XBLA (Xbox Live Arcade) News, Announcements, Reviews, and Impressions Thread

Is Catherine worth $10? Quick summary?

One of my top 10 games of the generation. Bought it for the story (it's Persona-like, gameplay wise, where you'd have to investigate a mystery through talking to people and looking for clues in their dialogue), but when I got to play the actual puzzle parts I fell in love with it. Check out some YouTube videos before you bite, since the theme and style might not be for everyone, but I'd say $10 is a steal.

Just bought an Xbox One--which is better: Crimson Dragon or Max: Curse of Brotherhood?

Most would probably say Max. I was more attracted to Crimson Dragon, though. It's short stages, emphasis on high score runs, beautiful music, and old school Sega-feel made it one of my most played games until I finally beat it.

Max is probably seen by most to be more technically proficient, it's has good puzzles, charming voicework, good controls, and just seem like a well-produced product. It's not even my type of game generally, but I find it quite charming.

And for future reference, THIS is probably the thread where you want to talk about Xbox One Downloadable games.

Not really sure if this is the right topic but Tomb Raider DE is showing up on the store as a new release but the price says unavailable and you can't buy it, this happening for anyone else?

As stated above, probably purchaseable in a few hours. Max, Halo Spartan Assault, the Dead Rising DLC... I've seen all those go through similar phases.

It's the XB1 equivalent of the 360's "Info page is up, but no items are available!" pre-release signals.

Looking like a decent sale for me; gonna pick up Shank 2, Final Exam and Blood Knights. The latter isn't looking too good but the other two seem fine, especially Shank.

Also, anyone who even sort-of likes sidescrolling action NEEDS to get Moon Diver. Ridiculously overlooked XBLA game.

Alice: Madness Returns is for less than €8 is tempting, but I've heard the gameplay is pretty basic and can get quite monotonous, so I'd pretty much be buying it for impressive hair physics.

Also, Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds doesn't seem available in Europe. Blerugh.

Updating at the moment, double check prices before buying. I'll update throughout the day.
Everything is listed in USD. Check your region for local prices.

Some UK prices seem a bit... off.

Alice MR - US $7.39, UK £5.54
Crysis 3 - US $14.79, UK £18.49
Dead Space - US $7.49, UK £7.49

Anyone interested may need to wait and see if the prices stabilise.

Reminder for everyone: This is the first time Mass Effect 3: Citadel has been on sale anywhere. If you're at all interested in playing the trilogy on 360, pick it up while you can.

Catherine is a Fantastic game(Great Soundtrack), although i got it for $5 on LIVE a while back. Still a great price.
When was that? (I hope you don't mean you got a 1200 MSP code for $5 and used it to buy the game at $15.)

I'm really tempted to get Kingdom's of Amalur. I've heard it is not amazing or anything but is it worth it at that price?
It's a pretty lengthy game; if you like it, I doubt that you'll feel like you didn't get enough bang for your buck. With that being said, you can get it for reasonably cheap elsewhere - it's been on sale with the DLC for ~$10 on PC several times, and used physical copies are <$20 if you want something you can sell if you don't like it.

Will changing your payment region to US, like some people need to for payments on Xbox One, give any problems (also if you want to change back sometime)?

I think so, because the 360 is region locked. And apparently, those who dared use this method and are caught, are banned from xbox live.

Citadel finally on sale!?
I have bought all the story DLC so far despite not playing them yet. Was waiting for all to come out, and finally Citadel is here.

And Catherine keeps tempting me. It's one of those that intrigues me, but I am not certain how much I'll enjoy it.

And I just saw Mirror's Edge too!
That title is regarded pretty highly, but I never played it. $5 ain't bad either.

Also Citadel is listed strangely on my HDD.
Back in the day I installed part 2 (the free), but it says part 1/2.
But the one that has to be bought is 1/2. Shouldn't one of them be 2/2?

Yes and the 2 DLC's where pretty good also.

Try the demo if it's still up there...if you get frustrated and cant even finish the demo, like it happened to me,it's not for you.

ok, A year. Still. It's $7.

I didn't NEED to play it so I waited for a sale. Now that it's 50% off I bought it and I will probably play it at some point. True, $7 wouldn't have killed me, but I spent $5 last week to buy Dark Souls so for the same price as $15 Citadel I got both Citadel and Dark Souls.

There's nothing wrong with waiting for sales on stuff you don't really need.

Citadel came out last February.

Also, can anyone comment on Contrast?

The Bridge and Contrast came out in the same week. Back then, I tried the Contrast demo out and found it wasn't for me. I usually love puzzle games but I didn't like the mechanics in Contrast at all. The jumping felt too loose and floaty, and I didn't enjoy the shadow melding, unique as it was, and I didn't enjoy the art style or what little of the story I saw. I ended up just getting The Bridge - a decision I'm very happy with.

Kingdoms of Amalur on sale...damn. I really don't want to add any RPGs to my backlog. I already decided against Skyrim and Borderlands. But I always LOVED the Kingdoms of Amalur demo back when ME3 first came out. The forest is so beautiful and colourful.

I guess I'll fire up the demo again and see if it sparks a fire inside me. Any tips on achievements and playthroughs if I decide to get it? Best class to play as?

Released today,

Rekoil: Liberator - 15$ (1200msp), 654MB.

It's the PC version though, which is obviously going thorugh some horrible stuttering issue there. Good chance that's not the case on the Xbox version. Still, multiplayer FPS games on XBLA haven't been goof for a long while, Battlefield 1943 still was the best for me, so I don't have much hope for this one.

The Steam forum is full of complaints (more than the usual amount) about the game too. IT makes Battlefield 4 seem stable in comparison. Not all are related to rig issues either. Would have very little faith in this been a quality release.

If anyone wants some slightly discounted XBL credit, CrazyGameTime has them at around 10% off, and there's a promo code on the front page for an extra 5% off orders of two XBL codes. I ordered two $10 codes for a little over $17 earlier today; delivery took about ten minutes at 3PM Eastern.

Will this work for Canadians? I will try this later today.

I was about to say that there's no way Microsoft cert would let that through but then I remembered that MS basically stopped certifying. So it's going to be unplayably laggy AND it'll freeze every other time you try to load a match...

I don't know about all that. Hybrid had a really cool idea and was a well-made game, if suffering from a lack of maps and worthwhile combat situations within those maps. Blacklight is the best CoD clone out there. Nexuiz was a really fun throwback to the Q3A era. Counterstrike is Counterstrike. Gotham City Impostors is probably the most poorly balanced FPS I've ever played but that's what makes it fun; it's also a very competent CoD clone besides that.

Holy shit, Citadel is FINALLY on sale. Been waiting for that since black friday.

Shame about the other DLCs not being cut, but I think I'll finally jump on them.

Checked out Rekoil and it's unsurprisingly not very good. The basic gunplay is fine, if a little lackluster, and the maps are okay, if a bit lacking in logical cover and thought-through combat situations, and the weapon selection is good, if a little obviously stolen from CoD (they even included the Type-25), so it would overall have been a decently average multiplayer FPS if it hadn't been for the god damn lag. Every match is like a joke and every encounter feels like you could just as well just toss your controller in the air and get as many kills by getting lucky with your controller landing on RT. It's hard to tell if it's the netcode or the small playerbase and it's not like it matters; either way, the game is pretty unenjoyable.

The 360 version doesn't have the stuttering from Sterling's video, though, so there's that. And it's cool that shotguns can actually damage people further away than like 2 feet.

Thanks for the impressions. Isn't this the game that got delay right before release?
