10 Films To See In December (what are you watching?)

Now that December's here and in looking at that list, I knew that I was going to spend most of this month at the movies.

So many films I'll be seeing from that list alone. At least I'll be racking up Regal points for free stuff. :)

Knuckle is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen, in an awesome way.

So most people have 'things' in life they strive for. A family, a career, a social life, fun, and if you can find a balance between these it's generally accepted you'll live a fulfilling life. Now imagine you happen to live in one of 3 or 4 huge families who absolutely hate each other for no reason other than your parents before you hated them. You've just added a 5th goal in life. I beat the leaving shit out of the other families within a strict rule set.

This is a real thing that these people do. It is glorious.

It really is amazing. I don't think one can understand without watching.

I spent a night getting drunk with the subject, James Quinn McDonagh. Even though he was a complete gentleman, very outgoing and was graciously handing out the drinks, I was always aware that I was one failed joke away from eating my teeth.

I'll be seeing a whole ton of stuff...
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
Young Adult
The Adventures of Tintin
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
A Separation
War Horse
Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
Shame
Pariah (maybe)
Extremely Middlebrow (maybe)
Outrage
In the Land of Blood and Honey
Carnage

Problem is I won't be seeing a lot of them for a while.
In Australia we don't get Dragon Tattoo, Tinker, Tailor and Young Adult until January, Shame until February, and Carnage and A Separation until March (!!).
On the other hand, We Need to Talk About Kevin is already out over here and it's FANTASTIC. A lot of people think it's a bit heavy handed, and I can see that, but it just clicked with me anyway.
Go see it, everyone.
Does Michael Fassbender furiously masturbate in dramatic fashion?
Talk about tickling the funny bone.
These two posts killed me.

Must See:
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
MI:4
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Want to see but won't play here:
SHAME
We Need to Talk About Kevin

Will wait for Blu-ray:
Tintin
War Horse
Carnage
The Sitter

FYI Outrage sucks balls. Beat failed hard with that movie. Unless you want to see Yakuza yell at each other for a whole movie I would suggest everyone skips it.

How can you not drunkenly fight that dude!?! What a chance to start something horribly awesome. Of course you're going down first hit, but when you rise its all "The Dookkake clan will have it's VENGEANCE!" How can you pass that family life up?

I'm so so so pumped for Dragon Tattoo. Sherlock Holmes and Mission Impossible look like they could be fun. I really want to see Shame but I don't think it is playing near me.

You baldy bastard!

There's not a Mava man who can stand next to a Dookkake!

So I know the movie has no shot at getting a Best Picture nom, but is a nomination out of the question for Fassbender (for shame)? By all accounts it seems like he puts in a hell of a performance.

I can't watch War Horse. It is going to make me cry so I'll rent it on DVD and hide my shame like a grown man should.

Ouch. You poor thing. I used to have a tradition of seeing most Oscarbaity films pre-awards season until something clicked and I realized that, deep down, I hate them.
I'm the same way, except for some reason I always end up either being dragged along, or shrugging and thinking, 'what the hell, it's probably not that bad'. Except it is. Every time. : /

Now I'd like to imagine that the Count's family name is actually Dookkake.

I guess I'd better add Knuckle to the list! Can't pretend I don't enjoy the sight of grown men beating the everloving shit out of each other in any case.

It would be awfully convenient. You'd save money on monogrammed towels and the like.

KNUCKLE really is wonderful. It's not just the fights, but the whole culture surrounding them. Particularly interesting to me were the fight tapes that get circulated to agitate the fighters and to pump up the bets. Also, the ending is not at all what I expected.

Anecdotal, but of my friends and colleagues, I've noticed that the ones who never outgrew awards mania tend to make very boring art.

The Artist (even if I have to go to chicago, 2 hour trip), Dragon Tattoo for sure. If my niece is visting I'l be sure to take her to Tin Tin or MI4.

Oh and 'talk about kevin' if that was wider and MAYBE Shame for dvd.

It's not as bloody as you might think. Also, they are very serious about "fair play," so it's not like you're watching people getting jumped or happy-slapped.
Alright, you've convinced me. I'll check it out.

How did you end up drinking with McDonagh?

Man, a shitload of movies on that list I need to see. Hoping, of course, a lot of that comes out here. I hope Shame does :(. Pretty much everything on the list, really.

I've been meaning to thank Plainview for making this thread month to month. I always find one or two movies in the list that I had never heard of but sound like they are worth checking out. (Pariah and Knuckle this month)

So, thanks again man. Much appreciated.

The first one was bad and this looks worse. Not even worth mentioning.

I usually love your opinions, but no, just no.

Tintin
Sherlock Holmes
MI4
T,T,S,S
Friends will take me to see TGWTDT, but I haven't read the books so don't need to see it.

Yea, I really do love these, even if I disagree every so often as noted above :p

Can I make a suggestion for these threads?

Can you put a link to the past month(s) threads in the OP? There are always a bunch of cool indie movies that I can never see at the time of release, but when they hit BRD I've totally forgot about them. I always have to dig a bit to find the older threads and see if any of those indie movies have come out.

WHAT THE HELL!?!?! Another dry month. I'm going to need a new hobby if this keeps up! Hardly anything I want to see.

I'll see Mission Impossible, Sherlock Holmes, and I still need to see The Muppets and My Week With Marilyn.

The Sitter is a maybe.

Pfffft, are you a viral marketer for every movie company? OP is a total ad.

jk.

This will add to my backlog of movies to see. I still want to see Muppets and Hugo, now MI, TTSS and Tintin will be added to that.

After-after party at a festival. Drank until dawn, in an RV, while he was telling crazy stories and playing bartender. He is quite a character. I could see him getting work in action movies.
