Well what else is in danger other than Rugrats? At least Gargoyles has Keith David.

DBZ and Superman. By very little.

Arnold has half the points.

Gargoyle's living while either of those shows die is riiiiidiiiicuuuuullouuuusssss.

I don't even care which show gets turned on at this point. One or the other needs to live while Gargoyle's dies.

Honestly Rocko's modern life should have died a bunch of rounds ago..... The only thing memorable about it was how miserable the frog man was in spite of his success.

I can't understand the gargoyles hate. Gargoyles was pretty cool, it dealt with betrayal, identity, and what actually constitutes a family. and burrowed heavily from myths and shakespeare for storylines and ideas. Lastly give it credit for using so many actors from Star Trek Next Generation on the cast and for gueststars.

Kill: DBZ (the abridge version is superior)
Kill: DBZ
Save: Gargoyles

Probably about 12 rounds ago I ran out of shows I didn't watch or care for. It's just been a game to see if my favorites make it.

The magic show episode is really sad. Nine-year-old thinks no one would miss her if she disappeared. Even worse, everyone is shitting on her.

helga's subconscious is a crazy place.

oh and another great episode is 'olga comes home.' it's the first episode with olga and it spends its entire time shitting on her. it's awesome. all the olga episodes are pretty good here, but 'olga gets engaged' is the only one that lives up to the first for me.

He was the hero that we needed, just not the hero that showed up on time.

Edit: I'm not happy with it, but I'll take it. (Remember to let OP post results)

I'll defend it over Arnold, that shows got precious little time left...

i don't recall you ever articulating why you dislike arnold.

anyway i think arnold's a beloved show with some loud detractors. we all saw what happened to reboot, and what's happening to dbz.

There's a show that got almost no saves and a bunch of kills (more before kills had to be swapped around in the last ten minutes). That's the show I'll be using my kill on to begin with. Or were we doing two kills again?

I forgot since yesterday :P

Was it two kills but each has to be on a different show?

The round in which saves make all of the difference
Oh, Wait that's every round.
So it's come down to this, GAF the votes were tallied and these two shows were the ones that you voted off:
  1. Superman with 28 kills and 14 saves -12th Place Overall!
    Supermantasfront.jpg
    and
  2. Gargoyles with 23 kills and 10 saves -11th Place Overall!

Your top 5 were:
  • Dragonball Z with 24 kills and 15 saves
  • Hey! Arnold with 11 kills and 4 saves
  • Rugrats with 10 kills and 4 saves

Top 15:
  • Reboot- 15th Place!
  • Darkwing Duck- 14th Place!
  • Tiny Toons-13th Place!
  • Superman: The Animated Series - 12th Place!
  • Gargoyles - 11th Place!

YOUR TOP 10 GAF is as follows:

  • Rocko's Modern Life
  • Hey! Arnold
  • Rugrats
  • Dexter's Laboratory
  • The Powerpuff Girls
  • Animaniacs
  • Batman:The Animated Series
  • The Simpsons
  • Batman Beyond
  • DragonBall Z
Before you go voting read this!- Rules Changes!
There will be a few rules changes for the top 10 rounds.
Each round, you've got 2 kills. Each of those kills needs to be on a different show. At any point in the next 7 rounds leading up to the top 3, you can use your 1 and only save. Only people that have voted before in this thread get that 1 save to use. At the end of each round, the top (or bottom, depending on how you look at it) show will be eliminated.

Vote Away!

god tier:
batman: the animated series
the simpsons

legend tier:
rocko's modern life
hey arnold!

pretty good alexander... not great, but pretty good tier:
rugrats
powerpuff girls
animaniacs

haha okay, it's in the top ten, joke's over tier:
batman beyond
dexter's lab
dbz

i'm tempted to put rugrats in the lowest tier because there were only a few good seasons of the show in the 90s. however the good stuff was actually pretty good.

so, how many people you think voted Superman off just on the basis of "LOLSUPERMAN"?

Batman Beyond needs to go now just because it shouldn't have gone before Superman.

