Next-gen Racing Graphics Face-off | (Next-gen means current-gen)

You're about 3 years too late. It's not. It's been extensively discussed in this thread. Over and over and over and over.

Forza Horizon for one has blown drive club out of the water since at least 3. 6 is about to release in a couple month or so.

THAT will be the benchmark. Playground are wizards.

Say it again.

Posted this in the graphical fidelity thread but Forza Horizon 6, while looking fantastic overall, still lacks the shader quality of GT7

The thing that always sticks out to me in Forza games is the head/tailights. They always look basic, lacking proper fresnal effect. Details like that contribute to the game not looking right as a whole. GT7 everything just feels natural regarding shading. Even if they left the car models as they were and just worked on head and tail lights the car rendering would take a huge boost in perceived quality

These are comparisons with Forza Motorsport, but shows better what the difference is

Damn that's pretty bad! Like a generation apart. Of course GT has always been the absolute king of material shaders. If that's a SS of FH6 up top, I find it hard to tell if they've improved or not based on the ToD.

Yep top shot is FH6. I think the game looks fantastic overall, but yea those kinda details just bug me and they never get addressed

Are not those GT screens photomode?? GT photomode swaps car models to higher poly models.

The top GT7 screen is gameplay, the rest yep, both games are in photo mode. But GT7 keeps the the lights looking excellent in gameplay, the interiors take a massive hit though with very low quality LoD (except when in cockpit view ofc)

Those attention to details. Tow hooks are never in a color of a car. NEVER. 😜

I kind of treat this as the gaf racing game thread, here's a couple videos:

Jimmy breaking down the most popular sims

Cool aesthetic motorcycle game

Also GRID Legends comes out on Switch 2 tomorrow. That's either a good thing or a bad thing depending on your opinion of the newer Grid titles.

While i agree that taillamp/headlamp materials are the best in Gran Turismo 7, the Horizon series wasnt really that bad in this regard.
The NSX screengrab from FH6 is interesting one. It seems to be cleer glass with no detail. I just ran FH5 and i would say that lamps quite a bit better than in this FH6 shot, and alot better than those Forza Motorsport screens.

That's a different NSX model (facelifted).

Anyway this is also my biggest grip with FH. Overall FH5 and now FH6, both look great but head/tail lights ruins it for older cars. It's not that big problem with more modern cars with clear lights, but classics loose a lot.
Compared to previous Forza titles (FH and FM series) they have improved this aspect in FM8 and I was hoping they would improve it more in FH6 (or at least use the solution from FM8), but based on the current footage it doesn't seem like it.

On reflection (ha), using Forza Motorsport shots wasn't fair because Playground are definitely better than T10 at stuff like that nowadays, but it does seem to be very incosistent across the board.

That E34 looks great, the NA2 NSX looks good too, but then you have ones like this that look frankly awful

Have you tried using a different browser as a test?

Senua Senua M Magik85

Senua PG are really lacking when it comes to fresnall details in headlight and brakelights. They didn't even match FM (2023) let alone GT7 with FH6. But there is still hope, FM also looked really bad in the trailers but at the end they did upgrade the shaders and effects on car lights.

Also FM headlights and brakelights are much much better looking than FH5. Its not even close...
