My new celebrity crush is Alexandra Daddario. Dem tits, god lord!

With that aside, this show is gripping. The atmosphere is chilling. The cinematography is top notch. I felt the tension through my iPad during the locker room confrontation. I'm going to rewatch tomorrow because I missed out on a lot of details through the dialogue.

Looked like it was a murder scene, but I couldn't hear what the girls were saying before he opened the door. I thought it was showing that the girls are aware of the type of shit Hart sees at his job
99% sure they were talking about how Rust told them about his daughter's death during dinner. I didn't know what to make of the dolls either, but I think it may indeed have been them reenacting what Rust told them.

This episode was solid. I have high hopes for the rest of the season. The acting is just so top notch so far. Between Dallas Buyers Club, Mud, Wolf of Wall Street, and this, McConaughey's been on a roll. He went from 'that guy who's always in chick flicks' to one of my favorite current actors.

really, i mean - just so impressed with mcconaughey in this show

that scene in the conference room, when hes running them through his daughters death and the situation with his ex-wife

just superb

Woody Harrelson is killing it too.

When the mayor was chewing out Rust with the "How many ways are there for me to say shut the fuck up?" they cut back to Hart and the sly smile on his face is hilarious.

lol yeah i chuckled at that as well

yeah i hate to downplay how good harrelson is, because he too has been outstanding

but rusts character is just rather fascinating on top of the powerhouse performance by mcc

The dialog writing and acting are definitely some of the best on TV right now. And the overall plot arc seems to be going somewhere great.

MM is fucking nailing his role. God damn.

I see so many similarities with Twin Peaks.

Was going to come in here and say that this show is really feeling like a backwoods Twin Peaks right now.

Also, Marty's girl on the side has got one smokin' body. Pity he's too stupid to stick with his smokin' wife.

I knew it, i thought "what if rust and harts falling out, was because of rust sleeping with his wife"

Looks like its happening

It might not mean anything but Heart is still wearing a wedding ring in the interview scenes.

I loved the little details like the crazy looking cat at the cat house and the owl in the burned out church.

Also the people getting Lovecraft vibes last week must have been excited with the yellow king reference.

Another great episode, Rust just keeps getting more and more interesting. Episode felt pretty long, but like the first one I didn't want it to end.

And my god at Daddario...

Heart isn't wearing a wedding ring in the future scenes. I noticed it last week and confirmed it this week.

He is wearing some kind of bigger ring on his right hand but the band on his left hand is gone.

Great back and forth:

"Is that a down payment?"

"Is shitting on any moment of decency part of your job description?"

Wow, after the second episode, I'm convinced.

Add to the fact that there's continuity in the directing, that this episode feels very much like the first because it was in fact directed by the same guy, is also a special bonus. It's been a while since I've seen a show that is both written and directed all the way through by the same people, and it's refreshing to see a vision play out over a longer length of time.

Of course, I'm starting to notice all the pontificating and nihilistic philosophizing, but hey, if guy wants to talk about the pointlessness of having children... I'm all for it.

What was the purpose of the Corinthians quote? Feels like one of the few times the show was up its own ass.

Isn't that passage about how we are all from many different races/religions, but at the end of the day the spirit is something within us all? I don't understand Rust's reasoning.

Edit: I've rewatched it and he explains: " I was just trying to stay a part of the body"

Meaning, he was trying to stay human and relate to others... Who the others are is unclear. At least that's my interpretation.

Daddario made me say Mommy out loud.

With that out of the way; The owl in the church was a nice touch. I like that they didn't address it at all (he didn't look at it, nor did woody) which makes the viewer wonder if its there at all. They really nailed "backwoods whorehouse" in an even seedier way than Porky's, and Woody's (I don't remember the characters names yet) marriage falling apart was interesting to watch as well. The drawing at the end creeped me out for some reason, and I'm guessing that the whole "burnt church" angle is going to make people take a lot more notice.

They made the casting choice of a lifetime, even if Woody looks old enough to be her father and then some in their scenes together.

wasn't really aware of the significance of the grafitti in the church. the mystery's not holding up well for me, but i do enjoy all the scenes with these characters so it's still pretty good.

Daddario omg.

McConaughey definitely got that screen presence. Only a few could pull this off, because if another actor not as talented/well-liked portrayed him we'd just be annoyed by his ramblings by now.

but with matthew it's..tolerable. and keeps you transfixed.

Great episode. Rust is a fascinating character and Marty is an ass. I'm curious as to why the detectives are so interested in Rust.

Yeah I understand that they are trying to portray that they certainly didn't find a fast track at the beginning of taking the case, but that still doesn't make it riveting to watch that. Hearing Rust and Marty mention in the interviews future events only to have the other detectives say "nah, we'll get to that later" is a bit frustrating as well.

That said, the character work and the acting is excellent, so it's worth the investment. It was good to see more about Marty, as we didn't learn much about him in the first episode.

Matthew's performance in the 2012 scenes is pretty incredible. It's unnerving and unhinged.
I'm having trouble understanding how people missed the drawing of the naked lady with antlers.
I'll have to watch it again knowing what it is, but I was bewildered looking at it in the scene.

This is my first time taking notice of this show. But I'm already sold on the down to earth aesthetic on this show. I'm really sick of all that saturation of colors and perfectly tailored actors in shows. But this is HBO so I'm not surprised it's a cut above.

Telling by the leading actors it's going to be great, everything else is in the writers hands now.

Writer! One dude writing every episode, one dude directing every episode. It's like I'm watching a British series pre-2002.

for real i kinda forgot what their investigation even was for a minute there lol

ep was alright, didn't really grab me like the premier

great end credits song

I'm really surprised to hear this. Pleasantly surprised, there is something to be said about having the creators intimately connected with their creations at every turn.

The acting in this show is stellar. I enjoyed the episode. It was nice to get into Marty's character a little more. I liked this exchange:

"Your mom still alive?"
"Maybe."

The delivery is perfect.

That was an hour of nuanced dialogue and exposition and all you guys can go on about is titties / arguing over whether her ass or vagina was being licked?

Seriously GAF?

If someone were to read opinions of this show they'd think we all have a secret (or not so secret) crush on MM but he is truly killing this role.

He is just a slick dude. Has a charm about the way he delivers words that keeps your ears listening. Don't even lie, which of you have rewinded an episode or gone back to a scene where he said something just to hear it again. I bet some of you at least.

but have you seen them?

Alexandra Daddario was God damn glorious. The two week wait for the real thing was worth it.

I appreciate that Cohle already picked up on what was going on and needled Hart about it the way only he could. He then showed he's no pushover and will deal with shit when confronted. The dynamic they presented in this episode with the girls recreation of a ritual and the conversation with Hart's wife the previous week tells me fireworks are in the near future.

The elements of Cohle tripping while on the job raises some questions about what he thinks he knows of what he sees. Some hunches might be questionable now. But he will have a partner and everyone else who isn't a druggie to call BS on him if it's far fetched, or will they?

The boobs on the drawing at the end looked like eyes and drew all the focus. I could understand people not having seen the head and antlers.
