Ghost of Yōtei State of Play gameplay deep dive on Thursday, July 10!

I am not talking about the story. It's a open world game, what matters most is what you do as your primary side thing after you're done with the story, or don't feel like progressing through it. There is nothing to do, which is exactly like it is in AssCreed Shadows. Taking over camps is all there is, which is as hollow and brainless as it gets. And i am not surprised that it is like that. The game is aimed at casuals that press the W key and want to do nothing but killing. For me, this is the worst formula for an open world game.
Well said these games seriously lack gameplay/mission diversity...but to be fair that is most games now ...ac shadows is brutal in not having anything interesting to do. The way that games gameplay loop is designed is a mess....how many Tori temples where you search for 3 codex pages can I take?

Most of them being like that is indeed the case, and the reason why quality open world games are so rare. To me, when it comes to singleplayer titles, the open world genre is the one that has the highest potential to be truly amazing, but it also happens to be the second most difficult genre for a dev to build, only after mmo's, so when we do finally get a new good open world game, that's like the second coming of Jesus.

I'll check it out since this is the one big game daddy Hulst is allowing us this year, but I maintain that I'd much rather have Sucker Punch either move on to something else or go back to Infamous.

Absolutely loved the first game and finished it twice on PS and PC. This one I'm not sure about yet for some reason but I hope this SoP proves me wrong

I thought the first one was incredibly mid, and showed signs of internal development turmoil. I'm really excited to see where they take it with a sequel and clean up the experience.

I think giving up on Jin's story was the smartest thing they could have possibly done. Really stoked to watch this.
Post checks out:

Would not have guessed after platinuming Tsushima that I would only feel mild excitement for the sequel. Hope the game clicks with this showing

I want new stances, useful charge attacks, more cosmetics, and above all no mongols
The best part of GOT was going to the second region and fight ronin looking ennemies

Sell me on this.

I just need more variety of side content abd less bloat.

I should do the dlc for the first, maybe?
The DLC for the first game is pretty good. It feels like they learned what variety means with that one. Hopefully Yotei is more similar to the level of the DLC than the base game, which honestly felt barebones at times.

As Trilobit Trilobit said the dlc is very good.
Beautiful landscapes, new weapons, new enemy type, nice cosmetic additions, if you liked the main story you'll learn plenty more on Jin and his relationship with his father (you'll also finally understand the weird cutscene of his father's death).

Most of all, there's an armor that gives you the ability to perform new instakill moves from duel stance (the one where you call out your enemies before engaging them).

Really enjoyed the first game, but I feel
extreme apathy for this game. Not sure why? Maybe because I've already experienced largely what it has to offer. Felt the same about Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2 and Forbidden West.
