1990's Cartoon Survivor (Do-Over)

PPG is now where near Rocko's level. Rocko was a hilarious show, with top notch writing and far better and more subtle adult humor. PPG should've been gone in my opinion.

The fact that the Power Puff Girls is still on the list is a joke and pretty much makes this whole thing a farce. Legitimate good 90's shows like Doug and Ahh Real Monsters got voted out 20 places ago, but a 2000's show for girls might make it to the top 5?

The fuck is this? I voted PPG off, but give me a break. The show started in the 90's, and what the hell does it matter if its "for girls" (which I don't even think is the case)?

It had barely more then 1 year in the 90's, the majority was in the 2000's. It was part of the De'x Lab/ Johnny Bravo/ Ed, Edd, and Eddy, etc block that sprung up after the real 90's cartoons started to decline or go off air. It's not a 90's show in spirit or timeline.

And it's a show about superhero girls, which is clearly intended to appeal mostly to girls, and since the demographic of GAF skews heavily to males I highly doubt a lot of people here watched or enjoyed it as much as other shows and the only reason it's skated under the kill line this far is because people are making back-deal doors to kill off shows they don't personally like but have strong support. And I know that's been happening because I've gotten PM's about it.

Fuck no, Powerpuff girls was great. It very much was not a show made only for girls at all which would be obvious to anyone who actually watched it.

once again, the only Dexter's Lab episodes anyone actually cares about aired in the 90s. if the shitty revival pops up in the 2000s thread it's probably going to get voted off really damn quick.

It's original short premiered in the mid 90's, and the show premiered in 98. In both spirit and timeline it fits. If we want to get anal about this, I'd say The Simpsons' inclusion is more suspect, having technically debuted in the 80's, and the majority of its time on the air being post 90's.

As for the comment about it being a show for girls, the show was immensely popular, with its success stretching across ages and genders. Your presumption that no one here actually liked the show because it starred girls is baseless.

It was not immensely popular, it ran for 5 years. Spongebob Square Pants was/is immensely popular, started only 6 months after PPG and was voted out long ago.

The show was a ratings and merchandise juggernaut for Cartoon Network, consistently among its top shows (or its top show) in the ratings. The reason it didn't get a new season is because the showrunners decided not to continue. You're beginning to reach.

I'm beginning to reach? You're the one calling the show a "juggernaut".

Kill: Rocko's modern life (same as yesterday)
Kill: Dexter (the time has come to kill my beloved shows, this is a mercy killing to save PPG which were phenomenal).

Seems that tomorrow I will need to save animaniacs, when its in absolute danger when people finish off Dexter or PPG

Were you not the one who said it was a show for girls, so clearly the men of GAF didn't like it as much as other shows?

I said it was "intended to appeal mostly to girls, and since the demographic of GAF skews heavily to males I highly doubt a lot of people here watched or enjoyed it as much as other shows." That's not the same at all as saying it "had no appeal outside of 6-11 year old girls", and considering we're at the final 7 shows I don't consider that an outrageous statement at all.

This list was a farce when Samurai Pizza Cats was eliminated on like the first day. Don't forgive them Lord, for they know not what they do and I don't care, they deserve to go to hell!

Would it make you feel better if I said "with little appeal outside of 6-11 year old girls"?

I do not accept your premise that it was intended to appeal mostly to girls at all. If anything, it was successful as a show precisely because it reached a very wide range of demographics. Aside from the main characters being girls, name one other thing about the show that was designed to appeal to just little girls? Even then, the fact that the heroes are little girls was intended as a subversion of the traditional superhero trope.

Quit being so obtuse. Next thing you're going to tell me is Barbies weren't intended to appeal to girls and GI Joes weren't intended to appeal to boys. Like most shows it was written in a way that could be enjoyed by both sexes and of all ages, but the theme and visual style is clearly about appealing primarily to girls, just like that Pony show.

I'm making the same two hits that I did last time, for the same two reasons:

Kill: Hey! Arnold
Kill: DragonBall Z

DBZ has already been voted out.

What about the theme and the visual style is clearly appealing to girls?

Here's screencaps from three shows. Tell me which one is clearly appealing primarily to girls and why

Oh I DON"T KNOW, maybe the considerable use of PINK and other PASTEL COLORS. Lets just keep playing this fucking game.

You grossly overestimate the amount of pink used on the show, maybe you should actually watch it before passing judgement. Also,pPastel colours are only meant for girls now? Really? Hey Wander over Yonder uses a lot of pastel colours too. I guess that's a girl's show too.

