story is never really good in Tales of games. Gameplay is fun, but not fun enough to carry me through yet another game.

Wow, battles are seamless now. Thumbs up from me.

Totally agree. I can't believe how boring and generic he looks.

I doubt Zestiria will be truly open world. I think the word Baba was looking for is semi-open or closed open, which makes it like Xenoblade but possibly with load times and screen transitions. Frankly, this is better for JRPG with standard linear story-telling anyway. Being too open can result in the main scenario to be less focused.

It won't be a true open world in the sense of Skyrim or AC for sure. I guess what I was trying to say was pseudo-open world. My bad. loll.

You're not going to make the argument that Tales games are known for their looks, are you?

That looks good. My biggest gripe is that I wish they'd go back to that more cartoony Vesperia look. Not that Xillia looks bad but I prefer how Vesperia looks.

Graphics are meh but when it is supposed to be the last PS3 game and it didn't seem to affect thousands of gamers for the previous games in Japan why bother ?
Improving the scale and the field of view was the right choice IMO, it's still way too early to judge how it will really look like (lol at the clipping on the trailer) but so far I'm ok with the choices they did, couldn't be worse than Xillia anyway.

I am tired of all those game featuring dragons and those stereotypical dragonworlds.
Why do all fantasy games have to feature dragons?
Because dragons are way cooler than any other fantasy creature?
How can you ask that?

And Tales aren't that Dragon heavy aside of some bosses

Tales games have generally been more summon spirit heavy then dragon heavy. Phantasia, eternia, symphonia, last part of vesperia, and xillia all use it as a major plot device

I laughed when I saw the main male, it's such a Fujishima design and you can just look at him and say, "Yes he is a tales main".

The main female is surprisingly good though.

Interesting bits are on-field combat and 'open world'. Been waiting forever to see how those active systems would be implemented on field.

World would probably me more Xenoblade-like, very large open areas that are strung together with a short corridor and a loading screen, than like Skyrim which is open world.

Can't wait to see the other cast members! Young girl, old guy, some kind of creature? How about another animal character again? Repede was awesome.
