The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

Oblivion's faces.............*hurls*

I never thought they looked that bad, tbh. They weren't great, especially looking back, but I never had the same feeling of revulsion some people seem to have; :p

Same with the faces in Skyrim now, a lot of people complain about them and then end up installing a few mods that turn every female character into the game kawaii.

I was more disappointed with the lack of voice actors in Oblivion.

Hmmm. weird. i tried the memory fix but i kept getting CTD's after loading my savefile .

Re installing SKSE files fixed it again .

Speaking of Oblivion, here is a rather large mod that I never quite finished (85% done or so). Might as well put it out there if anyone is still playing that game.

It's a new knights faction inspired by the Knights Templar, probably a dozen quests (with sidequests), branching storyline that ties directly into the events of the main Oblivion quest, massive dungeons, new locations including a large island with a castle, and an epic dungeon-city. Much bigger than Knights of the Nine, I'd wager. I kind of regret never finishing it but it got unwieldy toward the end. It starts at a knights' abbey near last chance camp in the Anvil region.

Part of the issue with Oblivion was just the art-style, which seemed to lean towards Duplo or Playmobil toys at times. If you can get past that the graphics still hold up quite well, with the right mods.

Yeah, Cyrodiil had that slightly kiddy fantasy look going. It's very different from Morrowind and Skyrim.

I need to look into some good mods for Oblivion, I haven't really modded the game yet. I'm still trying to fix my Fallout 3 crashes on my laptop. :lol

In the thread I made I linked to a DLL file that has the proper settings already added.
If you're still having issues with the mod then try that out. Here

Played around more with Confidence Man ENB. Falling in love with it ATM. Using the thin2 raindrops (or whatever they were called) also helps with the rain.

That said, there are a few issues.
1. Snow is a bit bright at night. This may have to do with the way nights are currently handled, (see 2 and 3).
enb2014_01_1916_04_533rukc.png

2. Nights are a bit too dark, resulting in some crushed blacks (full screen the image in order to see it). While I love the darkness, it might be prudent to look at adjusting nights to avoid the aforementioned crush.
enb2014_01_1916_28_523rjc2.png

3. The enemy AI doesn't seem phased by the now ultra-dark nights. They still spot me fairly easily in the dark. Are nights being adjusted with values the AI reacts to (actual lighting values) or is the image space being manipulated to produce the desired look. If possible, could you make the AI affected by the darkness as well (by manipulating lighting values)?
4. Water appears completely black at night, even when illuminated by a torch. Ideally it would look a bit more transparent. I have no idea if this is specifically caused by the ENB / weather esp, or if it is just now more visible than ever.
enb2014_01_1916_23_521pj8s.png

5. Overcast weather causes some parts of vegetation / water to appear black.
enb2014_01_1916_33_34fqkno.png

enb2014_01_1916_38_189xk8e.png

6. Loading screen sometimes gets heavy red tint.
enb2014_01_1916_55_55mijcp.png

And some more general opinion-laced feedback:
1. While I love the sunset / sunrise coloration, I think that coloration persists a tad too long atm.
2. The sun looks a lot better with more subdued lens flare / glare textures.
3. Overcast weather could use a tad bit more in the way of shadows methinks.

On a related note, anyone know if a fix exists for this weird looking fire pit texture?
enb2014_01_1916_18_31p4khz.png

(Why is edit borked?)

Alternatively, that might be caused by the way nights are being handled again. I'd need to uninstall everything and check it to be sure.

And one more thing Re: Confidence Man ENB + NLA:

Whiterun looks pretty ugly during clear weather due to the very pervasive yellow vanilla textures. It might be worth including some recolored textures or tweaking the weather to be a bit less saturated perhaps.

Go get tamriel reloadeds alternate white run textures.

That said, there are a few issues.

Hmm. Did you turn some things off? Overcast and foggy weather will generally be less shadowed due to the higher ambient light and lack of direct sun, but SSAO and skylighting help that somewhat. Looks like AO is off maybe?

The snow particles unfortunately are always full bright no matter what and no setting affects them. This goes for any of those screen effects like falling leaves in the fall forest region. There is an alternate snow made by mindflux you can find on the enbdev forums that can be controlled, but it has it's issues too.

Dark water I'll have to look at, maybe it's the water shadows. The loading screen I've never seen before.

Your screens look a lot bloomier than they should though. Are you using the bloom.fx file that I included? It's an older version with some extra contrast code that doesn't smear the whole screen.

Yeah, I turned off SSAO, Skylighting, and DoF for the performance gains. And the loading screen crops up occasionally, but not always. Can't get a reliable repro. Bloom is probably from Dynavision.

A few more things which cropped up while running around with a really high timescale (so pretty):

This distance fog seems a bit excessively blue:
enb2014_01_1918_34_42iwsca.png

And speaking of distance fog, this happens during some weathers:

After messing and adjusting the Confidence Man ENB I can't make it look good and still run decent on my computer. I dislike how "hard" it looks.

I guess I'll try again if I ever upgrade my PC.

More like "because it's the only thing that comes out" good god is everyone ugly in Skryim.

Also any good mods to customize how much body hair (from none to a lot)? I'm trying to find ones that goes for arms/legs/back and not just typical chest (or better yet customize each of these parts).

