10 years ago (yeah...) Naughty Dog gave us one of the best gameplay segments ever in a trailer at E3 and it's still impressive in 2025

I still remember that E3 conference. It was just the first 7 minutes of this video...and if that wasn't enough they gave us this extended version of it that same day.

This was the E3 that gave us The Last Guardian / Shenmue 3 / FFVII Remake announcement...but from a gameplay perspective this was the moment that everyone was talking about.

10 years later to me this is still impressive. From a graphic perspective many studios still can't give us that Naughty Dog attention to detail we see here...and this was a year before the game even released. All the multiple stages of that chase, the way Nate interacts with the crowds, the writing was...better than whatever is being written by most studios currently, etc.

I remember getting at the end of these 14 minutes and just sitting there thinking about what i had just witnessed lol.

Anyway...how did this happen? A decade since this? Really?

Had a lot of fun with the game, specially after the first few movie hours. That said, I wish they've never showed this scene during the game's marketing because imo they spoiled the coolest part of the game. But yeah many games do the same, at least they didn't spoil near as much as Kojima with MGS V, dude showed the whole damn game in the trailers.

Not as good as uncharted 3 plane sequence 🤷‍♂️
Not as good as Uncharted 2 train sequence. :goog_relieved:

Damn, it's already been 10 years? Fuck, we're all so old.

I haven't played U4 since release. I really should give it another playthrough. Though it seems like the type of game I'd love to play on a Sony handheld…

This game was boring as a slog though. The first one was miles way more fun. I almost didn't finish 4, never touched again after I finish it.

Agreed. I replayed each game in the original trilogy multiple times but could barely finish 4 once. Hated everything about the story and characters minus Rafe whom I thought was one of the series best characters.

That was one of the really rare action scene of the game.
I've got much more fun in the DLC than the main game.
Uncharted 2 is still the best Uncharted.

I played the game without ever watching this. I later learned that they gave away the best part of the game to people in this preview. I'm still surprised how much dead air there is.

And I think Drake was clearly supposed to fight his brother as the last boss, but they chickened out and replaced him with some other guy who ended up being barely in the game.

Sadly it's the only really good set piece in the game. But yeah it's really cool and still holds up incredibly well.

We have only seen a short trailer. A basic premise, the actors doing he voice over are great. I expect great things from naughty dog.
I am really looking forward to his game and the other one being cooked at the same time.

People nowadays are so sensitive that are easily offended.

uncharted 3 has good sequences. but they are all connected together sloppily. still good game.
but, naughty dog should just embrace that, making great high quality gameplay segments and not care too much about story .

God too bad that entire game SUCKED.

Anyway, Uncharted 2s 2009 E3 showing was so damn impressive I switched from Xbox to PlayStation

I remember being so hyped after that video. I kept saying to my mate that if that's the bit they showed at e3 then they must have something even better because there's no way they would show the best bit in a preview

I was wrong 😔

That was the last time I ever got unconditionally hyped for a game

Glad Uncharted doesn't exist anymore. Hate it as much as the Horizon ip.

The only UC game that impressed me was the first i played, which was UC2. Then played UC1, and completely lost interest by the time the third was released.

Lol man you hate on anything that's not an oversaturated skybox using 2008 tech from fromshit huh?

This is a great set piece — a true benchmark of intense cinema in games, a real spectacle.
There are a lot of cool sequences in Uncharted 4, but somehow, when you consider everything together, the game as a whole isn't as good as Uncharted 2.

ER oversaturated? Damn bruh, it's time you adjust your monitor. People call it washed out af, not oversaturated.

And what i hate is mediocre slop. Linear, climb simulating cover shooter is not a good game. Especially after games made by the same dev that are so far ahead in the gameplay department. TLOU2 eats anything UC for breakfast when it comes to gameplay.

"Best gameplay segments ever in a trailer at E3"? Nah - it's not even the best gameplay segment in a trailer at E3 for this series. Are the visuals impressive? Sure - but given how little game there actually is, they'd damn well wanna be. Uncharted 4 was a dour chore that I was glad to be done with, frankly. Unfortunately for Naughty Dog, they elected to show off the game's one big set piece in the trailer, leaving the game with nothing but pre-baked GI and a limp story to carry players through its convoluted structure and horrendous pacing.

There's nothing to crow about here; Uncharted 4 ended the series on a low note.

I only played and kinda hated the first two, always wanted to give 4 a try to see if maybe the level design and gameplay improved. 3 just looked like more of the same so I didn't bother.

That's what Naughty Dog does.

- Uncharted 4 gameplay footage > Mind-blowing and people think it's fake.
- TLOU 2 gameplay footage > Mind-blowing and people think it's fake.

I'm sure Intergalactic's gameplay reveal will make us feel like that again as well.

My favourite Uncharted is still the first. Just loved that location and sense of adventure out of the others even if they had insane set pieces.

1 was super comfy and charming.

Word.

The Last of Us Part 2 blew me the fuck away, I couldnt believe that was real and running on a damn PS4.

Uncharted 4s chase was also insane, but somehow feasable in my eyes because it seemed super scripted, the fact the final one ended looking just as good if not better was some other shit.

I eagerly await what they show off for Intergalactic gameplay sequence.

Wanna bet we get a bunch of copy retro-future games in the coming years?

the multiplayer side content like the PvP for the UC games were actually pretty fleshed out. Miss when games just had a for fun mode without charging extra

Great game..specially the MP... unfortunately it was the beginning of Cuckman jerking of to his "strong woman" fetish witch crippled the somewhat interesting story finale.
