So much for Reboot... ah well.

Kill: Hey! Arnold
Kill: DragonBall Z

I never liked Hey! Arnold. I loved Dragon Ball Z up to a point, but the show went to hell midway through the Majin Buu saga, wen it turned into a non-stop fight sequence, episode after episode. I guess the show burned me out at that point.

Batman the Animated series will always be a classic in my mind though, most notably the first season. I never liked the redesigns in season 2 though, even though the second season had a lot of good episodes.
Hey buddy, You sure you wanna use your only save?
New Page reminder.
Each round, you've got 2 kills. Each of those kills needs to be on a different show. At any point in the next 7 rounds leading up to the top 3, you can use your 1 and only save. Only people that have voted before in this thread get that 1 save to use. At the end of each round, the top (or bottom, depending on how you look at it) show will be eliminated.

season one shows more of his flaws. as time goes on, the show actually focuses on him less.

above all else, arnold's an idealist. in arnold's christmas, he thinks he can deliver a miracle (which is a bit of hubris on his part, attributing it to christmas). then, when things don't work out like he wanted, he basically decides there's no such things as christmas miracles. it kills a part of his worldview.

in stoop kid, he's so hellbent on helping stoop kid, he never questions if it's really a good thing. in the end he teaches him how to deal with his agoraphobia, but he winds up creating a more dangerous bully than before.

in season one, he's hopelessly infatuated with ruth, who is pretty shallow. i think if he hadn't met 'cecille', he would have left dinner on valentine's disillusioned with love. in seasons 3 and 4, his relationship with lila is showcased again and again, and he keeps getting rejected no matter what he tries, thinking he might be able to change her mind if he treats her a certain way or acts a certain way around her. sometimes it leaves him melancholic. other times it gets him angry (like arnold's weird cousin).

the other flaw is that he... sort of has a temper. it's not explosive, but it shows up fairly often. at the end of 'the list', he's pissed because not only was he not able to get everything on the list done, but it all went horribly wrong to boot. he retaliates against helga and spills paint on her after she got it on him. he tries to get oskar and susie back together just so he can get oskar out of his place (and berates oskar when it doesn't work out). in 'mugged', he attacks someone when all they were looking for was the bus stop.

he kind of reminds me of aang from avatar: the last airbender, except more low-key.
Those are good points. I guess what I was saying is in most situation Arnold seems to know the solution instinctively. His flaws are less evident than many others in the series, especially Helga.

In "Heat" I saw a dog sweating. This shows has to go.

Votes aren't final until Midnight EST. Recall away.

I've got to say, this thread is less stressful with all the right shows already killed and only quality remaining. The worst left is probably Dexter's Lab, and that's a "least good" scenario.

Some familiar faces look like they've given up on voting after not "getting their way" enough, but the rest seem like good sports.

It definitely took some heavy lobbying at some points, but I guess that's part of the game.

I have no idea which show to vote out next round. I'm assuming Rugrats was killed off.

I'm tempted to look at that spreadsheet but the suspense.

This is pretty exciting. Too bad these also pretty much reveal which shows are going next. I'm thinking I'm voting for PPG next though, no way is it better than any of the other shows.

i want to motion that for the next round (or this current round), votes should only qualify if people explain why they're killing what they're killing. it's the top ten. just give at least a sentence and explain yourself. it promotes discussion and can change minds. that, and it's not really fair to people who are explaining themselves that other shows get killed off for what appears to be no real reason. it's not really a rule change since it was what we were supposed to be doing to have votes count from the start.

Dexter is next for me.

It won't go....

No, we don't need to justify the damned votes...there has been tons of discussion so far, just leave it at that.

i was able to change a lot of minds with discussion of hey arnold, even if it was only for a few rounds. people who have been voting for over the last couple of weeks have given their opinion even on repeat votes. not everyone posts everytime, so sometimes it reaches different posters.

i don't know why you would try to stifle discussion. you haven't given a compelling reason to save rocko's modern life outside of a few syllables and a link to a website showing dirty jokes.

and for the record? i love rocko. it's a top 5 show. i haven't been saving it though, because it's never been in danger, so i don't have a reason to talk about it (yet).

If you're not watching the spreadsheet, I had to wipe the votes and do a recount. Will be another 15-20 minutes until the post is up. Sorry guys. :( Made an error while counting/

Sammich time.

I think it's nice when people discuss why they're voting the way they are, but that rule would nullify a lot of votes.

Who is to say previous votes didn't have errors.

IT'S ALL A SHAM
SUPERMAN DIED BECAUSE OF A SHAM!

Or he mostly died, as he won't stay dead.

i'm not suggesting it for round 28, but round 29. it's not even a rule change. more like a rule enforcement.

i disqualified a lot of game of the year votes between 2005-2008 and 2012 (the 2008 2012 edition vote) for not following the rules.

it's the top ten. i think if you're killing something after all this time, you should at least have a reason.

