Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

It's around 170% with 2 stocks behind.

That's Lucario's max aura, if I remember correctly. You essentially have to be on the brink of losing the game.
And what kind of power increase would Lucario receive under max aura in Brawl? An attack that does 10% normally would suddenly do......?

How's Mewtwo going to compete with that, lol.

with the fiercest swift attack you've ever seen.

Can someone scale this picture with the pic of the day to make Lucario the same size so I can get an idea just how much bigger this aura sphere is?

Don't know how helpful it would be, but if you compare where the light blue "spikes" radiate out you'll notice that they both sit in/on the floor pretty well. The Brawl sphere is pretty close to the full height of Lucario, ears including. Examining his ear-height horizontally on the 4 model, you can make a line that only reaches 75% of the way up the sphere. So the new sphere is ~33% larger than the old sphere

Huh. What timing. I guess if anyone's feeling particularly inspired by Lucario's reveal, apparently the S.H. Figuarts Lucario just went up for pre-order.

Well, I did a little test right now.

Lucario's down aerial attack does 11% at zero aura.

At near max aura (I could only live up until 150% with 2 stocks behind) it does 29% with far, far greater knockback.

As far as I know, Lucario turns into the one of the strongest characters in all of Brawl when at max aura. At zero aura he has a very, very hard time KO'ing opponents as his attacks are so weak.

That sucks because if Lucario is at a stock advantage, he'll be extremely weak. Momentum is always against Lucario.

you probably need to take into account the effects of stale moves in Brawl weakening the damage of attacks if you use it multiple times in a row

I find it interesting that after two games increasing the fur/fabric quality they've just ditched it. It looks really good on Lucario.

For my test, zero aura was done in training mode (they never stale in training mode), while max aura was done by letting Samus beat me up for 5 minutes straight while I did nothing but attempt to survive in a 4 stock match. So all the moves are fresh!

Still though, stale moves must absolutely suck for Lucario at low aura (aka, he's winning).

The extra comment on the JPN is exclusively for the Japanese version of the game. In the JPN Pokemon games, "Aura" (JPN: hadou/はどう) is listed as 波動 in the Pokemon games, but as 波導 in Smash and in the Pokemon movies.
(The difference is semantic: the first uses the character for "moving", while the second uses the character for "leading/guiding". He probably also made this distinction because there are other attacks that have similar JPN names--Aqua Pulse is みずのはどう, Dark Pulse is あくのはどう, etc. "Aura" is a separate concept (not "pulse") and thus uses a different kanji.

That's not Lucario at max power then. His max power occurs when he's down two stocks or more and is at 170%. His hits are ridiculous at that point.

His fsmash does around 40% damage and is has one of the highest knockbacks of any move in the game at that point (it might be the most, but don't quote me on that).

nah that is Lucario at max power, 1.4 (max)/0.7 (min)*4/3 (maximum boost from stock count)=8/3 damage factor, 8/3*11=29 (rounding down)

and yes, if you sweetspot a fully charged Forward Smash it does 42% and is more powerful than DDD's Forward Smash

On the subject of possible Mewtwo moveset changes, how about Psystrike, a Generation V move that's now Mewtwo's signature move?

And in response to the person saying that Shadow Ball should act like a curveball, that's exactly how it worked in Melee: it moved suddenly up and down and even I believe even fluctuated its forward speed as it moved.

It's hard to survive so long, though this time I actually managed to do it.

At maximum aura I could go (170+ damage / 2 stocks behind / all moves fresh);
Back air does 20%
Down air does 30%
Forward tilt does 24%
Down smash does 37%

At a 3 stock advantage (0 damage / all moves fresh);
Back air does 7%
Down air does 11%
Forward tilt does 8%
Down smash does 8% (what)

Oh, and while I was doing these fun tests... here's a maxed out Aura Sphere at maximum aura;

A quick and dirty comparison between both Smash 4 and Brawl's maxed Sphere;

I don't think the sphere is that much bigger. I would think the border effect wouldn't be part of the hitbox, though it looks cool.

Random question: You know how all the characters revealed so far have their own character portraits, right? Do you think those portraits will be used for the character select screen, or will there be a different one for each character?

The reason I'm asking is that the way some characters are posed would look kind of weird for when selecting them as a character, like Samus' and Pikachu's.

Melee had different art work but Brawl used the same. I too noticed some characters don't fit a rectangle that well, for example Luigi. Maybe it's a sign that the character selection screen is getting a complete makeover rather than just a lick of paint!

Yeah, Luigi is another weird one. Here's my opinion on the rest:

Would look perfectly fine
Mario
Bowser
DK
Link
Pit
Sonic
Marth
King Dedede
Lucario
Villager
Mega Man

A bit iffy here
Peach
Wii Fit Trainer
Rosalina
Kirby
Fox
Toon Link
Pikachu
Olimar

Would look "off"
Zelda
Luigi
Samus

Guys, i'm addicted to Miiverse... ._.

Also, I wonder if we'll see some new moves from Lucario? :0 And if his Final Smash really becomes Mega Lucario. But I don't think we'll see those for a while..

Ha! I knew that we are going to get a picture of Lucario today, so I really like how the aura look like. It really have very vibrating colors.

That's just Boss Doggie starting his gen 1 hate parade. You're better off ignoring him when he talks about nearly anything regarding the first 2 gens of Pokemon.

Swift can also be used by a magical boy, so I'm not sure what he is alluding to when he says "magical girl".

How do people felt about this (fake) characters selection screen? What would you like to see from Sakurai's finalized character selection screen?

It's too plain for my tastes. I'm expecting something a little more stylized, though I suppose I wouldn't be surprised to see the site background colors.

I like the last one (can't see the first one though).

I'm not really sure if I like the different color ideas behind the characters though. I think it would look more cohesive if every character had the same background like in previous Smash Bros.
I wouldn't call that hate ... as much as talking some shit.

Ya'll ok? I don't think BD is that serious.
BD nearly always posts like that regarding anything from the Gen 1 and 2 games. I'm not only referring to Mewtwo here.
