This dude in the opening credits constantly makes me laugh:

I actually kind of hate the fact that HBO still does these long winded opening credits. I love when shows just start. Maybe a quick play of a theme song. I don't mind really short ones.

I feel the longer credits makes the episodes more of an event than "just another episode".
Like "Agent of SHIELD"s boring logo coming up makes the show even more boring, and this also applies to "Arrow", they feel rushed and void of self esteem.

Short, sweet and perfect. Sets you up perfectly in 7-8 seconds. More shows need to follow this.

I don't mind an intro though I just hate long winded ones. When I love a show I just want MORE OF IT lol so I guess it bugs me.

But obviously HBO deserves a pass because no commercials so it's not a big deal.

exactly the show I was thinking of when I said it. And Seinfeld!

Had time to watch the first episode and it was pretty good. I just wish the accents weren't so strong cause I had such a hard time understanding what was being said. Maybe it will become easier after couple of episodes.

I posted a while ago how to get subtitles:

I cracked it!

Here's how to get subtitles on your TV if you have Comcast Xfinity.

Turn your cable box and TV on. Press Power, Setup and Menu (in that order). Viola! Secret Comcast menu! Change the Subtitles options (remove black background color if you like). Press power. Then power on again and subtitles are on.

I'm torn. I like both. I like the long ones especially when they have a great intro song, like The Wire, Justified, and Treme.

Justified theme is like 15 seconds long...

Lol, it's about 30 seconds.

But the point I'm making is, the thing I like about it as oppose to like Breaking Bad or Heroes or others like that is that the theme song goes a long way to setting a tone, and if the song is good, I generally don't care how long the intro is.

I'm kinda the opposite. I love the long winded opening credits. I don't mind the shows that have a brief show of the title card, but actual credits sort of set up the show for me.

Boardwalks intro is visually nothing out of the ordinary but the guitar riff is so good, love that intro. I looked up the full song once and I still regret it, turned out that the riff part is only good part of the song :(

If anyone cares.

The making of the opening credits http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/true-detective/

same guys that did worked on the Watch Dogs and The Division trailers http://www.antibody.tv/projects.html

Oh, that is cool.

wat. True Blood's opening is the best one ever!

It was. But I think me getting tired of this show bled into my opinion of the opening titles. They were great, but after seven years... eh. Changing it up would have been nice.

I love reading the title pitch material. It's beautiful stuff. Love how they presented it and broke it down.

Edit: If I ever make a television show, I'm gonna hire these guys.

Or these guys have inspired me to want to create my own firm.

Smoked a bowl of Blue Dream and watched this last night. WOW! What a fantastic pilot episode. Definitely in for the long haul. Get those Emmys ready for McConaughey and Harrelson.

Btw, off topic kinda, but is Breaking Bad eligible for the Emmy's this year?

Yes, Breaking Bad season 5B will be eligible for this coming year's Emmy's.

Basically what they said:

Also having read Greenwald's review I don't think it's gonna get better :/

Hope the mistery becomes more gripping at least.

Alright. Those are fair criticisms. But I happened to love all those elements specifically. Guess it's just one of those things.

It also had an epic feel, as strange as it is to say that about something so simple. But your brain became accustomed, and associated that opening sound from the theme song with excitement.

I'm a sucker for a good murder mystery, i watched it alone first and then showed it to two friends today and i think i got them hooked, we watched some crappy horror/thriller before that and everyone was bored out of their minds and talked over the movie, but during True Detective they were completely sucked in by the whole thing.

also loving the King In Yellow references, like how the murdered girl had said to the guy in jail that she has found her king or something like that and in the second episode preview we can see a glimpse of her diary and you can see "yellow king" written on it, and other references like "Carcosa" and "black stars", i hope they go nuts with the killer and this supernatural aura of things.

Even though the case won't involve the supernatural (pretty sure), things like this are just so interesting and make the story even creepier than it already is

“I think human consciousness is a tragic misstep in human evolution. We became too self aware, nature created an aspect of nature separate from itself. We are creatures that should not exist, by natural law. We are things that labor under the illusion of having a self, a secretion of sensory experience and feeling, programmed with total assurance that we are each somebody, when in fact everybody’s nobody. I think the honorable thing for our species to do is deny our programming, stop reproducing, walk hand in hand into extinction, one last midnight, brothers and sisters opting out of a raw deal.”

How long till people begin to unironically quote this ala Joker quotes or something?

Just watched the first episode. Great stuff. Exactly the sort of show I was expecting it to be. This is an anthology series, which means this story should be completely wrapped up in the 8 episodes of the season, right? It's not something that's going to drag on season after season?

Yup! :)

New episode tonight:
Seeing Things

Quesada warns Hart and Cohle that they may be replaced by an occult-crimes task force; the pair follows a lead to a rural cathouse and an incinerated church; Hart finds respite away from home.

Also, please remember to spoiler tag any preview/promo discussion or content from episodes that haven't aired yet. This includes things like interviews with the cast, reviews from critics, and anything else of that nature. Thank you.
