The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

Need help with something else .

What is is in your opinion the best perk overhaul mod?

Additional : will i get problems with it if i already got a few perks from the vanilla game ?

SPERG, it will migrate your characters, no matter their level and experience, to the SPERG system when you load it. SPERG will tell you it's doing this and when it is complete.

You should try SkyUI paired with better message boxes.

This. Any game without SKSE and SkyUI might as well be vanilla.

I can't understand people's problems with SKSE. Either rename it tesv.exe and call it a day, or click on the skse_loader icon on your desktop instead of the Skyrim one. There are no extra steps, nothing else is required except extracting the files into your Skyrim folder. You aren't having to click more or anything, it's exactly the same, just a different icon. Delete your old one if that bothers you.

I really need to wrap my head around this idea, myself. I just started playing on PC a few weeks ago and I fear I've gone crazy with mods - constantly installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, I can only imagine it's had a negative effect on my game. I really can't seem to make up my mind, I'm spoiled by choice.

Is it bad if I've installed and uninstalled both Skyre and Requiem on a single installation of Skyrim? If I'm not using either one currently do I need to worry about them effecting my game?

Despite what others have told you, the truth is that this is in fact bad. Any mod that installs scripts, or makes major changes to anything(this can include house mods and vanilla house replacers, but excludes texture packs for the most part), will stay in your game permanently the moment you save with them installed. This is why many mods include an MCM menu with the option to uninstall. This is as close to a clean uninstall as you will get. The moment you save. those mods, and all they change, are tied to that save.

If the mods in question(both overhauls that make numerous changes to not just scripts but damn near everything) didn't come with an uninstall option, or if you didn't use the option or follow their uninstall procedures( normally found on the description page) the chances are that your save game is tainted. The most obvious way to check is when you loaded the save did it say you were missing things? If it did, then it's tainted. Wyre Bash can confirm this as well.

"Clean saves" are little more than a myth, everything may work fine for a time, but eventually it will bloat or corrupt.

I'm very much a mod-noob, so I need a bit of a hand getting my ENB working like I would like. My friend walked me through getting the ENB mod working in the first place, but he gave me a very over saturated setting and I want a setting that's a bit more toned down and subtle, yet still impressive and different. Can someone link me to a good ENB setting and maybe help me get it installed? My other mods are all done through Steam Workshop so I don't know the ins and outs of modding the files quite yet.

You probably have already heard this, but ENB's are truly up to individual tastes. Best thing to do is go to the Nexus, type in ENB in the search and just start browsing. Some ENB's I used to use are Sharpshooters which is good all around, Bleak for a dark foreboding atmosphere, Jade was really saturated, Opethfeldt, K ENB, and I finally settled on Realvision Fantasy Version. It's honestly up to you and what you want/like.

One other thing : i just used tes5edit to clean my master files but should i clean all my mods or is it not necessary ?

(Obviously excluding mods that require those dirty edits to function properly like the convenient horses mod .)

You really shouldn't clean mods, any of them. If they aren't being updated anymore, then give it a go, but if the mod author is even remotely active ask them to do it and reupload it. Many mods were made before TES5EDIT was in use, and many mods require their dirty edits to function. Be careful. You can always uninstall and reinstall, but breaking things is never good.

Khajiit Speak is easily in my top 5 mods of all time. Great little mod that makes a world of difference for hardcore roleplayers. The dialogue is so well-written, too.

Yeah I tried cleaning all my mods once.
One of them was the Unofficial Skyrim patch.
Next thing I know I can't get past the intro without crashing.

Haha...the intro. I haven't seen Skyrim's intro since I played on the 360. Alternate Start is such an amazing little mod.

And right there is my number one mod of all time.

That mod give you a few choices. You be a bandit and start at valtheims keep, Hunter that starts out near Helgen plus a few others.

I noticed a couple of the alternate starts will plop you down in a different place sometimes. Choosing to be an outlaw will bring you to Valtheim, but I've also ended up in the Rift (in the bandit camp where the guy leads you into an ambush). Similarly choosing the left for dead option has led to me ending up in a couple different locations.

