Kill: Reboot
Kill: Reboot
Save: Tiny Toon Adventures

Reboot needs to get out of here - the fact that I used to watch it now sickens me. Tiny Toons wasn't that great in retrospect, but I'm a fan for the music videos alone.

I didn't care too much about the contest until this point, but I am going to murder Reboot. I am going to murder it over and over until it doesn't come back.
It just won't die!
Reboot needs to die already.
Reboot has to go, were so close now.

Kill: DBZ

Reboot has to go, were so close now.

Courage is an awesome show, it shouldn't be voted off yet. My favorite episode was "King Ramses Curse." That episode freaked me out so bad as a kid, I loved it.

"Return the slab and end your suffering."

EDIT: I'm sorry but I had to change one of my kills (I really should start voting near the end of these rounds). Now that I'm seeing DBZ get close to getting killed, I think now's a better time then ever. I love DBZ as much as the next person, but all the fillers start to drag. There was good fillers like Goku learning how to drive which I thought was funny, and then there's the bad filler like a whole episode to prepare for someone's attack. The funny thing is, Kai was created to take out the fillers. Yet it's still slow int he pacing even in Kai.

Why the weak-ass push to kill Courage at the last minute and "save" Doug? You guys are bad at this. Learn a thing or two from the Spongebob round about how to do this right.

Courage and Tiny Toons are good targets for this round. Reboot can be saved again.

An episode that didn't air in that decade.
:P

Kill: Courage the Cowardly Dog
Kill: DBZ

Save: Reboot

Neither of these were spectacular. One was heavily censored and had padding problems. Other was barely in Tue decade. Reboot is solid.

Such a shame that you're putting ReBoot in so much danger with that double kill of yours, then. I love me some Courage, but if I have to decide between the two...

He actually did change his votes. Which is unwise because if Reboot isn't on the bubble near the end, there will be a lot of unnecessary Reboot kills that can get switched to Courage real fast.

Better to kill Reboot and something else... for Courage's sake.

Kill Reboot
Kill Reboot
Save DBZ

I'm happy to see I probably wasn't needed to kill Courage this round, so my votes are here to pick #2, it seems. Reboot fans are starting to join this thread just to keep it going, which no other show seems to be resorting to, so here's hoping we nip it in the bud tonight.

How is Reboot still alive!?!? Within the first couple hours it had 12+ kills (with saves included).

Kill: Reboot
Kill: Reboot
Save: DBZ - Fuck you Reboot.

Now it's at +15 kills this round already.

Funny that.

I just wanted to point out why no one should take such a threat seriously.

How is Reboot still alive!?!? Within the first couple hours it had 12+ kills (with saves included).

It's probably getting close to 100 kills total for the competition if it's not over that already. How does it survive? There's just enough people saving it each round that it slips beneath two other shows.

Voting has gotten bit boring for me. I have no qualms with most of the shows on the list and I know my favorites will make it to top 5, so I feel like there is no need to vote until it's top ten time. I guess I'll wait and see if any sniping opportunities open.

Don't let yourselves get talked out of good deals either.

Not to mention we know what hand you're going to play and it's already been factored in.

Yeah, but he has no idea who else would play that hand. He's wagering your two kills against an unknown number of kills from other people that could come in response.

Better to just not get blackmailed.

Not voting is boring! What are all those anti non- voting advertisements again?

If Spongebob and Courage get voted off for not being 90s enough, I hope that they show up again in the 2000s thread (which I am more inclined to participate in, hehe). Two great shows that don't deserve to die for time reasons and never show up again!

They'll show up in the 00's for sure. I think both will do quite well there.

I'm voting for sure but I'm doing it without any passion. At least we are not far from top tens so things are going to get interesting again.

I can see the shows that need to go before top ten really clearly at this point. If it weren't for Reboot (that I honestly think should have gone days ago), it would be smooth sailing up until that point, I think.

Top 10 will be a bloodbath.

I think Spongebob is guaranteed to be in thanks to a certain person's preferences :P

I hate the art that Klasky Csupo puts out. They can write and thats good, but oh lord the art is always so bad.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember that Klasky did the art for the first few seasons of the Simpsons.

Up through season three, I believe.

