What's the source for these reveals? Must be a Japanese only site I'd assume.
My revised 50 character expected/dream roster:

Sheik, Zero Suit Samus, Charizard/Squirtle/Ivysaur, and Tetra (or Toon Sheik) are considered unique characters, they just don't have dedicated spaces on the select screen.I only see 45.
Toon Zelda is awful. We don't need her and we don't (most of us) want her.

Y'know, I'm really gonna need either Shulk or Wonder Red/Wonderful 100 to be happy with the roster.
These aren't the dates these characters were revealed, only the dates that their entries were posted to the Dojo. All of the above characters, except Fox, were revealed in a trailer at E3 2006. Fox was revealed in a trailer that came later in 2006 (don't remember the exact date.)
Add both, Little Mac, and one more, plus a slot for Random, and I think I'd be good.Y'know, I'm really gonna need either Shulk or Wonder Red/Wonderful 100 to be happy with the roster.
Yeah, I missed it at first, and noticed it right before you posted this. Oops.I guess you didn't see my previous post, but yeah. I know that. I'm following with websites' reveal dates. BTW it's Nov 3, 2006 for Fox's trailer.

Shulk will be playable damn it, HE WILL BE PLAYABLE!
You know, if that is the roster we'd end up with, it kinda would feel lame. There's not really any characters there that seem to be weird and new in terms of gameplay or just being there - Wii Fit Trainer and Rosalina really are the only choices here that would qualify for that.

I need this blade to be in the hands of a playable character, not an assist trophy.

I wouldn't object to the roster, but it just lacks the ROBs and Lucarios and Olimars of Brawl, if you know what I mean.
I'm also hoping for more than 8 newcomers.
If that's the case then who would you personally like to see? That potential roster is pretty good minus Ridley.
Takamaru isn't a safe pick. It would really be a lucky guess for many people.
I see what you mean I feel the same way, Wii Fit Trainer is the best newcomer so far easily, granted Mega Man was hype and people doubted he might ever get in because of Capcom's lack of support for him these days but Wii Fit Trainer technically isn't even a CHARACTER compared to Mega Man. Takamaru and Ridley are who I really want but if Sakurai put like Mach Rider in or Shulk I'd get mega hype. There's nothing better than obscure or silly characters.I want Sakurai to surprise me. All of the characters on Ryce's list are such "safe" picks. The wacky character choices are what makes Smash so charming, in my opinion. I enjoyed it with 64 and having Falcon and Ness, I enjoyed it with Melee having G&W and Ice Climbers, and I enjoyed it with Brawl and the aforementioned characters.
Even though I'm probably in the minority.

An obscure Japan-only IP that had "a game within another game" and it had a cameo in another obscure Japan-only game.
EDIT: Forgot about Nintendo Land, but if you think about it, it is the only ninja/samurai IP related thing they have, they probably dug deep for that one.
Takamaru is a safe pick to me if only because his game was featured in Nintendo Land. Otherwise, I would agree with you.Though I also think that he too would be a really boring character - yet another swordsman.
Why are people still assuming nobody from Brawl will get cut? Just because Lucario is in again?

That's what I was referring to in this, "a game within another game", but it's my fault for not stating that clearly. He was also in SamuraiShodownWarriors 3.
Red Arremer pls.
We don't know if they could be interesting or boring characters until we see the moveset and characters itself from the trailers because Sakurai could make any characters interesting if he want to.
# of Swordsmen in Brawl: 5
# of characters who hands/feet as their main method to attack in Brawl:too many for me to count
It's all about presentation and feel of the characters. Marth is a nimble/elegant swordsman. Ike is a heavy, slow, and powerful swordsman. I don't know what I would classify Link and Toon Link as, but they feel very different.
Nearly forgot about Meta Knight lol. He is a quick swordsman that does a lot of damage quickly.

Comparing the entire roster is kinda a false comparison. How about we compare all the guys who use lasers? Or who only use their fists?I get what you mean, but "slashing with sword quickly", "slashing with sword strongly" and "slashing with sword elegantly" doesn't seem very different in comparison to "commands plant drones for attacks", "uses space-based magic" or "utilizes a yo-yo".

I dunno, we were talking about wacky character designs and how I would like to see more of them, and I said that I think Takamaru would be kinda boring cause he's another swordsman, and then somebody said that there's a lot of differences between all the swordsmen and then suddenly I am attacked by a murder of verbal crows.
I don’t mean to single you out, but I think the general condescension towards “safe” rosters is a combination of revisionist history and goalpost moving.I want Sakurai to surprise me.
