I expect an alpha test invite in my inbox soon.

Sincerely,

PXG

Gotta make sure y'all know what you're doing and if I need to slap the collective shit outta you

Just like no one cares about GoW after Ascension, right?

Do people still care about God of War? Because from the games media people I listen to the answer seems to be no.

A lot of people want God of War to take a break... even Pure GOW fans that I know (unless it is a direct sequel)

Hopefully it is seeing as rumors indicate SSM is making some new I.Ps

Not sure about gears though...both sold prematurely due to both being prequels (With Ascension where Kratos was stripped of most his arsenal in GOW 3 and fought less Epic Monsters due to the timeline of where the game took place same with Gears)

To note though... by break they mean that they still want a game but in a later date instead of it coming in a year or two

This news has nothing to do with that proclamation. Sony milks existing IPs too. This is nothing new.

Sony does Milk IP, but most have a history of either maintaining their quality whilst also "New" IP is being created, since they have lots of 1st party studios to do it.

Thing is with this and Microsoft, they could like do with new IP, creatively Gears was hitting a wall and that was with EPIC under the helm, altho they probably burnt out. This is part of the reason I stopped playing my 360, the regurgitation of the same games, I hope its not the vision of the future of X1.

The positive way of looking at it, was Halo did well with a new studio. Black Tusk have alot to live up too.

Other than the potential sales advantage of a new Gears game, I really don't see the advantage of this over a new IP.

A: Do people actually think Black Tusk would rather work on Gears than a new IP? It just limits their creative freedom and puts them in a box in terms of what they can do with it.

B: If they stray too far from the Gears philosophy, they will anger existing Gears fans. If they don't stray far enough, it will be "just another Gears" game without any innovation.

We pretty much know what we're going to get with a Gears game, and it puts a lot of pressure on Black Tusk to live up to that expectation. A new IP on the other hand can be exciting and fresh in ways we don't expect, which is pretty important when going into a new generation.

MS just want to make sure Xbone life cycle will be exactly like 360, don't they?
No. Last gen, Gears came out before Halo. This gen, Halo will come out before Gears. :p

(They want to release new games in their most successful franchises. There's nothing wrong with that. It's too early to tell if this gen will play out excactly the same as the last)

Well, my lack of excitement for Gears is at least consistent, but I notice some drastically altered opinions from only just a few weeks ago. It's amazing how quickly people can sour on a franchise they seemingly wanted to so badly appear on the PS4 the very moment they find out the door has been shut on that possibility. Plus, I think Uncharted is a better franchise.
After the last coupe of games, I really don't know many people who enjoy Gears anymore. I have several friends who did the MLG thing with Gears 1. They soured on the game with each new iteration. They tried to enjoy the MP competitively, but the games never delivered after 1. Reminds me of what Epic did to Unreal Tournament. Each release losing a little momentum until UT3, where the franchise effectively died.

Maybe a new studio can inject some life back into it.

Oh, boo Microsoft!

I like Gears of War fine enough and am OK with it continuing, but I'd much rather it have happened the way 343 happened where the talent formed around people who knew the franchise hiring a new team specifically dedicated to making the next chapters of it. Organic and rousing approach.

This, you have this new team that's been built up for a while as the next big thing, talented enough to potentially make the next big thing, in a time of stagnation where Microsoft could really use the next big thing... and they're strapped in to last generation's big thing and nothing else?

2014
Halo
Forza
Quantum Break

2015
Gears
Forza
Sunset Overdrive
Lionhead

2016
Halo
Forza

2017
Gears
Forza

Some Kinect Sports, Xbox Fitness, Rare if another team actually does something. TV TV TV.

I wonder why epic sold such a block buster franchise , when they had a potential to triple that 22 million sold by bring it to other platforms?

Overdrive's confirmed for 2014. Come no; hyperbole's ridiculous at this point. It's not even a full year of current gen, and we're getting half baked 'predictions' like these.

This, Phil is totally ignoring questions about new IP.