Of course I have a better faces mod installed so I'm not sure if such a thing is possible. I tried the smooth bodies mod and it crashed when I had both installed, but maybe I installed it wrong or something *shrug*

I installed the unofficial patch and now I can't get past the first quest. Right after the dragon appears as you're about to have your head chopped off at the start. The dragon shows up, I run into the tower with the Stormcloak guy then we run up the stairs and wait for the dragon to show up to throw some flames into the hole in the wall. But it doesn't show up so I can't progress.

Any ideas? I'm not 100% sure it's the unofficial patch doing it.

Hi guys, I'm running into some issues where dungeon walls disappear when looking at them from certain angles, or getting certain distances from them. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I've ran BOSS, so I don't think it's a load order issues.

My mods (in order):
Climates of Tamriel
Better Snow
Further Dark Dungeons for ENB
Static Mesh Improvement Mod
SMIM Dragonborn
SMIM Furniture/Chest/Snow fix
Sky UI
iHUD
SkyRe

I wouldn't use the unofficial patches unless you have a specific problem with the game. From my experience, they cause as many problems as they solve.

Can I clean out my Skyrim folder/remove all mods easily somehow or must I do it manually?

I'd like to get back to vanilla but I don't want to delete all of the mods from my PC, so that I can put them back on my game again after I've cleaned it all out. I use NMM, by the way.

I hope my wording makes sense :P

NMM downloads and stores files in a separate location from the data folder. You can use NMM to deactivate all of the mods, but if you're running into big issues I would back up your saves folder, uninstall the game, delete everything left over in the ini and skyrim install directories, reinstall the game.

Yes you can,go into your skyrim data folder delete your mods esps and bsas just don't delete any of the original esp's and bsa's or you will have to download them again when you verify game cache. You should be able to get rid if all the folders in the data directory without any ill effects.

So delete all your mods esp's, bsa's and folders in the data directory then verify game cache..you could even copy your .ini's somewhere...then run the loader once, quit then replace with your old INI files. Run NMM it should pop with a warning and follow the prompts.

You should try out Mod Organizer you don't have to do any of that stuff since Mod Organizer doesn't put anything in your skyrim folder and is always technically a vanilla game. Its a lot more work to get it running and fiddling with a few things but worth it.

Thank you both.

Looks like I was doing a mix of NMM installs and manually installing things to my Skyrim directory (it's a mess). My main issue right now is that my ENBs either do not work or are very messed up. I went through and deleted everything in my directory that looked like it went with an ENB but I'm still having some issues and figured I might as well try keeping what I want and get rid of some of the dumb mods I was just messing with when I got my new PC.

Did you change bFloatPointRenderTarget=0 to bFloatPointRenderTarget=1 in your skyrimprefs.ini

Depending on what binary you use .168/.13.7.13 and below and have an Nvidia card you might want to find Nvidia Display driver 312.22 and roll back to that any higher causes problems.
221 and above any drivers should be fine. I can't help if you have an Ati card since i don't have one.

I still have incredibly jagged shadows, despite setting the shadow configurations to high values (4096 resolution, shadowfilter=4, etc.)

Anyone have an idea on what to do?

How high is your shadow distance? Skyrim's shadows are horribly flawed, in that you can either get distant detail and no shadows farther away than you can spit, or distant shadows that look horrible up close.

3500 for both interior and exterior. Should I decrease it? I'm mostly interested in nice shadows up close.

I'm also running Climates ENB.

I uninstalled and reinstalled all my of mesh/texture mods and am still having the aforementioned issue, but also, now if I even turn my camera towards Embershard Mines/Riverwood, my framerate drops down to like 3-4 FPS. This happens even if I'm up by Bleakfalls Barrow. I'm not really sure what's going on at this point.

You could try lowering it to 2000 and see if that looks better.

Also, I'm confused about the new memory patch. It says to add the line about the 'first born son' to 'the ini', but which .ini? The SKSE one? Because I did that, and got the new .dll, but I don't see the line indicating it's working appearing in my log.

EDIT: Wait, I found it, it's working now.

BTW how are the Skyrim threads so active lately? Was it the holiday sales?

I think a couple reasons. 1. All the amazing screenshots in the bullshot thread, shich make Skyrim look mind blowing and also 2. The Steam holiday sale had Skyrim on sale for like $5. I just picked up a copy myself as a matter of fact (for the modability of it).

Question for you guys. I'm a newb at modding Skyrim. I've been tinkering though and get how it works at this point. Like a lot of other people I've been looking for that "perfect" ENB. As far as pure IQ/Performance goes, I really love the RealVision ENB. My only problem is that the colors are really oversaturated. it's like someone turned the color up to 11. Is there a way I can manually tone that aspect of the ENB down?

Also, I keep seeing people mention the Somber ENB and I'd like to give it a try but it doesn't seem to be available on Nexus anymore. Is there somewhere else I can pick this mod up? If any of you wouldn't mind sharing some of the rarer mods with me, I would really love that. Unless there is some sort of secret repository with all the cool stuff or something that I'm missing, which in that case can you hook a brotha up with a link?! :P
