Since she's 17 during S4 it's still creepy to lust after her during this season even though she's already 18 while it's airing. :P

The wait for Winds of Winter is killing me. I might read the sample chapters because I haven't read those or the Dunk and Egg tales yet.

Go read the Dunk & Egg stories. I've read The Hedge Knight and The Sworn Sword and they are incredible. Actually might buy The Mystery Knight tomorrow and read that during the weekend.

Every time I see George R.R. Martin at some event I instinctively yell "GET BACK TO WORK" at my screen. I only read the books last year and the wait is killing me. I don't know how some of you early adopters remain sane.

One more tidbit: HBO has a 15-minute special scheduled to air on Feb 9th. I assume it's like previous seasons and is a talk with the cast and crew about the events of last season leading up to and teasing the new season.
Press release:
Special 'Game of Thrones Ice and Fire: A Foreshadowing' to Premiere Sunday, February 9 on HBO

The 15-minute presentation GAME OF THRONES ICE AND FIRE: A FORESHADOWING will debut SUNDAY, FEB. 9 at 8:45 p.m. (ET/PT), exclusively on HBO, just before the debut of a new episode of “True Detective.” Offering a look back and a look forward to the fourth season of the hit HBO series, the show features clips from upcoming episodes, behind-the-scenes-footage, interviews with talent, and cast members’ answers to questions posed by fans.

..and how does it make them entitled? Just curious.

Eh, suffice to say several non-readers collectively rubbed me the wrong way during the Red Wedding debacle, demanding readers to get banned just because they posted anything in their stupid little thread. I was one of those that tried their damndest to keep the poor illiterates spoiler-free but after that childish display I simply don't give a single fuck anymore whether somebody potentially ruins the show for them or not.

Yeah you can blame the arsehole spamming Grinch gifs for that. Plus when they found out a few people who had been posting 'predictions' had actually read the books paranoia set it.

haha, so much salt.

How many times have you been banned because of talking shit to book readers? 2? 3? :P

To tell the truth, I wouldn't mind if Cornballer made it a rule that no book readers were allowed to post in the other thread at all. They have a question? Let them PM a person in the OP of the thread for the answer. They post something completely wrong? Let them be wrong.

Oh, sorry, I thought you meant all non-readers, not specifically people in the non-reader thread at GAF.

Frankly, I don't think such a rule is enforceable. Not just because someone could lie about being a reader, but it's pretty much a bit of bullshit fascism to tell people that they can't post in a thread on a board that they're a member of. Just IMO. That being said, I'm personally fine with never going into a non-reader thread again. I hate the black bars and I really have zero interest in discussing the show with anyone who hasn't read the books. Half of the fun of discussing the show here in this thread (and IRL with my book-reader friends) is that we're constantly theorizing how they're going to do "this scene" or "that scene", etc.

People from this thread were massive jerks then though. There were people posting passages from the books, loads of gloating, people spoiling stuff. I still think it'd be better if anyone who'd read the books didn't post there.

Amazed that you'd think that thread was childish over that and not this one.

Let's not pretend that Harry Potter is even vaguely comparable as a feat of writing to ASOIAF. They're impressive, but they follow a single point of view and a relatively simple plot line, whereas every ASOIAF book has a metric arseload of POVs, plot lines, characters and settings. If they didn't take a lot longer to write than a Harry Potter novel, there'd be something deeply wrong.

yeah but that's because of that one guy who didn't stick to the plan. all we wanted to is post "the book thread sends its regards" or something like that and then enjoy the reactions. instead that one guy couldn't stop posting silly things, pointing fingers and laughing. I don't remember who it was.

That's nice, insulting people.

Sure but it's a counter-meme/joke to this one:

It's a good zing, I have to say.

Show will finish before the books and it will be the greatest thing ever. All of us will be at the same point as any show only watcher, which is gonna piss off more than a few people because they love the feel of elitism they get from knowing what's coming up when their buddy or significant other doesn't. Also when people go in the no spoiler threads and make comments like "you guys will love what's coming up!" "I can't wait for your reaction after THAT scene!" such a dickish move, especially when it was around the red wedding time. Grrm is the slowest author I've ever followed, lol