Discussion doesn't need to be "forced" it's already happening.

And those jokes are reason enough, if not the theme song...if not for all the wonderful inside jokes aside from the dirty ones, it's a fun show, and that's why I'll fight for it

see i like the show. i think it's probably the only one on the list that got better until it ended. it's also one of the first nicktoons with real continuity, which makes it something sort of special.

i think it's just a shame the theme song had to change. season 1 >>>>>>>> season 2-4, easy. season 1 was kind of weird, but boy the theme song was great.

you know, games of the year threads have people explaining their choices for a reason. it's so they don't become a bunch of dumb lists with no one interacting with each other. i think the only interaction here has come out of people trying to sway votes by explaining saves and kills. that's why it's important.

I know you're joking but:

There's a couple of us that do unofficial tallies. If you want to be absolutely sure, the only way is to do your own. So far, the results have always been spot on.

Again there is discussion....it doesn't have to be mandatory.

from the first post:

4.When you vote,You MUST include a reason why you want it gone. It can just be a single sentence if you want.

this is the only rule that's bolded. essentially, it should have been mandatory to have your votes counted. it's been pretty lenient for a while, but now that things are in the top ten, i strongly believe it should be how the thread was originally conceived

I want to agree, but isn't the fact that it was ignored completely/a ton of votes were cast without any explanation proof that people wouldn't notice the new rule (enforcement of the old rule) and that a bunch of votes would need to be trashed?

if that's the case, and if they can't explain themselves, then they shouldn't have posted in the first place. i started about halfway in, but i managed to check out the first post beforehand. that's why i give an explanation every time.

It was so close but just not enough.
This last round was a battle between two shows, Rugrats and Batman Beyond.Just a minimum of 3 votes would have changed the outcome. However, That never came and the show being voted out this round is:
RUGRATS! with 29 kills and 2 saves -10th Place Overall!

Your top 5 was:
  1. Batman Beyond with 28 kills and 3 saves
  2. Dragonball Z with 25 kills
  3. Hey! Arnold with 13 kills
  4. Rocko's Modern Life, Powerpuff Girls and Animaniacs all with 4 kills each

This is my official ruling on the one sentence rule.
I was lax on it before but now that we're in top 10, You should be including a sentence explaining why. Therefore, from now on those without one will be disqualified.
I'm not gonna be a douche, so it doesn't need to be for both kills, Just one.

These posters used their one save so far and cannot save a show anymore:
Spectral Glider
showmeyamoves
tkscz
Goliath
Weekend_Warrior
Markster

Feel free to point it out to me or them if they do.

This is your top 9 GAF!

  • Rocko's Modern Life
  • Hey! Arnold
  • Dexter's Laboratory
  • The Powerpuff Girls
  • Animaniacs
  • Batman:The Animated Series
  • The Simpsons
  • Batman Beyond
  • DragonBall Z

I also want to say that is is kinda stressful tallying the votes so that's why these posts take so long to come out. I also take the time to make them look good too so please excuse the delay.

There was a high number of votes this round: 112! Thanks so much for voting guys and making this thread so successful. I really appreciate it.
VOTING is now OPEN!

My explanation for killing shows at this point would basically be:

Kill: Show A
Kill: Show B

A: It's not Simpsons
B: It's not Simpsons

At this point I don't really care in what order the shows go. I did like many of the shows in the top ten list when I was younger. I just don't have any nostalgia bond with the shows, except for Batman TAS. They go if they go. Daria and Simpsons are only shows that I still care for, I can watch both shows even this day. Too bad Daria was voted off so early.

Kill: Hey Arnold! - Couldn't stand this show. Character designs, voice actors, art direction, I hated all of it.
Kill: Animaniacs - Nice LA-DY! A size six is too small for your fat foot. Good show, but Rita and Runt holds it back BIGTIME.

If it comes down to voters that didn't explain themselves, I'll be salty. Unless it would have killed a show I like. Then I'll be...less salty.

Kill: Batman Beyond
Kill: Dexter

Batman Beyond isn't the best Batman on the list, and it's not as good as Superman or X-men which we've already lost in this competition. It's time.

I'm fine with Dexter going, if the wind blows that way. Probably the day after tomorrow if Batman Beyond stays on the board.

Indeed :(

I'm in the same boat as you except I will go against anyone who votes to kill the Simpsons. Which reminds me, no double votes now right? In the mean time...

Kill: Batman Beyond - Poster who voted against the Simpsons likes this show.
Kill: DBZ - Same reason as above.

kill: DragonBall Z - this is like the 4th time I vote against it
kill: Dexter's Laboratory - good show, but the weakest of the remaining ones besides DBZ (imo). I'm not terribly attached to Dexter, so it can go