"Hay, guise! Look at me! I'm a red and blue cape wearing boy scout that's gonna fight the TOY MAN and make it to this Cartoon Survivor's top ten!"

Reboot Retribution is a bitch.

Now go suck a whole artificial island of kryptonite dicks, Smallville.

Don't forget the whole "You don't get a save if you've never voted before" thing Absolution, if we're doing that (I thought we were).

Kill: Rugrats
Kill: Batman Beyond

Rugrats had a couple of great seasons and then a whole lot of bad ones. It got a couple saves, but no one really gushed over it and the only long writeup I've read laid out pretty specifically where it went wrong. I loved it as a kid, but this is tough choices time.

Kill: Rugrats- Do I really need to re-post AniHawk's write up?
Kill: Powerpuff Girls- With Rugrats gone, there's nothing left that doesn't really deserve a high position. PPG is my least favorite of the shows left however.

well dexter's lab made it into the top ten. that's far enough right? i haven't seen anyone really defend that turkey.

Well I'll go into proper Dexter's Lab later but one of the biggest reasons I loved the show was a spin off segment they would do called "Dial M For Monkey". It was about a superhero monkey that would hang out with satirical spoofs of Marvel superheroes. As a early 90's comic reader it was loaded with hilarious inside jokes. It was dumb humor but it's light tone and ton and cheek vibe was pretty great.

One time they had Randy Savage voice an intergalactic wrestler named Rasslor, his performance was simply amazing and it was really fun.

Heck there was an old episode where they spoofed Galactus and called him Barbequor. Here's a youtube vid of it.

kill: batman beyond
kill: dbz

some people think we're looking at the best of the best. 'hah!' i say! let the culling continue. dragon ball z had its time, but it's clearly the worst actual show in terms of pacing/writing/animation/etc. batman beyond's gotta go because the real batman's already here.

Gargoyles going before Batman Beyond was just stupid...

then you should have tried killing batman beyond when there was a group of people trying to kill batman beyond. it could have gone last round.

Batman Beyond needs to go now on the basis that it shouldn't have gone before Superman.

A lot, heh.

Oh well. He took down a show that needed to go ages ago, and considering the usual stigma against Superman, his place on this list is a testament to just how excellent a show he had.

I refused to give in and vote against DBZ. Glad to see Superman beat Reboot though!

Mission Accomplished

Kill: Animaniacs
Kill: Batman: The Animated Series

Didn't watch much of either show as a kid. TAS is probably better than Beyond, but the latter I watched much more.

Prepare for war.

Kill: Rugrats
Kill: DBZ

EDIT: Changed my vote to kill DBZ instead of Hey Arnold!. Both Rugrats and DBZ were amazing shows, but they are both inferior in terms of content when compared to Hey Arnold. Dragon Ball Z was and still is amazing in my books, it's was a masterpiece...for it's time; before the revolution of the internet I, and I bet most of us, didn't know a whole lot about anime other than what was dubbed for after school and saturday morning cartoons. If this thread included other 90's anime then the top 10 would look a lot more different right now; Sure Sailor Moon was in the original list of shows for this thread, but can you imagine what it would be like if Cowboy Bebop was included in this thread? This brings me to think that, in my opinion and despite my choice to save DBZ earlier, that DBZ has no place being in a cartoon survivor (considering that the word cartoon usually applies to western animation). When and if the 90's anime survivor thread is made, then DBZ fans will have every right to support it.

Also, Rugrats was really cool to watch, but when it comes down to the battle of Nickelodeon shows, Hey Arnold! has much more depth. Some episodes may have flown over my head as a kid, but even then some of the episodes had me entranced in stories that were just so outside of that canonical cartoon norm.

Kill: Rugrats
Kill: Batman Beyond

I honestly would have voted rugrats over DBZ last round. Completely forgot it was still in it, it's overstayed it's welcome a bit me thinks.

Everyone forgot. It got like 12 kills on the first page (a couple of them had to be switched at the last minute) and then 4 saves sporadically over the next couple of pages that were just enough to save it.
