Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

Wow, people agree with me on the graphics/artstyle!

Still can't get over Sonic's face.

sonic's face is bugging me for the same exact reason, whenever he grins like that, the face starts looking all weird due to how the mouth covers some of the eye area

Those weren't arguments. Don't defend someone with such silliness.

now where did i say those were arguments? lol i'm implying that your "Salt" posts are pointless

also you cant tell me what to do ( ◜◡^)

Nintendo what is wrong with you? How dare you sexualize my princess Peach!

She should look like this.

Now look what she looks like!

Those breasts are way too big and she is dressed in a very very bad way! This offends me so much!

Their desire for a character to be removed isn't just a desire for a character to be removed and nothing more, it's a desire for a character to be removed so that resources can be put towards a character they want more.

Again, the problem is that they view entries as "franchise representatives" than characters themselves. That makes the characters less "personal" and feels more like a justification of something to be removed and have their own favorite character be in while sounding "justified".

Those still aren't bigger than Smash Bros. U and I'm fully aware of that game.

I love how worked up you guys get over criticism. It really shows off that this thread cannot be used for discussion but only petty immature squabbles.

I also remember your posts in particular in the past and I know what kind of stuff you're interested in, so you have no place mocking others when your keyboard is probably sticky from viewing the Mario Wiki for too long.

Characters aren't solely representatives of their franchises, but it is at least an aspect of their worth. If we placed no value at all on the franchise and placed value instead solely on the character, then Pokemon and Mario would have about 4/5ths of the characters between them, given that even fairly minor Mario characters like Daisy probably have a larger following and Nintendo cultural awareness than even the main character from a smaller series like F-Zero.

Shh... my Fire Emblem waifu's will hear you. Don't let them know I'm cheating on them!

Most of what I type usually has a hint of joking sarcasm that you can't obviously detect.

Oh I know that franchise representatives are there through characters, but it's mostly secondary (as in, you want Pit in because you want the character, not because we need a Kid Icarus rep, but as it happens, he is a Kid Icarus rep so it's a win-win). That's what I get.

With that said, that has been sorta a norm since 64, where bigger franchises get more of the pie (2 Mario and Pokemon)

to be fair your post did came across as mocking the argument in a rude way

but let's move on and talk about how alt colors should be in daily pics for once! where are they sakurai?!

(wall of text and screenshots) ...

You are over-thinking most of this stuff imo, but I'm fine with it.

I just want to add an important thing: Smash Brothers (N64) was clearly a battle of figures (watch the intro movie), and I think in Sakurai's mind it always is figures, not the actual characters who are fighting. It sort of "explains" why you have all those characters from all those differents worlds together. Trophees were also important in Brawl and Melee. Those are your actual fighters in the "real" game world, fighting each other (Brawls trophees with stickers on it were your characters in Subspace Emissary).

Anyway, to me it explains the art direction who consists of "lifting" and polishing models just like figs, and try to have a more coherent design among all those different characters.
Also, in a way, explains the sexualisation of the female characters, just like japanese anime characters figs. But, like I said, I think you're over thinking this. Breast inflation in Smash has nothing to do with Soul Calibur inflation levels, even if NamcoBandai artists are trying to do it.

As opposed to arguing over the cup size of peach in super smash brothers. I still don't see where you're getting this 2-3 cup sizes bigger either in fact i don't see any difference. I could maybe see an argument like this being made about samus but peach doesn't look bisexual at all especially compared to what she looks like in other nintendo franchises.

Complaining about sexualization with a kawaii blushing loli avatar.

Would it be better if they were just flat-chested and uguu-ing?

I agree with your other points though, especially DK's huge downgrade from his Retro version.

The only reason why Yoshi hasn't been shown yet is because he is still recovering from his breast augmentation.

Not a good idea for Peach to have her boobs smaller with Bowser going after loli fairies instead. She needs to get implants now. Should be able to get them easy being a princess and all that.

Laying all those eggs over the years took it's toll on him.

I honestly didn't want this to happen... I just disagreed :(

Anyway, about alt costumes, I assume the different colours of Luma is a random thing rather then a correlation with Rosalina.

It's still possible that Nintendog could be playable character. ;)

To be fair those games weren't fit for playable reps until Sakurai decided he wanted Villager.

He really want Villager to be in Brawl but they couldn't get it work or director is against his inclusion in Brawl. I don't remember why.

