Duck Dynasty's Phil: Black People were happy pre-civil rights era, pre-welfare, etc..

Do they show the black kid on TV?

Now that I think about it... they hardly show any of the kids on there.

They only show his natural son and daughter for the most part, though all have been on at one time or the other. I don't think it's intentional, I just think they do not want to be on the show, Si's wife is never shown either due to that reason

I get the sense he has a very narrow minded view on the subject. His thoughts are if he didn't see it first hand, it probably wasn't a big issue. Obviously he is wrong, but I'm not going to get bent out of shape about it.

That comparison has been going on for a long time as a slippery slope argument against gay marriage/homosexuality in general. "Well if we allow two men to be together, why not a man and a dog?" It's ridiculous beyond words, yet it persists.

It persists because it makes sense when you don't think much about it or look much into it. It completely falls apart with even the most basic understanding of the subject but the people who espouse this view neither know or care to look into it... It's all kinds of terrible

Ignorant? Yes on both counts. Racist? Not by definition.

I saw a Duck Dynasty poster in a store a couple months ago and I'm still trying to figure out who the fuck would buy a Duck Dynasty poster.

'Duck Dynasty' Under Fire Following Star's Incendiary Anti-Gay Remarks

And it seems that the tide is already turning, considering the fact that once GLAAD issued its statement, Phil was quick to clarify — and soften— his previous remarks.

"I myself am a product of the '60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior," the TV star said in a statement released by A&E Wednesday. "My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the Bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other."

You get out in the boondocks and you realize all the smart people left years ago. Meth and crack have made inroads as well.
I'm not saying there are not decent folks living on dirt roads, but a lot of times you meet people who have given up.
No more local newspapers, news from the nearest Fox station, libraries closing, and no internet access stifle learning. .

The community of my country town goes nuts over this show. The one odd time I went to church this season, the sermon was opened by a clip from the show, urging people to take pride in their beliefs. Merch from the show is sold in almost every Christian marketplace. Drives me nuts when there's so much ignorance behind it.

Very sad. I will watch the show when I catch it on, so maybe I'm part of the problem. But the show does not endorse these sentiments.

Sounds like most Urban America as well, hell, sounds like America in general. It is what it is, having lived in both ultra rural areas in deep south Louisiana as well as bigger urban areas like Denver, once you really start to dig deep into both on an person to person level the differences are negligible at best.

Watched an episode of this once, I thought it was supposed to be like Meerkat Manor or something. Boy was I wrong, it's just like those stupid pawn shop/tow truck shows that seem to be really popular right now.

I'm tellin' ya... double-down, Phil. As soon as you apologize, you are admitting you hate blacks and hastening your show's decline! (Or so I thought, but I guess Dog's groveling actually got his show back.)

I'm tired of seeing their faces plastered all over every Walmart I walk into. They even have a section dedicated to their merchandise with a TV playing the show 24/7. I don't think there's anything they haven't licensed their name to by now.

Makes me wonder if a vast majority of rich white business owners think this way.

"Them colored's were happy even when we din't pay them back then. Why they complainin' now?"

And these guys on the show are actually college-educated.

Phil On Why He Voted Romney in 2012
“If I’m lost at three o’clock in a major metropolitan area...I ask myself: Where would I rather be trying to walk with my wife and children? One of the guys who’s running for president is out of Chicago, Illinois, and the other one is from Salt Lake City, Utah. [Editor’s note: Romney is from Boston, not Salt Lake City.] Where would I rather be turned around at three o’clock in the morning? I opted for Salt Lake City. I think it would be safer.”

Truly this is the best way to decide our next president.

Deep south Louisiana is north louisiana. Southern louisiana is where all the growth and population is and its a different place than northern la.

That wasn't exactly my point, my point is that living in both rural and urban areas, 90% of the people I came into contact at their core had the same issues, ideologies, messed up opinions, etc, the differences between the two aren't as great as presupposed. As to the level of backwardness between North and South Louisiana, well we have Livingston Parish down here. Ehhhh!!!
