‘Dark Tower’: Clashing Visions, Brutal Test Screenings Plagued Journey to Big Screen

Damn. The second trailer that I saw with Atomic Blonde was average, but I actually liked the previous bigger, longer trailer.

Will still see it but without going in with any expectations. Not that I had many since I haven't read the books.
I guess that makes sense since even the Collider review that didn't like it much seemed to give some praise to Elba and McConaughey fitting the roles had they been doing them in a way better version of this movie and that trailer had quite a bit of the two of them in it.

Any enjoyment whatsoever?

This is the real question.

Plus was it bad bad or boring or the type of boring that some people might find not quite as boring.

Edit: Thanks for those impression BrokenBox.

My wife is finally watching True Detective, and McConaughey can act. Watching him smoke a cigarette is a Masterclass acting workshop. It's a shame if he sleepwalks through this.

Just as well. This needs to be an HBO/Netflix hard R tv show to be faithful. Follow the got template.

This franchise is nowhere near popular enough to survive a terrible movie and be rebooted in another medium anytime in the near future. This film kills the franchise ever being tried again by a studio for a long long long long time.

Its like he's doing those Lincoln commercials but with a little more stank on it

So is this movie officially the Krull of the 2010s? Or was that Guy Ritchies King Arthur?

He was so damn magnetic in that season. He practically made nihilism fashionable for a brief moment

Stephen King on why The Dark Tower might not have worked:

"The major challenge was to do a film based on a series of books that’s really long, about 3,000 pages. The other part of it was the decision to do a PG-13 feature adaptation of books that are extremely violent and deal with violent behavior in a fairly graphic way. That was something that had to be overcome, although I’ve gotta say, I thought [screenwriter] Akiva Goldsman did a terrific job in taking a central part of the book and turning it into what I thought was a pretty good movie. The TV series they’re developing now … we’ll see what happens with that. It would be like a complete reboot, so we’ll just have to see."

We're never getting that television series and everybody involved knows it, haha.

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
They shouldn't have tried to make it some YA-type garbage either, especially when the kid playing Jake is apparently terrible.

It really felt like it was aimed at the YA audience. Immediate turnoff. Hated the kid in the trailer too.

At this point the Dark Tower TV series will either disappear into the ether never to be heard from again or will end up as some Z budget trash on Crackle.

There's always that nugget of hope that maybe it'll be one of those rare cases of a meh film spawning a disproportionately excellent TV series, like Stargate or Buffy...

...ah who am I kidding? The best we can hope for is a quick death and someone has another pop without Sony's stink all over it in a few years time.
