What's the story with Beast Wars?

I turned 13 in 2000. Check your calculator, heh. I was 10 in 1997 and definitely watched some cartoons through fifth grade or so (age 11/12)..

So shows like Weekenders which started in 1999 you would've been 12-16 for it's run. Not saying anything bad but it's pretty clear that with Pokemon, Weekenders and Captain Planet gone that most of the people voting here were a bit older than the demo for these shows and so either didn't watch them or thought they were "kiddy" like shows such as the stuff on Disney, Nick and cartoon Network seem to us today.

As much as I used to like Johnny Bravo, I can't see it making it to the top ten. As with Doug and Goof Troop.

And as much as it pains me to say it, Batman Beyond. That show was so good, but it's probably going to get killed before the top ten.

Beast Wars is still missing from the list

Never forget.

  • Weekenders got killed more hardly than any other show since Rocket Power in this thread, I think. People of all ages seem to remember it being less than worthy, heh.
  • Pokémon was huge when I was in grade school. I knew plenty of kids in elementary who had their cards taken away during classes for trading them, etc. I was the movie in theaters opening weekend and had Yellow on my purple GB Color.
  • Captain Planet started in 1990 and ran until 1996, when I was 3-9 years old. If I'm not "the right age" for that show, or whatever rationale you're trying to explain, I don't know who is.

What's the list down to- 37 or 38 shows? Can the OP clarify what's up with Beast Wars?

Not really. It got killed by a combination of "It's from '99 doesn't count," "I never actually watched it," "It looks like it HAS to be bad," and "Oh look, dogpile, might as well join in and make sure the show I like survives"

Yeah it was a circlejerk vote led by people who were too old for the show.

I joined in to make sure that Hey! Arnold wasn't killed after two people both voted to save Weekenders made double kills on Arnold. Weekenders was actually a pretty decent show from the episode I watched recently as a sampler.

It's a dog eat dog thread, and Arnold is a great show.

Perfectly valid, I was simply pointing out that his statement was factually wrong.

Oh boo hoo.

Don't get pissy at me just because I'm right.

Hey, want to know who hasn't voted this round yet?

Just sayin'.

I think you have the pissiness mixed up, heh. You're the one whining still.

Dude, you're kind of being an asshole. The three shows I actually want to win haven't even been threatened yet and only one show that I really liked has been eliminated. My pointing out that you made a factually incorrect statement and you bitching about it does not constitute whining on my part.

Voting on cartoons on Neogaf.

Serious business.

Yeah I'm kind of done with this whole thing now. It was fun when people were giving legit reasons but once "I didn't watch it", "Doesn't count as a 90s show", "I was too old for it" became legit reasons I was done. I tried to save Weekenders because as a kid that was an awesome saturday morning cartoon and everyone I was friends with watched it and loved it but alas, the wrath of angsty teens struck it down. It was fun everyone!

Even if those people weren't actually teenagers in the 90s, heh.

Clearly you think so, Mr. "Let's Organize a Not-So-Secret Alliance Network to Make Sure Only the Cartoons the DESERVE to be there Make it to the Final 15"

Dude, it's the Cartoon Survivor Thread.

That's the entire fun of it. Lighten up, alright?

oh crap. Totally forgot about Beast Wars. It'll be added into consideration for next round.
Number of shows left is 38.
Also calm down guys. This is supposed to be a fun thread. Although I am loving the drama that is ensuing.

Awesome.

It's feeling faster than I expected. 26 down, 38 to go. Beast Wars got a few free passes, but I think it's safe to say it would have made it through unscathed. It was a good show.

I am not the one who started throwing out insults in a thread about voting for cartoons and then wanted to fall back on the old "you're taking this too seriously" when someone called them out on being a dick.

I'm pretty sure you were the one calling me an asshole after I pointed out I wasn't a teenager in the 90s... but it's probably best to just chill out at this point and move on.

Hey, Beast Wars is back on. You should be happy!

JESUS CHRIST Guys.
Can y'all just chill out?
I wanted this thread to be fun.
Let's not be angry over stupid technicalities like being too old or too young for a show.

Beast Wars is the only Transformers cartoon I've ever actually watched. It was pretty good from a story stand point. Not so much visually.

Amen.

You think so? Not even for the writing? I didn't watch a ton of it, but I remember the two clans having some neat "politics" compared to the other Transformers shows.

I have no idea what the story was, but the CGI is as basic and terrible as CGI can possibly get.

If the visuals are so bad that I can't get to the story, that's a bad show IMO.

Oh it is. It is.

Indeed.

Fair enough. Maybe I wont rewatched some... it was on Netflix a few years back, right?

What would you say aged better, visually: Reboot or Beast Wars?

Oh man, i'm loving this! Adder, I'm sorry about your Ahh! Real monsters getting voted out so early looking back on it it was a mistake. That show was legit.

Call me crazy... but I still kind of dig the look.

Nostalgia man. It's what this thread is fueled on.

I remember not being impressed back then, so there's none of that for me. I know what you mean though. This GIF is probably as good as BW looks since it's closeups of the main characters and there's no hideous background to look at.

New poster here, born in 86, and I pretty much started watching cartoons in 90 and stopped in 99.

Kill: Eek! the Cat
Kill: Eek! the Cat
Save: Doug

I told myself that I wouldn't be killing shows I haven't seen over shows that I did see and didn't like, but I've made two exceptions to that rule, and Eek! is the big one. I despised this show as a kid without ever seeing an episode. It has to go.

Ren and Stimpy is the second exception, but on the other end of things. I watched it as a kid, really didn't like it, but I have enough respect for it that it's not going until the truly mediocre is gone.

I saved Doug. It is a really great show, and held up well for me when I rewatched the pilot a few years ago. The characters are amazing, and the plots are the perfect blend of outrageousness, creativity, and groundedness. It would be a huge disservice to kill this one so soon.

Lower-res GIFs usually do nostalgia a lot of favors, too.

One of the things I remember from Reboot is there's an episode where a character based on Ash from Evil Dead/Army of Darkness makes an appearance.

I like your style. I have to agree on Doug and I respect your approach to Ren & Stimpy.

Hey, wait- you watched cartoons in 1999?! That'd make you an awkward teena-
(kidding)
