PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4/PSP) | February 2014

I love Soul Sacrifice and disliked my short experience with MH, mostly because it felt clunky (due to the controls) and slow. From what I have played of the Toukiden demo, I am not sold on it either.

Most Monster Hunter fans seem to like Toukiden and dislike SS/GE and vice versa. Toukiden and MH are slower paced and more methodical and tactical whereas Soul Sac is #yoloswag mash/attack a lot and infinite stam with an interesting, but ultimately very shallow weapon system but an actual story and some decent lore. God Eater I've never played but it looks really silly and I personally wouldn't spend money on it. Toukiden does cut a lot of fat (read: annoyances) from MH and I think it's a great move. Some may say it's more casualized but whatever, I wasn't a fan of the stam bar shrinking throughout hunts. One thing Toukiden does better than SS that is completely undeniable is graphics though, Soul Sac looks like dog shit in comparison. DAT NATIVE RES HNNNNNNG

Sony has a new promotion for Germany. If you load €50 between today and the 28th on to your PSN account using Paypal, Sofortüberweisung or Giropay you get €10.
http://www.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/de-de/promotions/playstation-store/

Last time I made a thread about this promotion nobody cared, so I'll only post it here. Beware, the last time this promotion ran the messages with the €10 coupon were only received by PS3s and Vita only users had to call the support. Even they didn't knew that Vita users didn't get the message.

This promotion has perfect timing for me.

Spain am cry.

Not a bad description of the strengths and weaknesses of each game

Yeah, outside of the "very shallow weapon system"...

Soul Sacrifice has more variety and methods of attack than what I play of Monster Hunter. It's one of the main reasons I love Soul Sacrifice and dislike MH (alongside the faster pace and focus on immediate "boss" battles compared to exploring and crafting and whatever else is necessary to fully enjoy MH).

Soul Sacrifice could definitely use more spell variety

Once everything got broken down into categories and you saw the Sigil setups it became really transparent and boring.

I hope they mix it up a bit more in the sequels/expansions

I'm jelly :(
Did some retailer the d1(where)? Is it a review copy? What?!?!?!?!?!?

Yup, review copy.

They actually sent me the key a week ago but I guess there was a problem uploading it to the servers because it only actually became available to download today.

I'm under embargo for anything past the first chapter.

eh, theres a bunch of "different" types of "weapons" in SS but there's only one way to use them and a lot of them play really similarly to eachother. For example, when using a melee weapon (which are all the same anyway) you have two options to attack and one general combo which consists of mashing that same button over and over or just holding it down then mashing it. I thought the system was amazing when I first started SS but quickly realized that it wasn't anywhere near as awesome and deep as I first thought. I do like how it allows people to play exactly how they'd like (say, half ranged and half melee with a heal spell) but me personally, I enjoy the roles/classes that you take on in MH and Toukiden. If you're hammer, you gotta be our KO bitch and go for the head, if you're LS/SA fuck that tail and squishy parts up, etc.

I respect SS for being pretty different from MH, but I just don't find it all that fun. It's better that way though, if every hunting game was a straight clone of MH that would be no fun.

Sounds like you didn't spend too much time with MH. The crafting/exploring thing is nearly completely limited to the tutorial sections of each game.

As someone who likes both MH and GE styles of hunting game a lot the biggest thing that sets them apart for me is that MH requires far more spacing, precision, and commitment to each swing to play skillfully. GE style games give bosses more lenient windows of opening, hence the "mashing" and usually you can roll/dodge cancel out of attacks instantly due to shorter animations. It's kind of analogous to Dark Souls vs Devil May Cry.

I agree with your assessment but disagree on the Fun Factor

I definitely had plenty of fun playing this game despite its flaws. But only in multiplayer...

Solo play is tedious

Agreed on that as well. I wanted to play more multi but they forced me to play the boring SP with a retarded AI member instead. I don't play hunting games to play with computer AI, I enjoy hunting with friends. Put 300+ into MH3U and maybe 3 hours of that were in single player.

I didn't know Outlast was already on the store but to buy ! 20 bucks

I found the SS campaign very nice, all the story and lore were awesome as well. And SS with friends and randoms online was the shit. Day 1 on SSD, even if the japanese demo wasn't what I expected.

The only MH that I played was Tri on the wii, and I found terribly boring, droped after half an hour. I didn't liked Toukiden as well, but if my SS friends migrate to Toukiden, guess I'm gonna buy that.

I did enjoy the story and Campaign.

Just did everything else in multiplayer. Nothing beats playing Hunting games on Vita with your buds in party chat

So good

Jesus shit does Pixeljunk Monsters hd have a severe difficulty spike. Went from rainbowing the first handful of levels to being crushed repeated ina span of a couple of hours. I think in done with that game and I didn't even get off the volcano island. Christ.

Yeah, that game is no bullshit.

That's exactly what I wanted with MH -- something like boss rush from Dark Souls.

Then I played it.

It was way too slow. Each weapon had a very limited moveset with some weapons playing very similar to each other from what I experienced in the tutorials... adding in the blade sharpness and stuff... it wasn't for me. I found it very boring and not to be what I hoped, especially in what I considered to be the lack of variety. And not enjoying the combat made me drop the game in the blink of an eye.

Screw Monster Hunter, screw Danganronpa (until next week), DUST FORCE IS UP OHMYGOD!

$9.99/7.99 with Plus discount. 325 mb download. Had to search manually for it on the Vita's store but it's there. There's a demo too.

It is indeed up, and I am indeed downloading it. Outlast is up for purchase too and it's $20! Indies these days =P

Dustforce is the real deal. I swear.

It's a challenging platformer with a smooth-ass soundtrack. That balance makes for lots and lots of hours played.

(I played it on PC so I can't speak on the ports)

What site do you work for?

I am confused, Outlast was announced as a free title for all PS+ members, but it isn't showing up as free link

It's happens
every
sometimes. PS+ offerings/discounts are always the last thing to go live. Wait until they do the blog post about the store update to make sure.

It should be up within 3 hours.

How is that EVERY week we have people come in and not know when the store updates(or doesn't update)? You'd think people would know by now

Sounds like your PS+ subscription has lapsed...

j/k. Sometimes the PS+ part of the update takes awhile to show up... just cause the game is up doesn't mean it has the proper PS+ flags for free or discount. It's not technically a problem until the blog post is up and the store update is "officially live".

Slowdown in Dustforce? Guess I don't have to worry about buying it then.

I am a fairly new member to PS+ :) that's why, anyways thanks for the replies GAF. I can't wait to do the whole remote download thing from my work place!
