Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

What's stopping Nintendo from using Banjo, Conker and Joanna Dark as "3rd party" characters? I mean, in reality it's as absurd as Snake, especially with the fact that Rare still made GBA/DS games anyway. Likewise like Snake, I don't think it would work particularly for or against either party. Nintendo weren't scared of people rushing out to buy a PS3 for the next Metal Gear.

Plus, in the "gaming world" (to you and me) they wouldn't feel like third party characters anyway, so I wouldn't see it as Smash having 7 third party slots taken up when I look at the character select screen. They would fit right in (as long as Nintendo are allowed to design them how they wish).

So, realistically, whats stopping Nintendo and Microsoft from putting rivalry aside for a second, and for the good of the gaming world using these three characters as third party ones? Isn't it a win-win situation?

How is helping sales of a rival's game helpful to Microsoft? This post reads like a bad joke.

we've seen mario's? and it isnt "appears" she is glowing like its her FS and saurai outright confirms it in the developer video

That's cool. Was going through the old pictures and saw the one with the male trainer. Was thinking maybe it's part of her FS but if not then maybe he's his own character or alt-costumes are in (even though there's an article in the OP that says otherwise).

If it helps both sides, why not? You can't predict who it will help more.

Because of the liscencing.

Xbox will make nintendo pay out the bum for.... to be quite honest, Forgotten irrelevant characters characters. It wouldn't even be worth the money. Banjo Conker and Joanna are far from household names. And would be a pain to pay for just to get into smash. Because some people have nostalgia, ( that I would argue is misplaced , besides Joanna)

Really? I recall seeing a shot where you could see the remnants of Mario's Final Smash Flames.

I could definitely be wrong here. I don't remember ever seeing those flames either, and I'm hoping that's the case so that there's a remote possiblity that they rethink the generic "Mario Finale". After seeing the return of FLUDD, though, it'll probably be Mario Finale 2: Revenge of the Finale instead of him growing to giant 8-bit proportions =(

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts received huge attention and hype when it was announced, but when the game came out it was received lukewarmly due to the emphasis on car-designing, change of direction, and the few, relatively-deserted worlds. I don't know if Smash could save our favourite bear and breegull =( I'd love to see them return, but Rare is pretty content with making Kinect Sports Umpteenth. I want to BELIEVE in Threeie... That's a tangent, sorry. Basically, Microsoft payed for the bear and breegull, but bear and breegull didn't deliver quite as well as was anticipated. Some could argue that N&B shot what chances they have of returning,, especially considering that Rare is definitely not who they once were. MS will, stubbornly, not let anyone play with its toys and would rather ruin/fix it on their own.

I need to break character right here and tell you this shit is dumb.

So we're on official thread 4, what's the gaf record for highest thread number (for any game), out of curiosity? I assume brawl wasn't too shabby, but what game has more longstanding hype than smash that has a really high number?

I don't know which thread has the highest thread/post number, but I know that Brawl is the reason we have the 400 page limit we have now, as the Brawl thread reached 1272 pages and was literally too big to move to the Forum Archive.

Edit: I just did the math real quick, and the SSB4 threads are about to surpass the Brawl thread in number of posts (SSB4:62152, Brawl:63958).

any confirmation on the Wii U Pro Controller support?

I already have two... thinking if I should get another 1 or 2 for the full 4player madness
(playing smash with the Gamepad would be weird..)

I don't think it's been confirmed yet, but considering that Smash is mainly a local party game and that Brawl supported every controller under the sun, I'd be shocked if it didn't support it.

Yeah.

Speaking of controllers, has anyone tried something like modding a Pro Controller into a GCN Controller shell? Playing Smash on anything else would just be unnatural to me...

Feels weird without a pic to brighten up
I mean ruin
my morning. It's gonna be a long day. ;_;

Easiest course of action will be a GCN->Classic Controller adapter. That's assuming CC is supported, but it seems likely enough.

That's pretty amazing. I assume the reason we're about to surpass brawl is because gaf has way more members than it did back then.

Nope, we had more posts than Brawl now. I counted all of brawl threads' posts and SSB4 threads' so we already surpassed the numbers now. You can check my OP for list of almost all post-E3 SSB4 threads but I didn't list all pre-E3 SSB4 threads.

Edited: Rock Band OT had 140k before it got locked.

I just had a brilliant idea. Letting someone with the GamePad control stage hazards and item spawning and such.
Yeah, many people including me really want to see that happening but I doubt that they would input this mode in the game. :(

Bahahaha, that's amazing :D

Bonus fact: Halo 3 OT had a similar problem because it was over 100K by the time it was done.

When I started rounding up links for all of the past Halo threads for OT archival purposes, I found that we have roughly 54 OTs, at least two of which are active, provided you count Halo 3's megathread as 5 OTs. I think it's close to the highest OT count of any GAF community, save for maybe the Madden ones. Our fastest burn-through of a complete 20,000 posts was nineteen days.
