Sega Sammy Holdings, the parent company of Sega Corporation, recently held a shareholders' Q&A session regarding its earnings for the second quarter of fiscal year 2025, giving some updates on its video game sector.

When asked about the performance of its two recent big releases – Sonic X Shadow Generations and Metaphor: ReFantazio, the company reported that both games are performing well against sales targets, with the former expecting to see a further boost from the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film, which hits theaters next month.

Sega Sammy cites the high quality of both games as well as effective marketing strategies as the main contributors to the strong performance. Moreover, in a separate answer, the company goes on to call Atlus, the developer of Metaphor: ReFantazio and the Persona series, one of their "most successful M&A deals to date." Sega won a bid to buy the Atlus brand and its bankrupt parent company Index Corporation back in September 2013, eyeing its high-value IPs such as Shin Megami Tensei and Persona.

Commenting on the developers' recent success, Sega Sammy said, "In the past, Atlus had limited resources and often narrowed down sales to specific countries, regions, and platforms, but by joining forces with Sega, they have gained the capability to expand their targets. We believe that the strong start of Metaphor: ReFantazio was made possible by the high quality of the product, as well as Sega's publishing power that facilitated a simultaneous worldwide launch on multiple platforms."

My favourite powerhouses in the industry right now. If it wasn't for Sega and Atlus this year would've been so bleak. An outstanding remake of Persona 3, another fantastic Yakuza, a revamp of SMT V and of course, though I have yet to play it myself, Unicorn Overlord. Add to that the amazing game that is Metaphor and voilà.

Happy for them! Love both Sega and Atlus, hope they keep delivering amazing games non-stop as they've been doing during the past few years.

Just pleeease, let it be less than a decade before SMT VI. :goog_relieved:

Sega / Atlus have low-key become the best JRPG studio in the last few years.
Square sucks while Atlus and Falcom are on the rise.

Oh how the tables have turned!

Remember all the resistance going PC? Now it's like it's never happened and their IPs are even more valuable when more users play them.
... soon it's popular enough for a Netflix adaption!

Yeah, someone should call Vanillaware and tell them, it's like they are blind to the facts.

I imagine it looks something like this. Developers can be console fanbois too, like Shinji Mikami's Resident Evil 4 for GameCube.
I can't help notice his head remains firmly attached to his shoulders.
Yeah it must be something like that, can't think of any other reason.

And lol at that quote from Mikami.

While metaphor disappointed me overall, it's still good to see Atlus succeed.

Persona 2 remake or Persona 6 next please.

You have to praise whoever decide to pick them but not touch them, just let them do their jobs without interference. Thats some smart move.

YT has been recommending a lot of Persona's music... 🔥🔥. I've never played any of these games, and I wasn't really interested. But for some reason, I'm kind of craving to play Persona 5 (which, according to the internet, seems to be the best one). It also has a 93 on MC.
