Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

You first have the sparring hall (which is optional, but if you skipped it and then struggled with the controls, well maybe you shouldn't skip it) and then the cave to rescue the bird. Not everything has to presented as a tutorial. It's weird, because Zelda often gets criticised for too many tutorials and hand-holding but here we're having the opposite complaint.

Numerous times ive seen the opposite situations happen in skyward sword with more experienced players who didnt know where to go or didnt know how to do this thing in the game, and then only hear that the the game holds your hand too much.

the controls were the least of skyward sword's concerns. it's okay though, now we can all play link between worlds over and over and over and forget all about ss ^_^

anyways

how bout them smash bros

Is the hitstun really that long for Yoshi's Dair?

The Beetle is a pretty fun item, especially when upgraded. My fondest moment with it was when I used it to drop a Hornet's nest onto a Bokoblin. I'm happy it is in Smash Brothers.

So Link either has a second beetle, or it reloads as soon as you use one.

Pic of the day. The Beetle item from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is a comical item that grabs characters and carries them into the air.

I really like the beetle item, and I hope that it's one time usage.

Since people kept teaming up Diddy and Dixie but Diddy already got his own moveset. I would to present the idea where Cranky and Dixie could team up. Both characters could have good mix up moves, like Dixie would have pink bubble trap in the air, awhile cranky could have floor trap with his fake teeth trap. Their tag should be fast so they could able to make the combo with the trap moves.

I would like dixie by herself or cranky by himself.

Dixie on account of, Diddly is already by himself and that would be super weird. Also I think her hair could allow numerous move set possibilities.
... Because she can whip her hair back and fourth.

And 2, cranky kong is OG kong so if you are putting OG kong in smash bros, he is going in by himself. Just respect for the man. Who started it all.

Your idea is interesting though.

I really dislike long combos in PVP fighting/combat games. Things like the ice climbers near infinite grab in Brawl, or someone being air juggled for 5-10 seconds while they can't do anything are not really fun to me to watch I think, and they surely can't be fun to experience.

I would rather watch shorter combos and back and forth action than seeing someone being unable to respond. It's kind of like a monologue instead of a dialogue. :P

The "comical item" looks like it is a one shot item, so link probably has a second

Todays pic was great I love the Beetle as a weapon

Ah, good, DaBoss posted the clean image, so I don't have to. Saves me the hassle! :P

I... actually haven't played much Skyward Sword. Like, I made it to the first dungeon, but stopped in the middle of it. I liked what I saw, but my arm was feeling hella sore from playing it; then I obtained Xenoblade and wound up prioritizing that (still haven't finished it...).

Candy and Dixie are completely different sizes. It would look off.
It probably shouldn't bother me as much as it does that that isn't the Hook Beetle.
Ahh, that's why I didn't recognize it lol. I didn't remember the un-upgraded Beetle's design.

I'm guessing it would be harder to animate and would have some obvious clipping if they used the Hook Beetle's design.

When playing SS, I always had my arm on my lap, rarely lifting them. You don't have to keep your arm in the air the entire time.

The Beetle seems like it will be hilarious. Grab characters and aerial/spike them.

Probably a regular item right? Not part of Link's moveset?

Well, I'm not saying I want Fi interruptions up the butt or w/e, but I wished there was something more involved than just attacking stationary dummies. They could've set that aside as an optional tutorial instead of interrupting the intro pacing, but since technically that's what they already did, I suppose I'm out of luck.

I can never feel that involved in motion-intensive Wii games unless I have my arms raised, so it really is just a matter of taste/comfort. Despite my issues with the actual game, Skyward Sword didn't really provide any discomfort for me.

Huh, I just noticed that since those Palutena pics dropped, the flux of list rumors has dropped. Maybe they're too timid now that everyone expects pics now lol.

The beetle should have replaced Link's boomerang whilst Toon Link could have kept his boomerang. That would have made more sense.

The Beetle is an item, right?

I imagine it picks up a target, holds him up in the air for several seconds, allowing others to get in a bunch of hits, and then drops him.

If that's how it is, it'd be overpowered as a regular attack.

You guys should just post an awesome melee gif every night at 11:00.

That can be arranged!

I don't get it. Yoshi hits Fox in the air and get hits him in the air. Isn't that basic Smash gameplay?

Even a baby could provide a more thoughtful explanation than that! Have you even played Smash Bros before? ;)

Also, I guess this just goes to show how many people have played Yoshi before... that's actually his forward air connecting with Fox, lol. His dair is the flutter kick.

I have no desire to play Smash 4 with anything other than a Gamecube controller. If there isn't an adapter made, it looks like M2K will get something done. I'm primary reason I'm not hyped for Smash 3DS is the lack of Gamecube controller/having to try and play Smash with that piece of shit 3DS circle pad. I'll probably only play Smash 3DS for a couple hundred hours and never again... it won't hold up.

I dont know why everybody says it is the TP design, they look almost the same to me, i think Link in Smash 4 is more based on the SS design with the baggy pants.
Because it is.

Like Zelda, his clothing is more colorful to fit in with the rest of the characters, but he's clearly still based on his Twilight Princess design.

Link looks like a hybrid of the TP and SS designs. For example, he has SS Link's silver mail (instead of gold mail) and the gold bottoms to his boots, while his gauntlets and facial features are closer to TP Link.

SSB4 Link's shade of green is always between the darker TP green and the brighter SS green.

Everything in SSB4 Link's design comes from Twilight Princess Link save for the color choices here and there (and I'm not convinced those are based on SS Link at all). The boots, the arm guard, the strap across his body, his belt, the belt buckle, the Hylian Shield design, the Master Sword design, etc. Even his bow and bombs are clearly their TP incarnations.

Shame too, since SS link is probably the most aesthetically pleasing adult link in some time. His lips were a little weird, but I was hoping they'd fix that for the upcoming smash. Alas, it just wasn't meant to be.

I'm fine with TP Link, but I wish they'd make his face in this one look less weird.