Melee had a sort of slick techno aesthetic to it.
Brawl had a grittier, muted aesthetic to it (which was a little awkward with Toon Link in particular).
SSB4 has an action figure aesthetic that manages to make all these different characters look cohesive. It fits Toon Link and Rosalina equally well.

Best looking style yet.

Exactly, I really like action figure aesthetic, and that picture is easily one of my favorite picture from Daily Image.

What is the most plausible scenario?

A) Sakurai thinks Punch Out!! is deserving of a stage but not a character

B) Sakurai decided to make a random boxing ring stage that looks like a certain Wii game

C) Sakurai has put Little Mac in the game and the boxing ring stage is his

D) All of the above

I really hope that it's D.

It will probably be called Smash Circuit, much like how the Animal Crossing stage in Brawl was called Smashville. Someone here once illustrated all the exacting details shared between the boxing arena in SSB4 and the one in Punch-Out. If I recall correctly, even the lights and decals lined up the same.

But more to the point: Sakurai isn't going to make a boxing arena level in a game celebrating the pantheon of Nintendo franchises and then not include Little Mac, a character who unlike Pictochat or Electroplankton is humanoid and perfectly able-bodied to fight.

Punch-Out Ring Stage
Whenever I would post tidbits about this, I got a couple of requests to make this its own thread, so I decided to go ahead go through with it.

So, the boxing ring stage. You've seen it, I'm sure. Some people aren't exactly sure if it's a Punch Out related stage, if it's a Kirby themed stage, or just a generic new boxing ring stage just for kicks. Well, I'm gonna tell you that this stage is a Punch Out themed stage for a multitude of reasons. So let's begin I guess...

First off, the audience is human, so you can rule out any possibility that this is a Kirby themed stage (all Kirby boxing rings have Kirby characters instead). The marquee's in the background are all dot styled, which is consistent with the marquees in Punch Out Wii, and even the title screen and round indicators for Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

Various dot styled marquee screens: http://i.imgur.com/sgmo0ru.png

All logos in Punch Out Wii are adorned with clusters of stars, which are usually in 3's because triple star punches are the most powerful punch in the game, as well as the "leaf vines" on the sides (forgive me; I don't know the term for this) and a giant star somewhere in the middle. The logo in the ring, while being smash themed, shares all of these characteristics.

The ring ropes are also identical in both color and configuration as the Major Circuit ring in Punch Out Wii. Similarly, the corners are all identical colors and positions as the Punch Out Wii corners. The logo in Smash also features a ribbon at the top, which is a direct throwback to the World Circuit ribbon at the top and bottom of the logo.

Also, as a random tidbit, the ribbon in the Smash Punch Out stage says "CHAMPIONSHIP" on it, which is probably because if it straight up said "Major Circuit" on it, it would be flat out obvious. Plus since Smash Bros doesn't have "circuits", championship makes more sense in the context of the game.

The final fight in Punch Out Wii, Mr. Sandman, has a very particular entrance for both his Title Defense and Contender fights. He approaches the ring while there's a green laser light show that goes on behind him. Well, check this out...

Same green laser show.

But yeah, there are an abundance of intentional details that suggest this stage is designed to be a Punch Out stage. There may be a few details that I'm missing, but those were all the details I seemed to notice. Unsure if this confirms Mac being a character, but at the very least there's a stage from the Punch Out series in the game.

Should've thrown a good WTF character in there if that's the case.

I would've said the Style Savvy avatar was in.

I think I actually said same thing when Wii Fit Trainer got confirmed. I'm okay with Style Savvy being in the game where she can attack people with clothes. :P

It was Sakurai's plan all along. He's trying to tear Nintendo fans apart so that the company will fail and he won't have to make any more Smash games.

Probably, and congratulations on your member.

Don't forget that the dot-matrix display has the same color scheme as the Punch Out!! Wii logo.

huh good eyes there

also wow we're almost already at OT4...

Indeed, I'm waiting for some kind of clever subtitle for Thread #4.

Thank you for starting my morning off with a good laugh. Man, that grasping sexualization theory... that had me rolling. Seriously, you have to be actively looking for things to complain about. Skintight Rosalina... hahahaha

Sure, it's a balancing act. However, that doesn't mean people who argue "x franchise is over-represented" are wrong. It's simply a question of whether they value other facets of a character's representation more or less than the facet of that character which is franchise representation.
