Waka Waka...wara wara...it all makes sense. The clues to the next newcomer were there in front of our eyes all along!
A rivals trailer featuring clips of Mario vs. Wario, Kirby vs. Meta Knight, and Fox vs. Wolf would be nice. They could even throw in clips of Snake with the Gray Fox AT and Sonic with Shadow. There could also be dedicated series trailers (Mario, Pokémon, Zelda), and maybe a third-party trailer. (We're never going to get any of those, though. Oh well.)

You sum up my feelings for the most part. The current roster relies too heavily on Gen 1 but then again the only character I could point to that doesn't make sense would be Jigglypuff in terms of relevancy. In terms of gen 6, I think giving the pokemon mega evolutions would be fine. I'm not sure how but I'd like to see Mewtwo's two different mega evolutions somehow incorporated into its moveset not just its final smash. However I couldn't see how it work outside of having Mewtwo transform between its X&Y form. Its X form would be faster and more physical attack oriented while Y would play similar to Melee Mewtwo. Then again I imagine just as many if not more meltdowns than Lucario's anouncement if Mewtwo X/Y is playable but not its original design.
I'd love to personally play as that set but I think that focuses too much on 6th gen. Come next Smash people would complain that the 6th gen trainer was flavor of the week and that it should be replaced by another pokemon rep. After all so far of the anounced/expected characters Gens 2, 3 & 5 get zero representation.

I believe with Jigglypuff being moved into the new and rare Fairy type, its relevancy has been increased.

Seeing as they're not forcing Mega Lucario on you by default, I'd say they won't do it with Mewtwo, either. If the Mega forms are in, they're either 1) a Final Smash, or 2) a temporary form change caused by some other condition (I.E. when Lucario hits 200% or higher, his aura grows so strong that he Mega Evolves, reverting back once he's been KO'd).
Doesn't make sense without the trainer to cause it, but then a lot of things don't make sense in Smash vs. the games being sourced.
EDIT: A third possibility might be a move- or taunt-induced form change, I.E. Zero Suit Samus, at which point you stay in Mega form until you're KO'd.

Quilava would be great. Probably my fave fire mid stage starter along with Braixen.
Wartortle being my only fave water mid starter.
I have not liked any of the grass starter mid stages.

Yeah thatd be cool as well. Have a male and female pokemon trainer since there are 6 gens they could split the gens and have the most popular starters of each gen. Male trainer can swap between Charizard, Greninja, & Serperior. Female trainer could swap between Blaziken, Empoleon & Meganium or something like that.

Really the only starter forms I liked from gen 2 are quilava and totodile, I dont think gen 2 starters really stuck out that much tbh. Id say the most popular starters currently would be Charizard, Blaziken & Greninja with that in mind that leaves room for one more water and two more grass starters from different gens. Id say the 4th gen grass starter would be near impossible to make work as a fighter so that leaves 2nd and 5th gen as the grass starters; that was my logic anyway. 2nd and 4th gen had pretty forgettable starters.

I keep telling you guys, you can't just do the "evolution diversion" for the XY starters because unlike the other Pokemon starters, they all have signature moves learnable only in their final evolutions.
