Not looking to win anything, but just wanted to show off my office/mancave.
When I finished my basement I made sure I had a separate room for my toys, games and movies. The thought was so I could close the door and have the kids not bother me while they played in the rest of the basement, which is now their playroom.
Yeah, wishful thinking.
Here's the entrance into the room. At the end of last year Nintendo Club sent me Year of Luigi and Wind Waker HD posters unsolicited, so I had them framed.
And this is the view when entering the room. Last year I got a
Monoprice 50ft Ultra Slim HDMI cable that I installed in-wall so I can hook up my PC to my HDTV. In the back is my PC. I also installed HDMI wall outlets so it's a clean look.
Still rockin' the Dreamcast, and last gen PS3 and Xbox 360. All my "current" gen gaming right now is via PC, but I'm mostly on a retro gaming hook at the moment. Everything is hooked up to a Yamaha RX-V673 with an HSU sub and NHT speakers.
And here's the front-to-back view. That 7.1 speaker system is in-wall installed, the reason I got the drop ceiling put in for that room so I could have wire access after construction. You can see my PC in the back that's hooked up to the TV. I use wireless Xbox 360 controllers for my Big Picture gaming.
That shelf back there holds all of my convention exclusive merchandise, limited editions and stuff from collectors editions. That TRON Vintage Figure is my most-prized item. Took me four days at SDCC to get it, but I did.
Not pictured, I have another shelf with my older gaming consoles (N64 through Xbox/PS2/GC era) and games, anime, and game accessories like DJ Hero and Rock Band stuff, console boxes, etc.
Oh and those movie poster frames? I love those. The are just frames with hinges screwed directly into the wall with fiberglass windows. Two on each wall. I keep a roll of movie posters and change them out all the time. I'll buy upcoming releases on eBay (only official release, dual-sided posters) and swap them out every year, with seasonal posters during Holidays I keep around and put up every year (Christmas and Halloween movie posters, basically). I got the frames from
Stargate Cinema and love them
I've got Captain America 2 on one wall, LEGO on the other. I try to get posters the kids would like. Maybe that's why I can't keep them out of the room.
Last thing. I was supposed to fit this in the room, but couldn't get it through the door after the construction.
It's a MAME cabinet that I bought locally from a guy who was moving and couldn't take it with him. It was a personal project of his, he did all the wiring for the four joysticks, added two new buttons for each player, wired the coin slots and LED lights. He even built his own electric relay so that when the PC turns on, it powers the speakers and lights. But the PC was Linux and I didn't know it too well, so I was kinda stuck with how he configured it for about three years. That was until the power supply burned out. So I replaced it with a Windows 7 box and an i5, an old MSI NX8600GTS I had from an older PC. I use Maximus Arcade for the front end. I ripped out his homemade relay because I was always afraid that thing would go up in flames one day, and bought a Smart Strip which does the job perfectly (and most likely, more safely). Runs better than ever!