No I'm not.

You're doing the same damn thing the other guy was doing. Everytime you can't make an argument you act like I was talking in definitive. I never said ONLY, I said they appeal more to girls then boys. Go google girls bed sheets and tell he what colors you see.

You think PPG is comparable to my little pony and barbies?!?!

The show was violent and action heavy. It used the premise of little girls as a SPOOF. It was a joke! It was a action heavy anime influenced show.

You know literally nothing about PPG.

Even if there was a girly show in the final 10 proclaiming a show shouldn't win because its for girls is bizarre and the talk of a elementary school boy.

No I'm not.

Yes you are. Here's the intro to the show How much pink is there? Is it really a predominant colour there?

You said the visual style was CLEARLY appealing to little girls. Then you used pink (which is inaccurate) and pastel colours as examples. So excuse me if I thought you were talking in the definitive especially after you called me obtuse for not seeing your obvious reasoning. Anyways so what? Like I said, many cartoons use pastel colours so just because PPG uses it doesn't mean that it's aimed at little girls. If pastels aren't definitively for girls, then prove that PPG's use of it was.'

You also implied that it was as obvious as seeing Barbies are for girls and GI Joes are for boys. Even if PPG had as much pink as Barbie, it also has more violence than GI Joe (hell it actually shows blood and maiming) so how exactly is it as obvious?

Yeah clearly not an above average use of pink in this show, hell I see pink trees in all the shows I watch, and certainly no pink bias in the related video to the right.

I'm done having this conversation with you.

Oh shit pink trees and youtube related videos! My argument is invalid!

Oh wait I can play this game too

What? Green and blue trees as well? What is this mad world?

I'm done having this conversation with you.

Good, quit while you're behind

I enjoyed PPG a lot and I'm a man. The color pallet was used as a contrast to what was actually happening on the show (them kicking bad guy ass, getting their asses kicked, etc). It wasn't a fluffy show like you'd imagine it would be based on the colors.

PPG is kind of too violent for a little girl's show, man. lol

Kill: Dexter's lab. Season 3 and beyond were so awful. I know those seasons were probably in the 00s but they tainted my love for the show overall.

i could have sworn i was watching the power puff girls the day of my grandfather's funeral.

i just found out that was the first episode.

Throwing in my save for Dexter's Lab. Not much I want to go besides PPG and I can't see using it any other time than this.

Figured it'd be better to put it in a seperate post at this point but I can go back and edit my old post if needed.

Put it in your main post to help the OP out/ take it out of that post.

I'm just watching from the sidelines, however I will say in regards to Dexter's Lab that I'm not sure what this whole season 3 and 4 business is about. There was no season 3 and 4. They don't exist. Also PPG was legit funny, regardless of the show's aesthetic. Truthfully, I could have easily seen it become today what MLPFIM is, though bronies still creep me the fuck out.

Also Genndy Tartakovsky was a 90's cartoon Midas. Wish he was still active in the business.

I want to watch MLP someday, in hopes of pinpointing the exact moment where it went from obviously for very small girls to obviously for very small girls and very not small men.

Kill: Animaniacs
Kill: Powerpuff Girls

Never liked Animaniacs much, annoying, etc. Enjoyed Powerpuff Girls but not as much as the remaining shows.

The fact that the Power Puff Girls is still on the list is a joke and pretty much makes this whole thing a farce. Legitimate good 90's shows like Doug and Ahh Real Monsters got voted out 20 places ago, but a 2000's show for girls might make it to the top 5?

Yikes, pretty awful post. I wouldn't even shit on MLP in a 2010s thread in such a stupid way.

What if you end up liking it? Will it diminish your high school popularity? Be careful.

Kill: PPG
Kill: Animanicas
Save: Dexter's Lab

Always liked dexter compared to the rest... ppg and animaniacs were ok but not as memerable as dexter.

MLP and PPG have a lot in common - Laua Faust and her husband helped create PPG and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends before they worked on MLP. First season MLP is actually a surprisingly decent, fun show with many likeable characters if you can live with the the fact that everyone's a cartoon pony
Then came the dreaded bronies, subsequent seasons weren't quite as good and the show started losing it's appeal

really looking forward to the 2000's thread now. Are we going to nominate shows for the next survivor in this thread once we're finished here?

My high school popularity can diminish retroactively?

People have told me that it was just a normal show until the demographics changed and it got weird. That's what I meant by my post; In the context of hindsight being 20/20, I'd love to see exactly where (if it was a line in the sand) or how that thing turned.
