I have been having a hell of a time with my BenQ XL2420T since I got an SSD and tried a new windows install. On my fresh install trying to set 120hz sends the monitor to a black no signal screen that will not reset itself on timeout, second monitor is there but no mouse cursor. Swap my drives back around to my original setup and 120hz 1080p lightboost is working fine.
I have tried getting the inf file from windows update, the install disc, and some futzed around one from a forum all with the same results. I have disabled lightboost while on the "good" OS, reset the monitor, rebooted, and still had the problem.
Does anyone have any idea about setting up this monitor on a fresh windows install? Its just not working for me.
Thanks for the advice, I gave it a shot but do not have luck yet.Simplify your configuration. Only connect the XL2420T and make sure to use Dual-Link DVI or DisplayPort only. This just sounds like the timings for the mode you're trying to set are not appropriate for the display. Any inf files you might be using could be confusing the issue, as they're not needed at all. The capabilities of the display will be known through EDID communication between the GPU and the display.
I advise you to use the same GPU driver version as your working install. If you have a NVIDIA GPU, you could use NVCP to set a custom resolution like 1920x1079 @ 120 Hz and see if it's able to display it. I'm not sure of how to accomplish this if you have an AMD GPU I'm afraid.

Fresh install of windows 7 done with only the XL2420T plugged in by dual link dvi. Installed current non beta nvidia drivers and I can go up to 1920x1080@100hz.
Setting the screen to 120hz even at custom resolution as 1079 goes black screen for quite awhile. I am back to an active screen after a driver crash though(took a few minutes of black screen cycling no signal and red power lights)
Windows resolution tool shows "Generic PNP monitor" and won't let me hide modes that it cannot display.
Depends on the monitor in question. My VG248QE doesn't support 144 Hz with lightboost through the ToastyX tool. This is really kind of a dumb question with no real good answer, but anyone run their 144Hz monitor at 120Hz all the time? Thinking about just setting mine to that for no since some of the games I play drop to around 120 FPS enough that it hurts the overall smoothness a bit. If I change it, do i need to adjust the picture settings or lightboost settings or anything?

Jesus yea. That looks awful and is more than just a minor flaw.2. It also has a blue line in darker scenes.
Reason to return it?

Though I'm having a tough time believing that a drop to 8.3ms frametimes is noticeable
Are you sure that you're running Titanfall at 120 fps? Last I knew it was still locked unless you run it with vsync, which of course fucks up the input something fierce.Hah, it honestly might just be in my head, I really don't know. But I've been getting into BF4 a lot lately and its pretty much permanently in the 120's, and Titanfall drops down a lot on some maps, so I figured I should just drop it 120.
I have the BenQ XL2411Z, which AFAIK supports strobing down to 60Hz (I can notice the slight flickering in some games which are locked to 60Hz, like Super Mat Boy).

That's probably why it feels like crap then. It's not an issue with framerate drop, it's an issue with stupid high input lag.According to MSI Afterburner I am. But beyond that, I really don't know hahah. It "feels" like its smoother than 60FPS but maybe its just placebo and I'm crazy? I'm pretty sure I have VSYNC on, though.

1. Your 760 is plenty capable of running most games over 60 fps. Otherwise, the only thing it would help with is reducing the visibility of tearing.Hey guys, I have two questions:
1. What's the benefit of a 120hz / 144hz monitor if I don't have a GPU capable of running games consistently over 60fps?
I've also never been that sensitive to frame-rates or motion blur, electing to play non-twitch games (Skyrim, for example) at 30fps with v-sync.
Even twitch games I've never had any issues at 60 with v sync. I guess v-sync introduces lag but I've never noticed it.
2. What's the best 120 / 144 monitor under $300? I notice the OP hasn't been updated since November.
Thanks! I made this thread about other possible monitors if you want to weigh in.
Might be a better place to ask then i need a new pc thread.
I need some help with picking out a new monitor.
I'm moving and leaving behind my 55" tv on which I had PC connected, but will bring my old 24" benq monitor which feels so small now but I'll get used to smaller screen, what always bothered me was the colors didn't look vibrant at all so I'm gonna just use it as 2nd monitor.
I was thinking about buying some TV but after researching decided on monitor. What I know is I want at least 24" but would prefer 27", not sure about 1440p, I think I want 120hz and IPS panel. I really want good looking colors, tired of washed out look on my monitor and using this new tv for past few months have been refreshing, but then again I barely gamed on it mostly movies and tv shows but huge difference there. 3D wouldn't hurt either but not required I guess, just got used to downloading anything 3D ever since I've got 3d capable tv last year.
Besides regular PC use and gaming on PC I also plan on using the monitor for ps3/360 and PS4 once I buy it next year, and of course to watch movies/tv shows which I probably do more than gaming at this point, but that might change.
So what are your recommendations? Price range, not sure, cheaper the better but wouldn't sacrifice quality for bit less $.
P.S. Korean monitors are interesting been reading a bit about it but not sure if I could use them for consoles :\
The best you can do with those priorities is Eizo FG2421. 120hz w/low persistence, VA panel for much better blacks/contrast than IPS which is pretty important for movies and dark games. Equivalent viewing angles. 24", no 3D. Pricy but worth it.I was thinking about buying some TV but after researching decided on monitor. So?? Update us, dudeDirect EIZO French Store
Here you go! They have a few in stock and I might pick one up, just noticed they don't deliver out of France for now unless a rep can get back to me after the weekend.

You're right, I just read a bit about consoles and them and I see most can't do it properly or at all, well fuck. Your recommendation is what I'm mostly thinking about now but would need to research a bit and could use some recommendations, and the price of that ips would be a big factor.Well you're going to need HDMI for console usage so that rules out using one of those Korean b-stock PLS exclusively, although they are very nice for PC usage. I would suggest to you as well that 1080p looks worse on 27" monitors, you end up paying around a one hundred dollar premium for a lower pixel density and more apparent color banding. Ultimately you can just move your display further or closer away from your face with a desktop monitor anyway, so I think the extra 3" of diagonal length isn't worth it. A lot of folks here seem to fancy 3d-capable TN panels because of lightboost, but depending upon the games you play the strobing may cause too much input lag to be useful. I'd recommend a 1080p 24" IPS for console usage and one of the ~$300 B-grade Samsung PLS panels for PC gaming. 1440p and 96hz is more enjoyable than 1080p 144hz, in my opinion.

Yes, I don't think it's argued much.So is the general consensus 120 light boost > 144?

Primary is a VG248QE with AG film removed, and G-Sync DIY kit. Secondary is a BenQ XL2420T, and before that, a Samsung S23A750D.mkenyon - What monitor do you use?
I know alot of people sing the benifits of 144hz for fast paced shooters and competive games, but what about slower/single player games? I'm thinking of upcoming games like Shadows of Mordor,Borderlands Pre Sequel and Witcher 3,etc. Do games like that greatly benefit from the higher refresh vs larger higher res screens?
I use a BenQ XL2420T and every game looks better at 144hz than 60hz
Even your desktop, lol.
The only commercially available G-Sync monitors are the RoG Swift and AoC 24".Any 27" lightboost you guys word recommend? Also how card would it be to find one with gsync? I hear there aren't many gsync monitors out there.
Hows about http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009657 ? Bit high in price though.
I seem to be leaning towards BenQ XL2720T.