If they think they can get away with Halo, Gears, Fable and Forza again this gen they can go fuck themselves.

And no buying exclusives doesn't count, because we all know 4 years in they'll give up on that.

Just about sums it up. I'd be willing to bet that their exclusive support already starts dying out next year tbh. What happened with the X360 was just sad, so I'll expect the same thing from the X1 as soon as MS starts on their Gen 9 console.

They got their hands full with other projects and well...China.

I think Judgment releasing with 4 maps was indicative of the little time they have for that IP.

Halo got better after Bungie stopped making them, maybe the same will happen with Gears
Even though I'm a huge gears fan, gears 1 and 2 were disasters online 80% of the time. Having a reliable online with dedicated serverd would make the next gears game better than two of the three epic made gearsgames (online at least). Judgement always seemed like an expansion pack.

fuck

i really dont want to get a one :/

but gears...

They are likely burnt out on the franchise creatively, Perhaps felt they took it as far as they could (I agree, under them) Plus they lost staff due to lack of creative freedom as far as I know.

They basically cashed in, probably get money from the unreal engine licence also and get to create a new IP (hopefully Multi-platforum)

I thought it was a xbox exclusive allready? You'll learn something new everyday.

It was but Epic owned the rights so they got the say on whether another one would get made or not. I'm guessing this will open the way for another Gears game or maybe trilogy package of some sort. My only question is I thought Black Tusk was working on a game for MS? Are they going to keep working on it or will it get pushed back in favor of gears?

It's hilarious reading the "Sony needs to learn" stuff.

There's a reason why Sony demands 100% IP ownership of all the games they fund/publish. So that they never have to fork out extra cash to buy rights to something that they paid the money to make in the first place.

Of course, the downside is that Sony will not be first-choice publisher for the select group of devs who insist on wanting to own their own IP ( Respawn-Titanfall, Crytek-Ryse, etc ), but you win some, you lose some.

Pros and cons to every approach.

Halo got better after Bungie stopped making them, maybe the same will happen with Gears

I respect the hell out of Bungie, but I agree with this. Not sure if you were serious, but I sure as hell am. I'm still not so excited about a new Gears, though, but I would love to be surprised.

Gears fans were likely to buy xbox either way. Don't see this taking sales from Sony at all.
You don't think we are going to see a spike in xbox sales around the release of halo 5? What about ps4 sales and uncharted 4?

Either way, this is a big get and I highly, highly doubt ms is going to lose money out of the deal. The gears ip has the potential to be extremely versatile.

Halo 5 will make or break the Halo franchise. It will tell us all we need to know about 343 at the helm.
The only part of Halo that has any hope of getting fixed is the multiplayer, but it will never be as big as it once was, so I don't know if keeping half of what the game used to be on life support counts as "making it".
Halo campaigns and its larger universe are broken beyond any repair. Gears is in a slightly better position, because that story wrapped up so neatly, the next one would more or less have to start anew no matter who's in charge.

Acquiring Crash and Spyro and make more games with them.

I was going to say that it would be like Sony buying the Crash and ditching ND. Stupidly shortsighted.

In this case they wouldn't have been able to buy Epic who I imagine like their freedom. Buying the IP is a smart move, but there's no guarantee that Black Tusk can deliver.

Halo and Gears, both of Microsoft's flagship titles, no longer developed by their creators.

That's the issue here. Bungie and Epic knew their respective franchise all too well.

343 made their own Halo. The reception wasl lukewarm. Let's see what Black Tusk does to Gears of War.

I'd rather have MS create a new franchise.

Who, specifically, are these people you are referring to? You shouldn't make a post like this without linking to the posts of the people who contradict themselves (like coldfoot did in the post that gave you your tag). Just talking in general about "people" is lazy, and worse, not falsifiable. How are we to know that these inconsistent people exist anywhere outside of your own head if you don't show us where to find them? Your post comes dangerously close to the "but GAF said" hivemind reasoning that shits up so many threads.
