Ryan Gosling is joining the Star Wars galaxy in a new film directed by Shawn Levy. Levy, who recently directed and produced Marvel's hit Deadpool & Wolverine, made a surprise appearance during The Mandalorian and Grogu panel today, joining Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni on stage to confirm his project for the live audience at Star Wars Celebration Japan. One of several theatrical projects still in development from Lucasfilm, including films by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, Taika Waititi and a new trilogy by Simon Kinberg, Levy's film — Star Wars: Starfighter — will star Gosling and go into production starting this fall. Set approximately five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Gosling will play a brand-new character teased by the actor's appearance on stage. Star Wars: Starfighter arrives in theaters on Memorial Day 2027.

Thought maybe there would be something in the trailer. Just a logo.. Guess it doesn't matter, not going to watch it anyway, but was kind of curious how much of a dumpster fire it could be.

As long as Kathleen Kennedy is still involved, anything Star Wars is going to be shit. That said Ryan is decent, want to see the other actors though.

2027???!!! 😱😱😱

Eh, I'm completely indifferent to this announcement tbh. Lucasfilm cancelled so many previously announced Star Wars movies it's hard to get even excited about them

More logo bait.

Calling it now. Just like all the other "announcements" Lucasfilm has made over the last few years, this will never actually get made.

Smart of Gosling to do a stand alone film, take the money, do something that'll be big news and then move on rather than get stuck into a trilogy.

That's not a Last Starfighter sequel.
Or is it?
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK ME, some 80's kids playing that Star Wars vector graphics arcade game and Gosling shows up in the Centauri role to recruit for "a galaxy far far away".....that could work!

And you could do it for cheap. You'd only need extensive fighter effects that the end, the rest is just a love letter to 80's kids, arcades, and early star wars fanbase. 100 mill budget and it would make a cool billion at the BO if they wouldn't fuck up the casting.

Levy and Gosling together are a step up from the usual blockbuster slop I guess. They clearly enjoyed writing / creating the Deadpool stuff together. Not expecting much, but has to be a little better than the last several Star Wars projects.

Have faith people, they're trying to get us closer to episode 10 you know that's in the making. Andor has been great, mandalorian, Asoka was beautiful, Star Wars is adapting with gaming and open world with Jedi survivor etc.

Wht made the OG trilogy great was the unknowns. Ryan Gossling won't help bring butts to cinemas.

Only one star still has that power, and Tom Cruise won't do it.

Gosling was involved with Deadpool?

Or are you confusing one blonde middle aged white canadian with another blonde middle aged white canadian (Gosling and Reynolds)?

I'm can already imagine Mr Gosling looking forlorn and unloved in his X wing spinning outta control whilst Kavinsky is playing in the background

Superb track

Fuck it, I'm in (to be disappointed again)

It's the easiest Star Wars movie to make. Forget about Dead Star, forget about Luke, Wedge, Red1, Gold Leader and shit.

Copy Top Gun Maverick and don't look back. Give one lane ass motive for a "suicide" mission and get the action right.

Some rag tag peripheral X-Wing squadron finds out about some "stealth" Tie-fighter production (yes there's a game with that one) in a planet in the ass of the galaxy. Goes to investigate, pew pew pew, hell breaks loose, "trench run scene", pew pew pew, both sides calls the armada, pew pew pew², ultimate dog fighting scene against a superior fighter, Ryan in the white helmet wins and gives a thumbs up.

Directed by generic director

Credits rolling.

It's basically impossible to fuck up on this one.