The coolest starts are the race-exclusive ones. Solstheim refugee for Dunmer, stronghold for Orc, caravan guard for Khajiit, dock worker for Argonian, Forsworn for Breton, Alik'r for Redguard, Thalmor for High Elf. I'm not sure Imperials, Nords, or Wood Elves get them.

.

If you watched gophers vids you should have known that cleaning either your Skyrim master file and/or any of the unofficial patches would be a very bad idea.

If I don't like any of the choices presented, is the standard start also available?

We're talking about Live Another Life, right? You can pick what start you want. My first character began the game normally, as a prisoner picked up on the border of Cyrodiil. My second character is a Dark Elf squatting in the abandoned house in Raven Rock on Solstheim, who decided to travel to Skyrim to get rich there.

I noticed the game has some incredibly annoying background noise while playing with my new 2.1. speakers. It's not there when the game is paused, only when it's running.

Started playing it again lately and enjoying it very much. Requiem mod changed a lot and new compatible mods like Immersive Patrols add tons of life to the world.

Combat is very hard and melee is satisfying, because of that :)
Here is short video of my few attempts to kill two bandits!

Clearing whole bandit camps is very difficult, but its also rewarding.

Oops? I was reading something else. I guess it turned out to be very bad info.

Oh well. Losing characters only hurts because of how long it takes for me to design them.
Sometimes I feel like I'm playing Style Savvy: Skyrim. I'm more obsessed with make-up & lighting than questing.

The parts to my gaming PC that I just ordered should be here any minute now.

This is a game I tried to play on PS3, but after seeing the mods, I waited until I finally just decided to dive into PC gaming.

What are the absolute must-have mods for gameplay and graphics? Thanks!

It's good that you like it. I guess I just don't see it. You are supposed to be the Dovahkiin, able to shout people apart with your voice and yet two bandits in hide just gave you the fight of your life. You had to kite them for almost two minutes, died multiple times, mostly to one shots, despite being fully armored. And yet you are the slayer of dragons? Different strokes indeed. I don't know what this adds that makes it good. It basically makes every bandit and wolf encounter a boss fight and that's not good. That looked like needless tedium to me.

It would be different, if the battle system allowed Legolas levels of acrobatic feats and movements, making you able to deftly avoid every incoming shot while delivering death, but it isn't anything close to that. Instead Requiem adds a structure that the combat mechanics can't support and this is the result: Kiting enemies as mundane as bandits, little more than cannon fodder, for several minutes.

As You can see, i'm only lvl 2. In Requiem skills and perks matter a lot, by the time You are lvl 10, You can destroy them easily.
On my old character year ago, i would just summon Flame Atronach and he would just one shot them :) Btw if You skill into Ranged combat, You can one shot them with bow :)
On my current char i'm level 6 and i basically spawn Ghost Wolf and kill bandits quite easily from flank or behind, i also have additional point into two handed combat, so i'm better at it. Archers though are really hard to deal with from the distance :)

Slaying dragons is other thing though, You really need tons of skills to kill them.

List in this video is pretty good from gameplay standpoint. Just skip Civil War and Dragon Combat Overhaul. I had problems with this SkyTEST Realistic Anim + Predators, so i dont recommend installing it.

In terms of graphical updates, its too much to cover.

I prefer random alternate start. So amazing and the first few hours of the game is just riveting. Pack that on with frostfall and your suddenly experiencing a fallout like scenario where you wake up in a strange, frozen (hopefully not) tundra.

Has anyone tried that tropical skyrim? How is it?

I feel the same way. Requiem is great if you want to roleplay as sort of "coming into his own" story of a total weakling honing his skills and eventually becoming a mighty warrior. But if your character has any degree of backstory involving prowess in any one area it's simply impossible to suspend your disbelief that they fell to the likes of a mudcrab.

I guess Requim is only for people who literally pass out if they aren't in fear of dying every waking moment.

