1990's Cartoon Survivor (Do-Over)

I'm seeing some stealth Hey Arnold kills in order to save Tiny Toons/Darkwing, but I don't think there's nearly enough.

Do you all think Tiny Toons is top ten for the decade?

Heh. Any tips on who's doing the PMing?

I promise it's not me! My vacation is over and don't have time and patience for PMing fifty people, keeping updated vote tallies, etc. It was tiring.

Now I'm just voting to save what I like, kill what I like less, and revising a bit later tonight to keep my votes relevant to the round.

How are they stealth if they are out in the wide open? That shit should have died long ago....

its top 10 based on the fact I can't think of another cartoon in the 90's based on kids growing up in a city that felt realistically like the life of a kid growing up in a city.

I just want everyone to know that if they kill DBZ that I can wish it back to life. There really is no point in killing it because it'll just come back stronger than before.

I heard rumor of this- I'm glad to hear it's confirmed as true.

Might as well kill Tiny Toons/Darkwing.

Kill: Powerpuff Girls
Kill: Powerpuff Girls

Show was boring with so-so writing and bad animation and art style.

save: Daekwing Duck. Awesome show that deserves to see the top 10

You know who isn't that great of a hero? Darkwing Duck. He had a cool video game and theme song, but....come onnnnn

Here's a quote from IMDB:

I am the terror that flaps in the night, I am the batteries that are not included.

Groannnnnnnn

That might be the most flattering piece of Darkwing Duck animation I've ever seen, heh. That's one of those Extra $$ for the opening titles" bits, right?

Yeah it's probably from the theme song.

Here's another show that isn't that great

Great video game, but you know what was better than Tiny Toons?

Regular ass Looney Tunes.

I like Tiny Toons though. I like kids shows that make adult references. They bridge the age gap and treat kids with a little more intelligence.

Remember the episode that parodied "Citizen Kane?" I think that might even predate the Simpsons Mr. Burns episode.

I think it did, but would you put Tiny Toons above Animaniacs, in that regard?

All the shows left are good shows. I loved Tiny Tunes as a kid, but I never loved it as much as other contemporary comedies (from nick/cartoon network) or its predecessor (Looney Tunes).

Yeah... every now and then it's worth noting we're all playing devil's advocate or overly criticising for the sake of moving forward.

I didn't hate Tiny Toons growing up or anything, but I personally think it's comfortable with the #13 spot or so.

Kill: PowerPuff Girls
Kill: Dex's Lab

Save: Tiny Toons

It's time for these 2000's shows to be voted off before the final 10.

This is completely untrue in Dexter's case. The episodes people are actually voting for all aired in the 90s. Hell, the show ended in 98. The movie was 99.

Cartoon Network revived it for a few more seasons in the 00s, but no one is voting for those because they sucked. Not to mention that people have been voting on shows based on what episodes aired in the 90s.

I think Animaniacs is probably a little better because it had slightly better production values and writing, but it was also more formulaic. Every episode going in you knew you'd have your Animaniacs segment, then your "good idea, bad idea" segment, then your Pinky & the Brain, etc."

Tiny Toons had different things going on each episode and mixed and matched the characters.

Also I don't think Animaniacs would exist without the success of Tiny Toons - not that i'm discrediting it because of that.

Yeah, I can't disagree with a lick of that.

I did go back and watch some clips from Tiny Toons a night ago and I was bummed to see how loose the animation felt, especially when compared to Animaniacs. I think I also like Animaniacs a lot more due to how much more original it felt, in the end. Tiny Toons is a little Muppet Babies, but obviously it's not too trashy.

He's better than the powerpuff girls who were nothing more than mary-sues with so-so villains. Darkwing was not just a super hero, but also a secrete agent and, best of all, single father. Plus amazing fucking villains. I love how negaduck is so evil, he could ignore censores.

Wait, there is a 2000s thread already? Or are people referencing a future thread?

Future thread that has been discussed in this thread previously.

Kill: Tiny Toons
Kill: Tiny Toons

Save Superman

Powerpuff Girls villains were one of it's stronger suits. Now if you wanted to talk about the shows sexual innuendos.

So someone PM'ed me about the fact that he wanted to take my thread idea and do a version with Toonami shows, so I got to thinking about how awesome it would be to have a thread like this going a couple to three times a year. So these are the survivor thread ideas I've got so far. If you wanna take on the task of creating them and managing them, let me know. We can make this thing.

i just want to take a look at the shows we have left:

anime:
dbz

superhero:
darkwing duck
superman
batman
batman beyond
gargoyles
ppg

kids being kids:
arnold
rugrats
dexter's lab

anthropomorphic comedy:
rocko's modern life
animaniacs
tiny toons

the simpsons:
the simpsons

here's how i see it: darkwing duck and tiny toons are probably on their way out. this leaves a ridiculous amount of superhero shows left. i think we should do some culling of that category to make a more balanced top ten. in my opinion, batman beyond and superman are the two obviously weaker shows left in that field, and they are extremely redundant with batman: the animated series on there.

of the remaining nicktoons, i think rugrats is the very obvious weak link. it had three good seasons in the 90s, with the 1991 season being shit and everything after coming back from hiatus being worse or mediocre at best. hey arnold and rocko, by comparison, had very strong seasons in the 90s and are all extremely watchable. more than that, they stand out on this list of mostly action shows.

dexter's lab should probably make it to the top ten, but it's not really super great. despite it not being an action show, i would like to see it go before powerpuff girls.

lastly there's animaniacs, and aside from a couple of decent skits, i don't think dressing up old 40s routines and passing it off as new comedy for kids was ever that compelling. there are better and funnier shows in the top ten left, with better slapstick to boot.

Gargoyles and DBZ need to be gone next if Tiny Toons and Darkwing Duck go down this one.
Superman first. World's Finest Lame-O doesn't deserve top ten.

I think you're getting out of hand. Mods might not like the format being reused so much.

see, i don't think that's a good way to look at it. those are all very high quality shows; is diversity really more of a concern than which shows are actually better?

all i see is just one sort of blob sitting there. it's like in the 2000s thread if justice league and justice league unlimited both hit the top 10.

Gargoyles and something, but hopefully not DBZ. Rugrats? I've defended Rugrats up until this point, but the other comedies are stronger. Batman Beyond is also not even the best Batman show on this list... something to think about.