The first few seasons had a really unique and interesting art style. It's one of the defining parts of 90's animation for me.

i did a writeup of rugrats about a year ago:

considering rugrats in the 90s was really only 3 good seasons, i wouldn't mind seeing it kicked off. it's the worst nicktoon left, but there are so many other shows that deserve the boot right now.

That's actually a really interesting read. I never really knew about that at all. Really puts the show in a new, somewhat unflattering, light for me.

i did a writeup of rugrats about a year ago:

the history of rugrats is fascinating to me. it starts off so strong and it just gets worse in segments.

the first era of the show is season 1. this is before angelica really came into her own as the antagonist of the group. season 1 was about as close to the original idea that arlene klasky had for the show than anything that came since. remember the episode where they're in the theater, and there's almost no dialogue and it's just animation of babies running amok? that was what rugrats was supposed to be.

once angelica was introduced as the antagonist, everything changed. the focus was less on the animation and more on the writing. she was a brat that you could love to hate, and there were a lot (a lot) of jokes in there that weren't really meant for kids. klasky clashed with the writers over angelica in particular. she didn't want to make angelica a bully, but the writers won out in the end for the first production run of the show. 1991-1994 is the classic era of the show. the passover episode marks the end of it. during the first production run, things got so bad that gabor csupo acted as a mediator between klasky and the writing staff, and most of them left when the show went on hiatus.

when the show came back in 1997, the third big era of the show began, and it's marked with a change of the animation style, increased color saturation, increased reliance on mark mothersbaugh's music and sound effects, and generally less edgy writing. one of the problems klasky had with the original show was that babies did not act like babies. without a writing staff to fight her for 65 episodes, i have to think this was more to her liking. angelica was still a brat, but she was toned down. episodes would end with her learning a lesson instead of being defeated somehow. in general, the writing was a lot less subtle, with characters sometimes outright stating how they feel (and that makes me feel angry).

the next period of the show was when dil was added. this was in 1999, right after the movie, and this is when it started explicitly appealing towards the nick jr. crowd. i stopped watching the show at this point, but i managed to catch some episodes as part of the '90s are all that' and... it's not very good. dil as a character is basically a prop in these episodes, and most episodes deal with the baby (who is too young to communicate with the other babies and toddlers) as a thing to find, since dil is either getting lost or needs to be rescued. the majority of his on-screen time is making unintelligible noises or doing gross baby stuff.

the last era of the show was after the second movie when chuckie's dad marries a french japanese woman and chuckie gets an adopted sister. i haven't seen this part of the show aside from the all growed up episode that aired as the 10th anniversary show- which also serves as a series finale of sorts to rugrats and all grown up since it takes place after that show, i believe. can't really judge the entire era from one episode, but it seems like they got the extreme color saturation under control.

i think it's also fair to include all grown up as part of the series since it serves as a sequel to rugrats. for whatever reason, my sister and a friend and i sat through every episode. to be fair to all grown up, some jokes do land, and there is what i would call one good episode in the whole bunch. but if rugrats kept getting worse after the second era more and more, this was the ultimate culmination of it- and i think it's why we couldn't stop watching. in rugrats, you sorta had a hierarchy- tommy is the leader, chuckie is the cowardly second-in-command, and phil and lil the gruntwork guys who just kinda tag along (and angelica is the antagonist, of course).

in all grown up, there's no hierarchy. the show actually focuses a lot on chuckie a lot more. the characters are all hugely different. i understand that you might not be the same person you were when you were a fictional baby and a fictional preteen, but a lot of the personality traits that defined them were replaced by things they did. tommy went from being the headstrong brave one to kind of a douche filmmaker. dil is a weirdo obsessed with the paranormal- especially aliens. lil has become a normal person while phil is still as weird as he always was (which always bugged me- since the point of lil was that it was okay she was weird and instead they make her like the other girls on the show). susie goes from being a defender of the group to wanting to sing (lots of episodes are devoted to her singing). chuckie gets something of an upgrade and goes from being a coward to being kinda ambitious and eager to try new things.

angelica gets it the worst though. she's a spoiled teen, but never really acts like it. instead of being something of a bully like what was hinted in all growed up, she's more embarrassed to be around the younger guys. it would have been the easiest thing in the world to make her an antagonist who could terrorize the younger group, but she instead just wants to fit in with the popular girls and tries oh-so-hard but just can't. the one good episode i mentioned actually deals with her as a spoiled teen and learning responsibility, and it's out of place for the series, but it's okay because the series sucks.

