Oh. That stuff don't bother me. The thing that bothers me is screen tearing. Really hard on the eyes. But low fps, or whatever is fine to me.

To each his own, but the one place it is egregiously unacceptable is battles. Those need to be a hard 60 or it feels like you're fighting underwater. It had a significant effect on the gameplay.

Giant empty field alert.

Looks great for a Tales Of game. I wonder if there will be party members? Looking at the battle system, it looks like he's alone (even the camera system makes it look like a lone character duel). I'm probably just looking into it too much, I'm sure there will be party members.

Really, are they still doing this split-designer shit

Just have one consistent aesthetic for the characters.

Yeah, it was a fun experiment when they first did it, but it's not something I was interested in seeing for the third time in a row. Boosts appeal and sales I guess.

Why would it? Xillia, Graces F ran great. Or am I missing something?

Didn't think Xillia ran that well, personally. Especially compared to previous games.

If this is getting rid of transitions and such I'm a little wary of what kind of compromises they'll probably have to make in terms of visuals or framerate. If it's too bad (or even if it gets a lot of complaints) and can really see them making a version that runs/performs better on the PS4
(though they'll probably make one anyway looking at their recycling/re-release habits since 2008)
.

I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now. Xillia and Xillia 2 were the first Tales games to feature larger worlds like that, so I can forgive the empty fields. Hopefully they've learned their lesson for this game. Hopefully.

Yeah. It could share some similarities with something like Kingdom Hearts or Infinite Undiscovery, where you have the angle like shown in the trailer but still have party members involved. I think the first couple graces trailers showed Asbel fighting by himself as well.

The trailer really reminds me of Xenoblade.

Game looks like something that will be up my alley.

Also, the main character looks like Link from Twilight Princess. Now you can't unsee it.

How can I start showing Namco my enthusiasm for faster localization?

Buying Xillia, Xillia 2 and Symphonia Chronicles is a start. Then you need to show enthusiasm!

In all seriousness? Tales of Symphonia's HD port and Tales of Xillia 2 come out next year. If those do well, I imagine there'll be a good chance of us getting Tales of Zestiria.

I doubt that they would have single player combat in the game outside of plot-relevant times for the character to be alone. Most Tales games have a time when the protagonist is alone.

It would go heavily against the Tales formula to not have a tightly knit party that develop and grow together. Tales games have characters in combat work as a team, also as much as in Chrono Trigger. And complementary abilities have been a part of Tales since Tales of Phantasia.

At the risk of invoking my username again. From what I understand about Japanese culture, there's a lot of focus on groups, and groups become like a "second family". Whether they're in school or in the workplace. That's probably why parties seem to be much more important and far more closely knit in Japanese RPGs than Western RPGs. Tales seems to be one of the strongest cases of this in the entire Japanese RPG genre.

I cannot think of another Japanese RPG franchise with as much character interaction and where a party seems like a "family" that is bonding together through an adventure, than Tales. Though other franchises certainly occasionally come close.

Hideo Baba has very strongly defended and promoted the traditions of Tales and does not appear interested in changing them. If there's anyone who seems to be a proponent of Tales traditions, it's Hideo Baba. And I'm thankful for that, I don't want Tales to change and lose its identity. I enjoy Tales for what it is, and its identity has made it my favourite Japanese RPG franchise of all time.

With that in mind, I don't think that single-character combat is going to be common in this game, and would probably be relegated to plot important events or the start of the game. They're probably just not wanting to reveal too many characters at this point. To build anticipation or for whatever reason.

Having single character combat would go against the focus of the part on Tales games. They're not just a "family" of sorts outside of the combat, but on the battlefield as well. That would go heavily against well loved and supported traditions of the Tales franchise, and I don't think that Hideo Baba would be for that.

Every time they reveal a new Tales game, they show just one character fighting, and people get worried that it'll be single-player combat. Every single time!

The battle system reminds me of Graces F with all the dodging left/right. I like that.

Oh yeah, they usually do show the main character fighting alone on the first few trailers. I knew I was over thinking it a bit.

I think we are getting the game regardless. The question is how much time will it take for the game to be localized. They sure could be faster.

From what I understand about Japanese culture

"Slay" is silly.

Threi or Thray is a much more name-like rendering of that kana.

This x 1,000,000
Slay is the worst.

I miss the days of really old-school English names. Lloyd...Luke... Stan. Why can't this guy's name be John? Is it a riveting name? Noooo.... But it is certainly less ridiculous (because, y'know, Tales of DRAGONS and a guy named SLAY is a "good match"?). xD

I kinda like the main character's design. His body seems broader than most main characters in other Tales games, which is kinda neat. The girl is cute too.

Hmm I can't say I'm in love with the character design/artstyle but the gameplay at least looks to be quite good.

As always with Tales games, I'll wait for impressions from Japan.

Those lifeless faces, ugh.

Yeah, that something I've always disliked about the designs in this series, and Dead or Alive as well. The faces look like lifeless dolls.

Dead or Alive 5 fixed that quite well for the DoA franchise. But unfortunately, things haven't changed with Zestiria. Oh well, maybe next time in Tales of PS4.

Just read about the story. I wonder how they continue to keep such an enthusiastic fanbase by literally doing the same shit over and over and over for the past like 4 games. At least we had two different teams before when they had Team Destiny with two different games styles.

I'm betting they make the character designs horribly generic and dull on purpose to milk people for DLC costumes. Brilliant actually.

I bought Xillia day one and will buy Xillia 2 the same way.... being honest I don't care for HD Remasters for the most part and I'm not interested in paying for two games that I already own and won't replay.

Holycrap this game looks phenomenal, that open field just looks great. Hopefully this game comes out no later than 2015.

Maybe because the games are fun despite the plot? Just a guess.

At the earliest this game will come early 2015 in the US. And that is pushing logical boundaries. Considering Xillia 2 localization is done I'm sure they're working on this right now or it'll be very soon.

EDIT: Pretty sure Kagari just became a Namco fangurl today.
