Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Announced (HD-2D Remake) - Releasing Feb 5th, 2026

LMAO, I JUST beat VII 3DS. It took me like 110 hours. I liked the game quite a bit. Near the end of my play through, rumors of another remake popped up. I said to myself I really didn't think I could justify the time to go through DQVII again, but upon farther reflection, I think I will

Please remaster VIII!

Looks really good. But I played through this game twice already. I really can't think of any reason why I need to drop another hundred hours doing it again. But for anyone who missed it the first times it was released, enjoy.

Gonna say it now: Square-Enix's place is in high-quality AA, not AAA. Something like this looks infinitely more charming than FF XVI, will sell a lot more, and very likely costed a crap ton less to make.
I've felt this way for years now. When I see all the huge business unit 1 games they don't interest me anymore. It's almost as if going high-budget then mandates the games need to chase "global appeal" to recoup those costs, which in turn makes them lose the charm that traditionally pulls me in.

Yet the other business units have been pumping out smaller games over the years that I have loved. As soon as I saw this remake was still from a top down perspective my interest perked up.

The Xbox/Win PC versions are Play Anywhere, that's nice.

Hahaha. I think it was a desire to finish the game already.😂

Can understand. I've seen playtimes from others clock well over 100 hours.

Not a big deal for me tho. My Shining Force III Scenario 1 playthrough was 125 hours. Granted, a good chunk of that was just sitting on my turn thinking about what to do next, or wasting time hanging out in towns. Also quite a bit of grinding especially in that one optional dungeon near the end before the last big battle or two.

Without all of that I could've cut it down by half.

Yeah, basically the BU1 could stand to learn a few things from the smaller BUs putting out stuff like DQVII remake, or Romancing SaGa 2 remake.

I played the 3DS remake when it released, and I still feel like this is too soon to revisit this long-ass game

Looks great though. Kinda looks like they've just refined the X Offline engine.

Feels like I'm the only one who thinks this remake looked meh.

Art style looks like someone pushed Toriyama designs into an AI and asked it to Pixar-fy it.

Will give it another chance whenever a new trailer comes out tho.

Come on Square Enix if you're gonna remake / remaster things at least keep going in order instead of skipping some of them.

Final Fantasy 1,2,3,4 - - 7 (If the rumored 9 remake was ever a thing 8 would have been skipped)
Dragon Quest 1,2,3, - - - 7 (Yes I'm aware of the DS versions for 4,5,6, but this is more about the recent HD/2D versions)

Are we seeing suggestion of some story changes?

I think I see Keifer in the party at the same time the wolf party member is. IIRC, I think Kiefer has exited the story shortly before you get the wolf. I wonder if Kiefer will have a bit more presence before leaving?

For someone who rates DQ11 a 10/10, how's this game rate against 11?
I consider DQ11 a 10/10. I played the 3DS version of DQ7. I love the party of 7 but it lacks the level of party interaction 11 has. Party members can feel less developed than 11s party members.Leveling up jobs has irritating caps depending on what island you are on and beyond that is more time consuming/grindy than leveling up skills in 11. The story is very slow burn, mileage varies on how people like that. I'd give VII an 8/10 but I could see other lovers of 11 thinking 7 is more of a 7/10 experience

I'm expecting some negatives I've pointed out in this post to be addressed in this game.

Yeah, as someone who's only really played DQ1 on NES and DQ11 (haha), I get the feeling the next game I should probably go for is DQ8, maybe they will redo that one day as well! I'll keep my eye on this though, but it's a pretty long game for something that's not up to the level I've gotten from 11. And characters being who they are and great story beats and pacing really help 11, Jade, Slyvando, Erik and so forth, all great side characters.

Y'know... the art style really works for this. Wow.

I didn't play DQVII until the 3DS version back in 2017 (it was 2017, right?), and I absolutely adored it. I'd love to have a more aesthetically polished take on the game.

Though... man, what I wouldn't do for a proper upgrade for Dragon Quest VIII. That one did not pan out on the 3DS.

I hear you on 11. I love that game. Out of the DQ games I have played, 8 is definitely the most like 11.

Wasn't aware people were suddenly fans of this game. I was the only one from what I know who put it on my DQ top 3.

Also people complain about the length but will happily put the time into a Fatlus game... Stop the cap.

As someone who has only played the first 3 games then 9 10 & 11 i can't wait to see what i missed with 7, if i had my wish all the rest would eventually get converted so there's a modern way to play all of them as so far they are scattered between a lot of legacy systems now it was annoying 3DS was region locked as it meant i never got to try the ones on 3DS that were released in english as i was stuck to the jpn region. I mean yeah i can manage DQ in japanese but it's hard going playing the offline version of X pushed me pretty hard but was totally worth it.

DQ fans eating good at the moment with the incoming 1&2 remake and now this.
