Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

I'm half expecting Sakurai to be a troll tomorrow and announce Jigglypuff or Pokemon Trainer since we're all expecting Zelda.

Well he could do it to coincide with the release of Pokemon Bank/Transporter (even thought those Pokemon are all Kalos Native)

Pic of the day. Yellow characters.

Dem sharp edges.

Nobody!

Lol, you're pretty adamant about that. Not even one huh? With Sakurai and his team combing over the list of previous AT's to determine this games' selection, I highly doubt none of them jumped out at them with potential.

Honestly be a good rep of Mario Sports/Party games.
Wouldn't he just be perfect? Baseball pitch for a ranged attack, bat for side smash, good club for down smash, tennis racket for standard attack, kart for side special (similar to Wario's motorcycle), air swim for recovery move, etc. I need it.

Well, I'm definitely getting the 3DS version now. Completely unexpectedly, I received a 3DS XL, A Link Between Worlds, and Pokémon X as Christmas gifts. They'll take me a while to finish, but I'm thinking about getting a third game, and I can't decide between Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Any suggestions?

All of them are high quality games.
Mario Kart 7 in my opinion is much better but you can do no wrong with any of them.
All of them deserve a purchase.

Got The Wonderful 101 and played for a few hours... Goddamn this series better get a character into Smash, so much potential.

Oh and Ryce, all of those games are worth buying but I'd recommend Kid Icarus first just because it is really freaking good and there is no other game quite like it.

KID ICARUS

Best 3DS game, made by Sakurai! DO IT

KI:U if you prefer actiony shooty games and AC:NL if you're interested in it at all are the most bang for your buck. Both of them are absurdly packed with content.

He makes so much sense, but I have a feeling he won't be in the game. We already got a Mario newcomer.

For the life of me I can't understand why anyone would want Toad playable.

There are plenty of abilities and ideas to make him a fun character from his many appearances over the years. More move set potential in him than Waluigi, Bowser Jr., and hell even Rosalina. (Luma is the real star of that character, a lot of the rest of Rosalina's character are Galaxy gameplay mechanics borrowed from the Mario Bros.)

It randomly occurs to me that if Sakurai wants to add more females and more villains, Medusa might make the cut.

And speaking of villains, if Ridley isn't too big then what's stopping Andross?

I'm not talking about how to make him work, I know how to. What I don't understand is why.

Kid Icarus Uprising of course
ESPECIALLY if you already have a Wii U or plan to get one when Mario Kart 8 comes out

Nah I don't want Medusa.

And nope, Ridley will always be too big. And since Andross was a stage hazard, Ridley too shall meet the same fate.

One of the most iconic Mario characters who's been around since the beginning and is the last original member left out of Smash. Represents both classic (SMB2) and modern (NSMB and 3D series) Mario games to even the obscure. (Wario's Woods if Sakurai wants to do it)

For the record I'm very happy about Rosalina's inclusion of Galaxy mechanics because I love those games but I never saw anything interesting about her herself until Sakurai showed the Luma mechanic. Toad's also an EAD darling like Rosalina considering two playable Toads in both NSMB Wii/U and SM3DW.

It seems Uprising is the favorite, but I'm worried about the control scheme. I'm a lefty and I remember the plastic stand scaring me away from the game for a while.

Stop.

You know that isn't true.

He's just hands and head usually. I'd say that was his major roadblock.

Forget Toad, they should put in Captain Toad. He can't jump so he'd be the most hardcore character.

I was expecting this....

I am so disappointed.

I will not let you drag me into that one, sir....

Stop.

You know that isn't true.

It is, I can point to specific appearances Toad made and put those moves into a hypothetical fighting game character from SMB2, NSMB, 3D World, and even a puzzle game. I can't do that with Jr., for instance everyone wants him to use the paintbrush but what could it even do? All Jr. really did in Sunshine was impersonate Mario and draw graffiti. He didn't draw enemies on walls that came to life or erase things out of existence. He was simply a vandal that did nothing but pollute everything and pin blame on Mario.
