Remedy's FBC Firebreak has 43 people on the servers. Very exciting.

From the first reveal trailer that is was obvious this would fail miserably.
Remedy saw the iceberg and decided to go full steam ahead into it.

Hot take: The Left 4 Dead model does not work anymore.

I specifically mean these things together:
  • Linear Shooter
  • Small handful of maps
  • Remixing the experiences on said maps for variety
  • Charging 39.99 and above for this

Thanks. Yea this one was pretty much off my radar. I wouldn't mind a Control sequel though. It was a very good game.

They knew the game was going to flop. That's why it's on PS+ and Game Pass day one so they could make SOME money back from Sony and MS's lump payments.

As for people concerned about Remedy, remember that they're currently working on Max Payne 1&2 Remakes, funded by Rockstar. As long as they don't botch that somehow, they should be sitting pretty once they get that out the door.

1: Release awesome single player games
2: Do a multiplayer game nobody's asked for
3: Surprised Pikachu face
Not even their single player games were successful , alan wake 2 barely made its budget back , the game was already not very popular , add the SBI/race swap scandal and you get a game that barely made any profit

Nothing wrong with Remedy trying something different if this wasn't too expensive to make and could afford the risk and try, but it definitley come too late with how the market is.

Its crossplay and on game pass and ps extra. Steam is not the only platform you know. Probably doesnt have tons of players, but still

It was such an obviously terrible idea, and they run a lean ship with pretty low margins, such an insane risk would have more than wiped out any profits from their past few games. I hope this doesn't kill them as I love their SP games, and I love their control universe.

Someone needs to lose their job over this tho as it should never have been pitched, never mind green lit or brought to release. So many points of obvious failure.

Lol the game was reusing Control assets with 6 maps and with 3 small variations for each map. Its not that deep or comprehensive for mp gaas. Its the most tacked on mp game in a while. Probably cost like a fraction of any other gaas game. Remedy is gonna be alright if this fails. Its an experiment.

Good job going epic games only...the thing that will save remedy is timmy from epic giving them money. Bring your games to steam

Idk about that. They made a single player for a terrible Chinese CoD clone. But this might be worse for them financially. I find it hard to feel bad for these veteran devs who disregard what their fans want and make lowest common denominator GaaS slop.
Literally this! Zero sympathy. They make stupid decisions and they rightly get fired, not gonna cry and moan over it.

i feel like max payne remake ist really their last chance. they really need to get the gameplay right this time and optimize it for all platforms instead of making games for just people with 4090s or whatever like alan wake 2

Remedy will be alright. Just weeks ago they were confident about making CONTROL 2 below the budget of the first one, and that was not predicated on FBC failure/success.
They seems to save on marketing costs these few releases.
Let this be a lesson to them, stay in your lane.
Yup. Developer should stick to what they know and never try to innovate outside their shell.

This useless multiplayer shit is not what players want. It's what investors, driven by advisory groups, demand they make.
"Look how low the cost vs. how much money we can make! This is the new hotness!" Only problem is, it isn't. People have no reason to waste time downloading 150 GB of slop to play another game that's exactly the same as the other game they're currently playing and appreciate.

Shocking how much stupidity there is. Truly.

it's the truth although bad controls is only on console. That game has awful deadzones and thumbstick is not even making a circle.
But everything else is valid for both versions.
I finished it on pc and I was barely able to do it. It was so boring, repetitive and the story went absolutely nowhere.

I think it is rather... agreed upon? Because... that's how the game is?

The last great game Remedy made was Max Payne 2. I've got no idea what people still see in them. I've got no idea how they're still in business (probably that Game Pass and PS+ welfare for this one is keeping the lights on).

alan wake 1 was great too. after that, I agree

I'm not a control fan myself. The early HDR implementation on consoles left.....nah fuck that, it was the worst HDR I've ever experienced. The game seemed VERY simple and the story nonsensical. I wish I could get into it and probably would have more but I feel like the console experience wasn't good. I have nothing against Control.

I saw someone mention the theoretical race swap in AW2. I think Remedy denies this but I always felt there was a race swap so the game wasn't almost only one race in it. Some of the story didn't make sense until I realized, hey if this char was race swapped it would make perfect sense. I also thought that I bet someone at Remedy has a thing for redheads.

That said even with me being very aware of this type of stuff, it didn't even dawn on me that this was a thing until well after I bought the game. I doubt if it affected sales.

No, I think the reason AW2 flopped are clear:

1. Sequel to a niche game that was average
2. No Steam release

On AW2 itself, it has a very strong first impression and the jump scares are pretty good. The whole beginning scenario is the best part of the game. The music sections are *chef's kiss.

The last 1/4 of the game, sans the last boss fight, was terrible, rushed, tedious, and boring. Much of the exploration in the game was boring. It was not nearly as good as Silent Hill 2 but I'd probably still give it a 7.5 or an 8. Better than Control.

AW2 wasn't bad I platinumed it and it was a good game the issue was it was right when the sweet baby inc shit started to become "problematic", so just hearing that SBI was involved people tuned out and wake just wasn't the focal point, if he was the main protag througout and no mention of SBI I think the game would've done better. I am just a huge twin peaks fan so give me more Alan Wake anything, but to me that is what I surmised. People brushed it off but it was a solid game overall.

control did not support hdr at all until recently

Hmm remedy games will always be something special to me :)

It was a gamble. This is the first game Remedy self-funded, hoping to reap all the profit from it. But, as is often the case, fans of singleplayer studios are not interested in their multiplayer offerings, and multiplayer gamers are already occupied by their favourite MP games.

I highly doubt it. It didn't felt like they were betting big on this but wanted to try either way. Maybe most of the work was already done as a concept proof during CONTROL.

Won't affect CONTROL 2 development at all.
Yeah, this feels more like a low cost experiment and I thought this could end up being a sleeper multi-player hit when it was first announced.

At the moment, that appears to have no chance of happening.

The game was just released a couple of weeks ago, and they're already seeing less players than Marathon. In fact, the game is so f'ing dead, i actually had to google it's release date to make sure it's actually out, and not in some kind of an early pre release stage.

NOBODY EVEN NOTICED THIS SHIT CAME OUT lmao. This might very well be the biggest failure made by Remedy, so the layoffs are most likely coming to hunt this studio as well. At least it's not a GaaS, but i don't know who at the studio thought that releasing this thing was a good idea.

I love Control and pretty much everything Remedy does and want nothing to do with this game. At least they were cool enough to make it obvious just by the cover.

I am a contributing member of a video game message board who has played every single one of Remedy's games, and even I didn't know this came out. Someone dropped the ball big time (and it wasn't me).

i knew it a FLOP

I hope not. Control is widely underrated. One of my top 5 last gen. Alan Wake 2 shook me to my core, but the horror I survived was watching one of my all time favorite devs sell me that piece of trash. FBC is fine. I tried it on Gamepass. I'd have bought the special edition if it was a 15 hour single player campaign with a more serious art design and tone. With the same lore and all that. Sounds interesting. I just don't care for the goof.
