The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

Okay, so I just found a full set of Orcish armor on a bandit chief at level 6...which mod is it that fucked up my loot tables?

1. Requiem - uninstalled, never touched this save file
2. Dynamic Loot - uninstalled, never touched this save file
3. High Level Enemies - installed, but not supposed to kick in until level 10

Now I know for a fact that Dynamic Loot never fully uninstalls and I'd have to start from a fresh install to stop finding the occasional daedra heart on a wolf or what have you, but I don't think it effected what tier of armor you'd find on an enemy. Requiem seems like a likely suspect. That mod made all the dungeons unleveled so it could be that the chief was always supposed to wear Orcish and that carried over somehow. Regardless, does anyone know if there's a way to fix this?

More impressions on Confidence ENB.

Really love the overall direction of the weathers, but they don't work well at all with some of the other presets I've tried (namely Phinix), since there seems to be some strong tint / contrast adjustment in the weather itself. The end result is a bit funky.

As far as the ENB itself is concerned, I really love the look of interiors and nights (though nights are a TEENSY bit too dark) and I really like how it meshes with the weather. Can't say I'm a huge fan of the sun glare texture, ray coloring (too yellow I think), or the ultra sharp lens flare. And I'm not sure if this is part of the weather (maybe) or not, but the reddish tint feels a bit off in many situations as does the saturation being a tad too much sometimes. Though mostly just around Whiterun.

My weather mod and preset is up. May run like crap so be prepared to turn some things down/off if you demand 60fps. Of course it won't look the same in that case.

Loving it so far, especially indoors and in Caves

@Bornsteller
You will have to find a mod to speed up rain, you could also change the rains texture as well.

Started my replay of Skyrim. Wanted it to be a little more vibrant and colourful this time around. Also wanted to check out the DLC; by the end of my first playthrough, I was a little fatigued by it all and decided to leave Dawnguard and Dragonborn till another time. As you can see, Whiterun is brighter, more cheerful and just bristling with wildlife and autumnal trees and flora.

To anyone who has played the DLC, how is it? I've not read up on it at all, so don't know much about the two quest lines beyond the basics. How do they measure up against the best quest lines in Skyrim?

Dawnguard is okay. The best thing is being a vampire lord, but even that gets tiring after a while. Dragonborn DLC is excellent though. It's packed with new stuff unlike anything in the original game, and the majority of it is really fun.

What ENB are you using there? Looks pretty good.

Project ENB for Climates of Tamriel

Using this one. There's quite a few good presets. Realistic, Cinematic, Fantasy and each comes with optional effects such as film grain, blursharp and sharpening. I can't remember which specific one I settled on, but I do have a film grain filter on there. I know it's not for all, but I've always liked that sort of thing.

Awesome.

Will check this out along with Confidence Man's ENB. Think I'll start with a clean slate as from what I remember last time my Skyrim install was all over the place with the amount of mods/conflicts I had.

What texture mods did you use to get Whiterun to look like that, and what mods to give it that vibrancy?

The mods I'm using specific to Whiterun are;

Sexy Whiterun v3
Sexy Whiterun Dirt Road (felt that had a more natural look than the default brick road)
Beautiful Whiterun
Dawn of Whiterun

I think that's all of them. There's also "Town & Villages Enhanced - Whiterun" which gives the town a distinct forested look. It was too much for my liking, but something others may want to check out.

The Project ENB mod linked above combined with Climates of Tamriel should give it that vibrant pop. There are a number of presets to play with in the ENB zip, so just try them out till you find the one you like the most.

Small question: on the Nexus Mod Manager, is activating a mod when it is effectively installed? I'm doing a fresh set of mod installs, and was wondering if I have to download them in the recommended install order, or if I can download them all at once and then activate them in the appropriate order. I'm assuming the latter, but wanted to check to avoid any potential headaches.

Yes .it only downloads the mod .
When you activate it it installs it it into the game .

So if you want to , you can download every mod you want to and then later install them .

Yep, installation order is what matters when it comes to mods that replace the same files (like textures, models etc...). Download order doesn't matter. Then, after you've installed your mods, you'll want to use BOSS to sort out the order in which plugins (esps) are loaded.

Woah, what is that Whiterun mod? It's awesome.

Which bandit chief?

I should've started modding ages ago, I installed a bunch of basic mods and it's been great.

The Alternate Start mod is a godsend, I'm having a blast playing like I had during launch. Skyrim is a good game.

Just got some new idle animations and Mod stuff.

When a weapon hits a solid object, what do you see?.....some dust.....now i get SPARKLES

How would I go about speeding up the ENB driven rain?
I'm gonna start trying out some regular rain mods to see what happens.

This is what happens when you rename the enbraindrops_twolines.tga to enbraindrops.tga from the _sample_enbraindrops folder from the 245 binary zip file and put it in your skyrim game folder. Makes the raindrops smaller which gives the illusion of it moving faster.

Which version of Project ENB is that?

Sorry, I forget which one exactly. I was basically running through them all trying each preset out. I think I may have settled on realistic/fantasy with a film grain preset. I also didn't go for any of the performance enhancing related presets either

Man, my snow is still way too bright in sunlight. I suppose it's realistic, but it's also kind of annoying. :lol

EDIT: I managed to fix it with Imaginator. That mod is seriously amazing.

Now, one last thing that is kinda bothering me: when looking at distant water, the edges where it meets the land are just way too sharp. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there's a mod out there that just fixes that.

Have any of you had luck with this recent memory mod? Here.

Sounds very promising, but I lack the proper computer to fully utilize it's possibilities.

Edit: Fixed link to go to a temporary page since his forum is getting pounded.

I felt Dawnguard starts off slow but really picks up in the later half. Also think it wraps up fairly nicely.
Dragonborn's main questline is much shorter, but has more side quests.

Both DLCs include my favorite NPCs though
Serana
in Dawnguard and
Neloth
in Dragonborn.

Yeah, not going to sacrifice my firstborn. Not that I have a firstborn, but still.

Here's what I was talking about earlier:

The distant water just doesn't look right. I'm using Realistic Water Two. I'm going to try and go back to W.AT.E.R. and see if that looks better.

It will be exactly the same as all water mods, including the original textures, unless you want to try ugrids at over 9000 or something. That may help. Engine limitations suck.

Whoops double post.....oh well :(
Actually maybe a enhanced distant water terrain mod might help.....someone should make it now.

Are you using Climates of Tamriel? That might cause it as well.

The horizon problem exists in the default game, the only way to mitigate it (that I know of) is to alter the atmosphere mesh so the horizon melds with the water better.

Seems to be working fine for me, only played for a short time though. It's amazing how many different mods there are which improve the way this game handles memory.

There is a dude from the end forum -jawZ- I think who is making something like that Confidence man has the files but I guess jawz isn't ready to release it to the public yet.

The atmosphere mesh only changes the transitions from the different levels of the sky to reduce banding and make it smoother. There is no fix for that water line, unfortunately.

Too bad. :( Yeah, here's to hoping the next Fallout and TES make full use of next-gen hardware.

We know what we must do. Port Skyrim to the Oblivion engine.

The water in Oblivion did look very good for its time, if I recall. The same can't be said for the Skyrim water.