. I like some of the things they do with unleveled enemy tiers. When you’re fighting a Dragon Priest or a Dwemer Centurion you should feel like this thing can end you in a second if you let it. When you’re fighting a dragon you should feel like you’re fighting a semi-divine being that can bring a whole army to its knees. But when you’re fighting a skeever, wolf, mudcrab, or bandit…if you’re clad in heavy armor, wielding a greatsword, and commanding the Thu’um you shouldn’t have to constantly feel like you’re in the fight of your life. In many ways I feel the “realism” they strove for was unrealistic in its brutality. Why does an arrow to the knee hurt more than getting your legs swept out from under you by a greatsword? Why does the player have range penalties applied to their archery but not the enemy? Do they really expect us to believe this crappy bandit is a better shot than my Wood Elf? Lots of weird indescrepencies. Thankfully Deadly Dragons and Deadly Monsters can give you that extra edge to certain enemies while ignoring others. I’d suggest those mods plus an enemy AI overhaul to make combat challenging but believably so.

Spent a good part of the night playing around with the facial expressions engine. Eventually when the fatigue washed over me and I couldn't stay awake, I feel asleep and had a dream about manipulating/staggering saves in order to keep the mod I installed from destroying my progress. I woke up and it was 4 in the morning.

Nah, if You are in the stage of having Shouts, bandits are a joke.
And heavy armor is awesome in Requiem, but it requires perks. Also high level Mages are gods to bandits.
Its very similar to Baldurs Gate or Morrowind, on low levels You are very weak, but as You gain levels, You get very powerful.

They do have range penalties. If You have perks allocated into archery You shot better than they do.

Tried installing an ENB and the performance hit just wasn't worth it.

From 60+ FPS in the middle of a civil war to sub-30 in an empty room.

I don't remember the name but there are a few enb that doesn't take a lot of resources. Of course those won't have any amazing filtering effects you see in other enb. A lot of HD texture require enb to work, so I suggest you to find one that runs at an acceptable performance.

Currently trying to find a way to get a more or less constant 60fps with an ENB on a gtx 660. Right now it seems the biggest drain is caused by transparency, so grass causes a big hit but I'm not sure exactly why.

So it seems I can't edit posts. Odd.

Anyway, can someone explain to me why Skyrim feels like such a slideshow at 30 fps compared to other games, and how I might go about fixing it?

How performance hungry is RealVisionENB?

on my 660 : full version (all options enabled) 30 fps with drops to 25fps

performance version : 50 fps.

but basically, the biggest drain on the prerformane are Dof , Sao and definitely water parallax.

play around and switch those off untill you are satisfied.

What FPS do you usually run with?

The Realvision ENB page says that the 660 is the base requirement, so I guess with something more powerful the FPS would be better.

They do have range penalties. If You have perks allocated into archery You shot better than they do.

Nah, they were crackshots from a quarter mile away while my arrows start with a pathetic arc that does next to zero damage from the same distance. I realize that feature could be turned off in the MCM but if I'm going to critique a mod I prefer to critique the whole package. As I said I realize they were trying to simulate the progression from weakling to slightly stronger weakling (and I think they nailed it), but the approach just wasn't for me. I prefer to take perks that make me stronger, not incrementally less awful. I definitely get the appeal of Requiem, but it's not something I imagine myself doing a whole playthrough with.

Nailed it. Couldn't of said it better myself.

Realvision, as with all enb's, hits performance pretty hard depending on settings. All of which you can turn off and on by hitting Shift+enter. So really the answer is as much or as little as you want.

I'm not a guy who can game on a 660 though. Just isn't me. The 7970 ghz I had chewed through k-enb/realvision/bleak/etc and still delivered 50-60. The gtx 780 ghz that I have now is a monster. It's VRAM doesn't allow me to install as many high res textures, but it delivers a rock solid 60fps, no matter what enb I use.

Can't wait for my 780 ti clasified to arrive.

Realvision at full settings + downsampling + high framerate = godtier.

I love the nightmare mod to increase enemy spawns because it never felt right that in those massive Nord ruins there where so few draugr .

First time i was surprised when i had 10 of them bum rush me .

RealVision makes the colors of certain things very bright on my computer, such as the flowers outside of Whiterun, which are so orange they're practically neon. Does it look like that for anyone else or is it possible I messed something up during the installation of RV and its dozens of recommended mods? Or is there a way to adjust the colors in the RV menu?
