Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Please clarify that you are joking next time. Nothing indicated that it was, and considering how quickly they 180'd last time, I was hoping there was a good chance it was legitimate.

Didn't it take a day or 2 for Nintendo to come to their senses about that? I don't expect anything until late tomorrow

I thought it was an obvious joke.

As long as the metagame doesn't quickly converge to camping again it should be fine. The thing is Sakurai isn't the sort of person who would see the end result of decisions in that regard so I hope that he has people on had who can.

Smashgaf, I need some help. So some friends and I have started doing a "smash bros" marathon of sorts, in which we a play a game featuring a character in smash bros. like for mario we all played galaxy 2 for a week, for toon link we played wind waker for a week, etc etc. the problem is that we wanted to do captain falcon next, but none of us have ever played an F-zero (which is a shame ;_;). So I was wondering what the definitive f-zero game to play is?

I think the biggest hole in the "Nintendo wants Smash 4 @ Evo" conspiracy theory is that people assume that Nintendo WANTS their new game shown off at a major competitive fighting game tournament. Remember that Nintendo's current gameplan is to appeal almost exclusively to Lil' Jimmy and Nana, so they probably think that they'll end up seeing the Smash 4 Top 8 and be scared off of buying it and a Wii U.

If that is Nintendo's logic it doesn't even make sense. Lil' Bobby Sue and Betty Sue won't even be watching the stream. Appealing to everyone is something Nintendo claims they are trying to do, it has been their mantra forever, and is the definition of their current home console. Reggie took center stage at E3 and babbled about the inclusiveness of we and you.

It wasn't.

We disagree.

not only is this a rather passive-aggressive post, doing that wouldn't even significantly change the game
in fact, despite kill times sort of decreasing, there would be even fewer combos

....yeah, no
YOU of all people are calling me out on passive-agressiveness? Hypocrite, you couldn't even finish your post without being passive-agressive to another user.

OT: I guess we'll see a new item today

GX. But watch out it's hard as balls.

The thing with last time was that nintendos lawyers jumped on it cause it was something they didnt ask for permission and shut it down as soon as they found out, which they got it all straightened out, the lawyers are probably jumping on it again, or they decided to ask this time but they probably arent speaking to anyone but the lawyers still.

Please point out to me what indicated that it was a joke.

I am not going to explain why the chicken crossed the road. If you didn't think it was funny, or didn't even realize it was a joke, that is fine, there is not much more to it.

I'm just saying if you are making a joke, it should be an actual joke and not just a false statement with no comedic hyperbole or absurdity behind it.

Gamecube one, 64 game is also good though. I kinda did this with Project X Zone to hype myself up even more.

The original F-Zero is widely available and still a great game.

GX is the pinnacle of racing, but it's very hard to say everyone should play it.

edit: actually either X or GX are good; they have multiplayer. :P

The fact that I'M FINISHED!, as a rule of thumb, never is serious in anything he says.

Depends if I flip heads or tails. My serious posts tend to annoy people more than my bargain bin jokes.

You can get X aka the 64 one on the virtual console, and im sure you can get GX the gamecube one on amazon somewhere.
you can also get the original SNES version but it might turn out inferior in this day and age.

F-Zero X and F-Zero GX both are amazing games. GX also has a storymode, however, it's notorious for being extremely difficult, even on the lower difficulty levels.

Anyone know how much F-Zero GX would cost on Amazon? Since there may never be another F-Zero game for a long while I'd like to play that one more. The last time I played it was over 10 years ago at a Gamecube demo kiosk lol.

Thanks for the input everybody! I think I'm going to go with GX. As long as the multiplayer is decent, I'll enjoy it. And I hope I'll be able to handle the campaign :S

I always wanted to try out an F-Zero game but I can't get into racing games.

I don't like most racing games either, but I fucking love the F-Zero games.
I'd recommend watching the VODs from AGDQ:

This is how the games look like when played on the highest level.

but even Brawl managed that much
how the competitive scene will change when Smash 4 comes out:
the game is essentially Brawl 2.0--->Brawl dies, Smash 4 takes over that scene, Melee hangs around
game is a significant improvement, it really doesn't actually need Melee speed as long as it isn't Super Float Bros--->scene largely unifies behind Smash 4, there'll probably be a handful of holdouts but who cares

Brawl managed that much in that it's the only other Smash game on an even slightly relevant system. It was in no way an evolution on Melee's gameplay however and offered a largely different competitive experience.

The excitement of Melee is far more than speed. Project M takes everything good about it and enhances it and gives it a balanced roster. It's the most exciting and visceral competitive game I've ever played. It has an incredible balance of speed, skill, and smarts. Combos are dynamic and sensible (poor DI from the victim potentially leads to a worse punishment for him). Tech chases are everywhere, all the time (no freeform air dodge that resets you from tumble status, and higher hitstun leading to far more hard knockdowns, not to mention the majority of characters have throws meant to setup for reads/tech chases). Recoveries are balanced across the board (and by and large no one has an easy time getting back to the stage--which is a part of the game. Edgeguarding is not 'cheap') In the case of Project M (and Melee to a degree), multiple playstyles are, in fact, fairly well supported. There are no awful glitches. Character balance is in the hands of the actual players. There is a larger selection of competitively viable stages.

These are features Smash 4 will not have. These are also things that many fighting games do not and cannot have (such as character balance handled by players). Some of these things can't be helped and Smash 4 is not to blame, but for the people who really, really play Project: M? Smash 4 is 100% incapable of replacing it and the experience it provides, and the little that it could do to approach that experience (such as good hitstun, higher speed, and character balance) we all know it will not do.
