Very wrong. In the first screenshot, the color of the flame is white, in the next it's a red hue
Firstly do you agree that the chandelier is pink or not? You had originally typed "color of the
frame" and then edited it to "color of the
flame" while I was preparing a response, so I'm making sure I understand your challenge. But in either case, you are wrong. Neither the frame is white nor the flame's hue is red. Let's dive into it
The chandelier is pink. It's a pink frame/fixture, just poorly self-lit as RTGI has limited bounce lighting (likely just 1 or 2 bounces) which isn't sufficient for complex geometry like a chandelier. Here's the original RTGI screenshot zoomed in. It's still pink. Not white
Here's what happens to it when you increase saturation and nothing else, if it's hard to tell above:
If that's a white chandelier, saturation would not suddenly make it pink. It would either stay white or turn yellow like the rest of the image.
PT is simply bringing out colors that aren't showing with a single bounce and getting lit incorrectly due to limited bounces.
the base color of the candles flame should not change
It doesn't. The flame color is still bright yellow (almost white). What is changing is the chandelier lighting
itself up and its pink color dominating the area. If you look at the flame itself it's neither pink nor red. Just yellow. I urge you to do a real analysis before jumping to all these conclusions. Notice how the pink area i circled above is now consistent across the entire chandelier, due to PT. That's all there is to it. Accurate self-lighting.
Different time of day does not necessarily mean different sun positioning. Again the color of the sun light coming in from the window is different. That most certainly cannot be explained by the use of path tracing.
What is "time of day" in a game if not sun positioning? This is just more theories without presenting any actual evidence. The room is not painted in white. It is full of rich hues. Obviously PT would make it all look different. It's not even all that better, to be honest. Just
different as it is more accurate to the scene by its nature.
Again, the reason I presented it is to say PT is NOT making much of an impact as RTGI is already pretty damn good. It seems like you are just fixated on dismissing PT instead of seeking the truth. Present real evidence with screengrabs if you still disagree and want to continue this debate.