without an antagonist to sort of anchor the show, it wanders aimlessly and a lot of episodes spend their time on character interactions with each other- which is not bad, but it usually deals with them getting upset with one another and the problem resolving itself at the end of the episode. there's also this 'wah-waaaaaah' effect that mothersbaugh uses, and it will happen at least once per episode.

you can kind of pinpoint when the simpsons went bad, and maybe separate it out into eras too, but this show got progressively worse much quicker and never recovered.

considering rugrats in the 90s was really only 3 good seasons, i wouldn't mind seeing it kicked off. it's the worst nicktoon left, but there are so many other shows that deserve the boot right now.

Kill: DBZ
Kill: DBZ
Save: The Powerpuff Girls (I started to watch this with my daughter in 2005 and for my surprise it was really good.)

I seriously have nothing else to vote for. Tiny Toons and Rugrats weren't really my cup of tea but they did have their moments. Unlike DBZ.

edit. I really need to get my hands on Rocko's Modern Life. I loved it back in the day but seems like the current DVD releases are incomplete.

Kill: Dragon Ball Z - I've just never been much of an anime fan. Tried getting into this multiple times and it never clicked with me.

Kill: Dragon Ball Z

Save: Courage the Cowardly Dog

Wow, stepped away from this thread for a bit and anger is everywhere.

Reboot is a lost cause this round. But I'm not going to let Hey Arnold go down with it WHEN TINY TOONS IS STILL ON THE LIST.

Kill: Tiny Toons
Kill: Tiny Toons
Save: Hey Arnold

hey arnold is a fantastic show. it absolutely belongs in the top ten. i'm hoping people save it, since courage isn't going anywhere now.

All I want to see in top ten are (not in any order):

Rocko's Modern Life
The Powerpuff Girls
Batman
Simpsons
Superman

I also suspect they will make it. Powerpuff Girls are bit of a question mark, but I hope it will make it. Other current shows can go or stay, don't care that much.

Kill: DBZ
Kill: DBZ
Save: Hey! Arnold

DBZ is alright, but compared to everything else on this list it just doesn't do anything for me. I also think Reboot should go, but hopefully there will be enough votes to kill it this round without me helping. I am gonna put a save on Hey! Arnold because I have been informed that this show may be in danger of being eliminated.

Three of my favorite shows seem to be coming under fire, now is when the hard decisions start. :/

Kill: Powerpuff Girls
Kill: Powerpuff Girls Only show left on the list that I never really got into.

Save: Darkwing Duck. It's hard to choose which to save between Reboot, DD, and TTA but it's probably time for Reboot to go and between Tiny Toons and Darkwing I'd probably have to say Darkwing Duck was my favorite. I may change later if votes shake out differently.

Yes Yes Yes! Doug is finally gone.

Now on to the next target:

Kill: PowerPuff Girls - Art style was bad, characters annoying, and mary-sue all around. Never liked this show.
Kill: PowerPuff Girls

Save: Darkwing Duck

Yes Yes Yes! Doug is finally gone.

Hell yeah!
Anyway, this is kind of tough for me as now we're left with shows I love and a few that were just middling for me.

Kill: Courage the Cowardly Dog
Kill: Courage the Cowardly Dog
Save: Reboot

I just never got into Courage so I have to vote based on that.

You did well, Doug. You did well. You survived. You outlasted Swatkats and Spongebob Squarepants. You did well, my childhood friend.

Kill: Rugrats
Kill: Rugrats
Save: Powerpuff Girls

I'm killing again, Rugrats. I spent way too much time watching PPG. Out of appreciation, my save vote goes to the girls.

DBZ does too have moments. You just have to wait for them.

Courage has had a good run. It's lasted far longer than any other non-90s show on the list. Congratulations. Like my precious Doug, it performed admirably. It is now time for it to exit.
I'll stop saving Reboot when you start threatening a show that deserves saving more. (Admittedly, that time is coming soon)

At this point, I really want to vote to kill Batman Beyond, but so long as no one else seems interested in that, I'll have to stick with Courage.

DBZ was alright but eventually got stale for me.

Edit: saving Reboot because PPG is in no danger. DBZ should be going soon
