Giving credit where it's due, the Crash Bandicoot 3 run was very good.
I tried to watch the Lylat Wars (aka, European Starfox 64) run, but the runner's commentary is insufferable, the dude just goes on and on without catching a breath.

I don't think speed running is quite as popular as it was a few years ago but regardless this is a masterclass in how to destroy an event. It became a trans rally to the point where the games and the actual speed runs are just background noise. These are the people who want every piece of media to support their beliefs and be all inclusive yet we've all seen when media does this, those people don't support it. This is nothing more than a reddit/bluesky convention.
Imagine if the very top players of a bunch of games got together for a few days, not even just speed running, and raised money for something. Put a bunch of them in a arc match and fun stuff like that...have a block that's called Harry Potter done quick..have that one dude show up and do a backflip. It'd clear 10 million in 3 days

We had them. They are all but banned from events like this. The ones that made events like this fun 10 years ago don't tow the trans line or refuses to put their pronouns up are gone.

I really wanted to watch the Hades II Speedrun, but I couldn't because of these mentally ill Trans Woman.

I can't think of a more obvious failure of Western society failing its people than looking at the speedrunning community. Lonely/autistic men at a young age have to programmed to fail, and you get all these trooned out horror shows with obviously gifted minds speedrunning video games.

I enjoy watching these speed runs but I get put off when I have to watch a dude pretend he's a woman and hear all these clown donations from people who have their minds infiltrated by goy slop.

Look how much fun YellowShirtGuy/BlueGlass is having there, bless his cottons. Now the event want to be Hollywood, but it's more Hollywouldn't.

BlueGlass became super popular one year because people noticed he showed up to nearly every single run. Dude clearly loved GDQ and supported everything. Then one year the staff and runners got pissed at him when he laughed at a death in Super Meat Boy, but I think that's telling about how the event changed. He was there in the early days when they just had fun, then it turned into a serious thing. BG clearly wasn't a malicious guy, he just found something funny and god knows you can't always help that

To be honest, BlueGlass's laugh had become really irritating at one point during one edition. The dude was there for most of his waking hours, and laughed at literally every half-joke from the runners or hosts. I remember someone from the couch turning towards him at one point and asking him to stop. And this was far from the current era of the show.
Beyond the obvious… theme of the current show, what irks me is that the skill on show has obviously fallen from excellence for a while now. Most runners now unapologetically make some gross mistakes that would have made a runner kick themselves in the ass some years ago. There used to be people candidly making world records live like they were just playing casually in their living room. Now the general attitude seems to be "hey, anything goes, we're just here for the show and the donations".
I mean, most runners play better than most, I'm not denying that. But it's quite clear that most people aren't there to offer their best anymore.

The lowest AGDQ total since pre-Covid though not by much and there were a couple of SGDQ that brought in less (but still over $2 million) in the same time frame. So they're still quite successful.

If anything, this recurring discussion just shows I'm far from the only one who's clocked the shift over the years. From pure hype speed tech + charity flex to... whatever layered corporate-inclusivity event it's become now
As for making threads every year? Yeah, that's how discussion works. If something's changing for the worse, people talk about it. Forums aren't echo chambers for praise only. They're for hashing out the good, bad and ugly
